Harbaugh seems like a "the grass is greener" situation. Since they won the Super Bowl 10 years ago, he's missed the playoffs 5 times, won 2 playoff games, and the most damning stat of all ( :sarcasm: ) has had 2(!) losing seasons.

You can blame it on Jackson if you want, but the fact of the matter is that Jackson is good to enough to win league MVP and for the team to give him $260M. We would not be giving Tomlin that out, nor should they. But you gotta be consistent. If Tomlin deserves criticism, so does Harbaugh. It's really splitting hairs to say Tomlin is this big fraud who needs to be fired but that Harbaugh is some great mastermind coach. They are a lot more similar than they are different.

Probably a fair point.

But not getting a FG at the end of the half was a monumentally dumb move.

13 points in 1 half is usually enough for the other team against Pitt. It'd be different if you were going up against Mahommes and you want to maximize points and every drive

Just absolutely idiotic
It was more a comment on the Steelers and the complete disrespect for their offense that the Ravens, and the entire league, had for them than any reflection on their HC.

Simply put, the Raven didn't think that chancing points on the board had much of a cost. As 999 times out of 1000 it wouldn't.

Yea I wouldn't say Harbaugh is above Tomlin or vice versa
They are both in the same tier of mediocrity

Yea I think Harbaugh thought he'd be able to ice the game in 1 half with a TD there

The Ravens contended after the game they never planned to snap it on 4th down and they only did because they thought the Steelers had jumped offside. I get that, but it's still waaaaay overthinking it, as it's not like they were inside the 5 or something - even with a 1st down a TD is unlikely there given the time they had left.

Yea it was a bizzare decision making tree.
Even if they convert the 2 yards , there's no promise you're making it into the EZ with the limited time

Harbaugh really isn't a neanderthal. He's actually one of the more modern thinkers when it comes to analytics, going for 4th downs, and schematics. I just think when you have a QB like Lamar you're kind of limited, and this was actually a game where being more old school would have done Harbaugh some good.
I think Harbaugh has a good football mind, and I also think he's a good evaluator of talent, but I think he has been generally underwhelming as a coach and they have had some absolutely stacked teams. I throw him and Tomlin in the same bucket.

Didn't the announcers this weekend say that Tomlin said "It's hard for rookies to get playing time on good teams"?

That would explain it. Tommy's just working backwards. We're a good team, therefore rookies don't play.

1. JPJ excels in man press. Steelers don't run a ton of this and that can explain his limited snap counts
2. Tomlin got caught up in his BS speak. This was a terrible spin. He should have referenced my point above and let it ride.

Tomlin's cliches do him more harm than good in this instance.
Wallace and Patt are getting shredded. What is the harm in getting a rookie some snaps in zone? Or maybe you let him do the Ike Taylor thing and shadow a guy?

Some weird rumors on the winning TD throw:

- KP called an audible
- KP didn’t call an audible!
- Canada was mad KP called an audible and they scored!
- Tomlin said going for a TD there wasn’t their intention (this I believe).

I love the smell of mutiny in the morning

Rookie Roethlisberger was considered the 3rd best QB in his draft class. As was Mahomes. Lamar Jackson was the 5th QB in his.

most had Ben ranked better than Rivers

I still can't believe they had an illegal formation on the kneel down play

F Canada!

The biggest difference is the Ravens spend big bucks on their assistant coaches, scouts, staff whereas the Steelers go cheap

Yea if I remember correctly, the giants took Rivers because that’s who the chargers would trade for, but most teams had Ben number two behind Eli.

Anyone who pays attention to this franchise could see this sort of win coming, as this is the exact situation that is where Tomlin's teams thrive. That said, had Baltimore not dropped 19 passes and turned it over 12 times they get blown out of the building for the 3rd time in 5 games, and you're correct that pulling that out will allow them to spend 2 weeks convincing themselves that all they need is a little more time and to get Johnson and Friermuth healthy and they'll be fine.

And really, rookie rookie whatever, the fact Porter hasn't been playing more all along is malpractice.

It seemed like a game the Steelers would somehow pull out in a stupid way and they did.

But I couldn’t shake the feeling the Ravens were going to blow them out.

Which would have happened if Ravens receivers had any type of decent hands.

So things can only go down the shitter for him?

The report for a week or so was they didn’t like Jpj inability to tackle they want to play m2m but Wallace is to slow to play that he will get cooked. They want to move Peterson to safety and were hoping to get to the bye before JPJ and Jones started

If true then your reasoning sounds even worse!

So we're not playing a CB because he "can't tackle"? We value tackling CB's in today's NFL over coverage skills?

This is why I say MT is a Neanderthal and is not in line with current trends.
If this were hockey, Tomlin would employ 6 Charas on defense and ice 12 Matt Cookes as forwards.

It's beyond ass backwards.

Yes, keep playing him sporadically Tomlin. Smartest coaching staff in the league.

That Sam guy blocked me. He didn't like it when I brought up facts that TJ Watt is better than Myles Garrett.

I do think the CB's poor tackling has factored into the run D thus far this year. Hardly the biggest reason, but it hasn't helped - and that's all the more reason why not playing Porter for that reason is dumb. It's not like Wallace or Petersen are Jalen Ramsey in run support. It's all stubbornness and deference to veterans.

Apparently KP didn’t audible now and just changed the protection because:

On the winning touchdown to Pickens, Pickett did not change the play call because he doesn’t have the freedom to audible in Matt Canada’s system

But Tomlin said scoring a TD “was not their intention on the play” in his postgame word salad.

I mean there perfect ideal cb is Ike and he loved getting his nose in the running game. Unless you are Sanders you have to tackle as a DB

Well it was obvious they wanted to get the 1st down and then force the ravens to burn all timeouts and kick the fg with no time left on the clock
I don’t think they wanted to score a td
