Rudolph seems like an ideal QB for Pickens the way he likes to bomb it out. Sort of reminds of the Culpeper to Moss connection back in the day. Culpeper was not a great QB but he was a great QB for Moss. Potentially the same thing here with Rudolph and Pickens.
Would be great if they tried some fly/post routes with CA3 as well. Keep the deep threat ominous all game and profit from the newly available rushing space.

I don't know if it was an outlier, honestly. I think he's just comfortable and developed as a QB. How good of a QB, we will see. Mason and Kenny coming out of college were similar. It's probably going to take Kenny as long as Mason to develop.

Mason yesterday just looked totally comfortable to me. Honestly haven't seen a QB that comfortable and confident since Ben threw his last game. This may be a blessing in disguise. Sitting Kenny for Rudolph I don't think hurts Kenny in any way.

Million dollar question.

That is the thing that makes evaluating Pickett so difficult. We don't know for sure. However, I highly suspect that it has been Tomlin. Also it is Tomlin who grew desperate enough to unshackle the offense.
or rudy didn't listen.

getting that early td pass will do that.

He's not going to throw for 290 yards every game. It was an absolute outlier.

The question is "by how much" and "why".

I think there's a real compelling argument that Cincinnati without Burrow is just a very good match up for us and that's why our offence managed to carve them up twice. How good those QBs would be against a non-gimme...

He threw for 277 in his last start and dealt with drops and fumbles

His last start was the Detroit game that went for 10 minutes of overtime and where he had 50 attempts. That's also an outlier and also not a throwing performance to be proud of. (Also PFR says he threw for 242 yards fwiw).

If Mason learned anything from Ben it was how to run the offense in spite of Tomlin.

Mason would have had a better career if he was drafted anywhere else. Edit: same with Pickett.

It's amazing to me how high a mountain some people will climb to defend someone as mediocre as Kenny Pickett.

It's amazing to me how high a mountain some people will climb to defend someone as mediocre as Mike Tomlin. The guy who is supposed help develop a young Qb.

18 years of mediocre Mike.

Pickett is what? Year 2 and a reflection of the coaching staff. Starting with Tomlin

People are making a lot out of one game

All forgiven

Wonder how he fares on the road in a hostile environment.

He's like Lil Pete from ridiculous 6, he'll be fine.

Pickett is a 4th round talent who lit up the ACC as a 23 year old with Jordan Addison as the main star.

I feel badly that I got suckered by it, but everything he has done has shown that 2021 was a fluke in a historically bad QB class. Your whataboutism with Tomlin is hilarious though. I despise Tomlin.

Maybe so. I mean, I hope Pickett makes it in this league, seems like a nice kid. It probably won't be in Pittsburgh for sure. Neither will another young QB in Pittsburgh as long as Rooney II and Clown are here, That's for dam sure.

You despise Clown but what? I think you were studdering or something.

It is possible to not like Tomlin as a coach but also think Pickett is not likely a good QB in the NFL based on what he showed in all seasons except 2021. In fact, it is easy. No "but" needed.

I think this applies to any young QB coming in day 1.

If the staff isn't good, it'll take them a real long time to develop.
