There can’t be any other team who more often has the “if they win and 3 of 4 of these other teams lose they’ll make the playoffs” scenarios than the Steelers. The Mike Tomlin era baby.
Colts have an easy game next week and then play Houston to end the season…even if the Steelers win the next two games, if the Jags and Colts win out, no playoffs…but don’t worry about those scenarios, the Steelers will lose next week lol

You could argue that Pickett was rushed. If Mitch Trubisky just plays adequate last year Kenny likely sits the year learning the position. Yes this team hasn’t shown much in how to develop a QB, but maybe starting this season as his first year would of been better for him.

Next season should be the deciding season. If people are still making excuses for his play then they are living in a world of denial.

Lawrence is hurt again Carolina played Greenbay tough they could easily get a win. Vegas is on par with Atlanta and Atlanta just beat Indy plus theres the back door if Buffalo loses a game New England and @ Miami
The least likely is Cleveland losing out jets and bengals

I definitely don't think he started on the schedule the Steelers were imagining and maybe being able to follow the schedule makes a difference. Maybe the pro improvements to his fundamentals are a little more engrained and don't come undone under pressure in the same way.

But maybe not.

I think the biggest difference would be public perception.

It wasn't your imagination.

The Steelers for the first time in forever opened the offense and that was what made all the difference.

There are no easy games in the NFL. Chiefs just lost to the Raiders with the Raiders QB not completing a pass after the 1st quarter. He had like 9 total completions.

Love how Ravens fans complain about Harbaugh but look at his team. Way better coach than Tomlin. Best team in the NFL.

To have a WR that talented and him running 5 yard routes is a travesty. I actually do give Pickens more grace than I normally would because he has been so unbelievably misutilized it's not even funny.

To be fair, that is just his targeted routes. I’m sure he’s been running deep several times a game, not just this last one. Which to me says more about the QB actually throwing it to him on those routes than anything else.

It’s still a reason to be pissed. Only getting targeted if you’re running 5 yards from the LOS.

Agreed.

In the end it is on the player to, if not act like a very well paid professional, at least not be a complete ass.

However, to not acknowledge that he and the rest of the team were provoked into reacting is to ignore reality. The entire team, especially the offense, likely felt the same. They just hid it better.

He needs to act more mature. He needs to act differently when faced with adversity. Some players are born with that ability, and some aren't - he is not, but it can be coached. I also think he is a guy who realizes he can be part of the solution, but to do that, there needs to be someone get him the ball. This is where a guy like Hines Ward would be valuable to show that even when you aren't catching balls you can still be a bully and impact the game.

Pickens acting the way he is to me is 180 degrees different than how AB acted when he was here where he was getting every single ball and new contract after new contract, yet he was still acting like a dick.

With all of this being said, not blocking for Warren was inexcusable and THAT is a character flaw that I wouldn't want on my team. Period.

Pickens just got big featured a week after actions that had tons of people shouting for his benching. Kind of undermines the idea he needs to act different when faced with adversity. It worked just fine for him.

Might be consequences for that down the line.

He needs to act differently. His ability/performance have nothing to do with that. Hopefully there has been something put in place with him regarding his behavior.

As I have said before though, him not blocking for Warren and then trying to validate why he didn't block is egregious to me. I wouldn't want him on my team regardless of how talented he was. As a team they are all pushing the same boulder, and that dude just took his hands off and said, "f*** you all."

I still trade Pickens if I get a 1st in exchange.

Same. And I think they easily get it.

Don’t create needs. Pickens is a reflection of what the coaching staff enables. You wonder why so many WRs here end up acting out, it’s because the coaching environment allows for it.

I'd probably do a 1st for Pickens, but I don't see why anyone would. 1st for a WR is Hill/Adams/Brown territory. Pickens is not as good and he's a far bigger headache.

As far as I'm concerned, George Pickens doesn't need to do anything that's not good for George Pickens. It's the same for everyone in life. People need to do what helps them, and everything else is what people want them to do.

We want Pickens to behave, but Pickens doesn't need to. Not unless someone else imposes that need.

The AJ Brown trade is the closest comp I see to Pickens from an age/production standpoint. Brown was looking for a new contract, so it isn’t apples to apples.

Anything short of a 2nd round pick doesn’t really make sense for us imo.

I think Pickens will request a trade this offseason. I doubt the Steelers would willingly move on from him.
