Agreed. I meant that the passing game coordinator or whatever they are doing for their current team will just be promoted to OC within their team if that teams OC was hired away as head coach or take a job as an OC with their buddy who left to be a new head coach.

The Steelers OC position has to be at the bottom of the league. When you combine the meddling of Tomlin and the crap set of QBs, crap O-line, arrogant mediocre Wide Receivers. It's just a shitshow.

Klint Kubiak type guys will stay put or go to some other team where they can have a far higher chance of success.

9ers don’t have an OC position because it’s really Shanahan, so why pretend?

Obviously he’s not leaving to coach anywhere being a HC already which makes Kubiak a guy I think is ripe for plucking.

Kubiak would get far more visibility as Steelers OC and could parlay that into a HC position.

Now you could make the argument other teams OC jobs would be attractive with a more promising QB, less meddling HC. Etc

Either way though, there are several up and coming passing game coordinators and Steelers could surely land one of them - Kubiak is just an example of a guy I like who can’t really move up in his current org.

George Pickens on why he didn’t block for Warren: “I was just trying to prevent the Tank Dell situation, the same thing that happened to (him). I ain't want to get an injury. When you stay on the block too low, you can get ran up on very easily.”

I dunno. You're not wrong it's an unattractive position. We've seen highly touted minds walk into some pretty nasty situations to get a promotion though. There's not enough great situations out there for impatient coaches. A lot depends on how the guys perceive the tape, how much was Canada and how much was the player, what his potential bosses are saying. Is Tomlin going to be offering free reign to be aggressive so the guy can save his job? Or more conservatism? Is Tomlin getting extended, is he a lame duck, what?

I think if the Steelers made a play that the incoming guy will get stability and a strong chance to do things his own way, they could get someone optimistic feeling.

But how do you persuade someone there's absolutely no way he won't lose his job because Tomlin walks in a year and the new guy wants his own OC?

The Steelers should really fire their PR rep because that is where it came from. Don't believe that at all

In other words, I'm playing for myself.

Get rid of him and DJ.

Who on this team besides TJ and a few others are actually playing a team concept... literally on any given play 2/3s of the team does not block correctly, run routes, throw, defend, catch...

I'd bet lots of money that all of this attitude goes away when/if we get new coaches.

Pickens literally came from Georgia and now has sub-par everything...

...so he basically said there are only certain parts of playing football that I'll do, cause I'm taking the me outta team, any organization with guts would tell him, that's no problem George we want you to take the rest of the season off to protect yourself physically, and we'll make sure you won't have to worry about that going to forward with this organization.

While I agree, I also think that new coaches and the front office would need to make examples of a few players to make it clear this is a new dawn. Remove the guys who've really got on their fellow players' nerves.

And Pickens is jumping up and down going "Me! Me!" with his comments. Which honestly might be intentional.

Once more.

The offense is what it is because that is what Tomlin wants. The last two OC's were not mistakes or flawed but a part of Tomlin's system. Few mistakes to support the defense and hope for a break to win a close game.

The next OC will be a clone of Canada.

They will win the next 2. They will be picking somewhere in the 20's. Tomlin will get a 5 year contract for the biggest money ever. Byron Leftwich is going to be the OC. Absolutely nothing else changes. Buckle up boys.
This is the likeliest reality and with that pick they will over value a guy they could have gotten in the 3rd round while the pick immediately after them becomes an annual pro bowler.

If you go back earlier in the conversation, I already mentioned this reality… AR2 hiring an OC is about the best outcome we can hope for in bizarro Steeler land.

Ie Tomlin isn’t going anywhere and will get an extension because results don’t matter to AR2.

I never said getting an OC outside Tomlin’s crony island would work and even admitted we would try to fool ourselves into hoping it would.

The stuff with Kubiak was in response to the reality that no top OC would make a lateral move to come coach with a train wreck like Tomlin.

So they would have to find a good young passing game coordinator.

I already admitted a guy like Kubiak might not come to Pgh because Tomlin meddles.

Weird Steelers thought this morning - would have been interesting to see how Dwayne Haskins would have done here. He was more talented than any QB we have currently on the roster.

What’s strange is I was actually thinking about that guy earlier this week. Not necessarily how he’d be playing, but just how tragic that situation was.

I think they would’ve taken a QB in the 2023 draft no matter what, but there’s an outside chance they may have stuck with the Mitch/Haskins tandem.

Probably badly. He was not good.
