So apparently every second round pick we’ve made recently we’ve had a position coach at the player’s pro day…so what Steelers position coaches were at pro days? Anyone know

Detroit has a ton of draft capital left too.... How would 48 and 55 for 32 sound? Thats like a 30% premium per the ole Jimmy Johnson chart
normally that would be great but this is not normal times. that is too big of a drop to take a chance on a player that i want will still be there. imo
edit; but that's just me

I would only be willing to trade down a maximum of 5 spots from 32 and I’d demand a 3rd to do it. Which no team would want to do unless they’re super sold that Levis is good and he won’t make it to like 37.

Although I will admit I wasn’t aware how few day 3 the Steelers have, so maybe having 4 day 2 picks and only 2 7ths beyond it isn’t the best tactic.
Id be a bit more flexible. Drop 4-5 spots and give me 120 or better.

What I’d like to do is swap 32 for the Bears 53 2nd round pick and their first round pick in 2024…that would be hilarious…then we could have recouped a second and a first round pick for Claypool
Lol. I'd even throw in next year's 2nd or 3rd to make that happen. A shot at Marvin TD Machine Jr.? Hell yeah.

I think Tomlin just sends in the clowns. Or maybe in his words unleashes them.

i think someone posted that awhile back but i'm too lazy to look it up.

I'm pretty sure all GMs understand the game. I seriously doubt they'd "remember" this for future blackballing.

It's an easy conversation from Khan. We love the players available at 32. If you want us to trade out it'll be uncomfortable.

Nothing every other team hasn't done when they have this spot.

That was hyperbole. But you've only got to listen to Sirianni's interview on Kelce's podcast - or Rutherford - to know that good relationships and not going mad is a thing. It does matter.

There's a difference between starting negotiations with a tough ask and starting with then sticking to historic overadds. It cost Baltimore a 2nd the following year to move up 20 spots for Jackson. 33 to 27 cost a 4th and a 6th last year. You can get 2 2nds for an early 2nd but those 2nds are coming in the 50s.

Maybe the situation lets you get a little extra. Might as well see if the bidding war goes there. But this make history or nothing stance... just say you don't want to trade down and have done with it.

We really only had our OL coach out there visiting. Here is the breakdown I have, which could be wrong...

JPJ, Darius Rush, and Clayton Tune are the only three guys we met with at the Combine and brought them in for a visit. We just met with Branch at the combine. Didn't go to his pro day, and didn't invite him in for a visit.

Guys who came in for a visit with 2-3 round grades on them

O'Cyrus Torrence, JM Schmitz, Darnell Washington, Tyrique Stevenson, Cody Mauch, Keeanu Benton
Tuli Tiuipultou, Keion White, Jonathan Mingo, Steve Avila, Cedric Tillman.

They were at Branch's pro day - GM, HC, and one of DC or DBs coach, I forget which. First two could be coincidental because it was Alabama's pro day, but the defence coach feels pretty relevant.

Kaboly's prediction, fwiw, Steelers won't get enough to move 32, and will take JPJ.
Which would be the preference of most here. Maybe most would prefer Branch but most also would be fine with that scenario.

Corners do have more value than safety so I get why they may go that route.

I am actually torn between one of the defensive backs and Meyer.

There are three corners who are all bunched around where the Steelers second round pick will be. One should be there.

Jones, Mayer and one of those corners would upgrade the team in so many ways.

And coupling Mayer with Pat Freiermuth along with Pickens, Johnson etc. would create nightmares.

If I'm willing to move at all, I'm willing to do that.

I wouldn't expect a ton more because that's a handsome payment and it's not like we're the only team that can sell. If I was the Titans and I'm hearing "2 2nds and your firstborn" I'm just ringing Arizona. We don't have as much leverage as some seem to think.

Also on a soft power note I'd rather not have the brand new GM struck out of guys' contact lists for demanding the earth. The team can still do well without going mad.

The extra 3rd is nice but it honestly depends on whether you can still get a good CB option at 41. I would expect both Branch and Porter Jr to be gone at that point, and getting the extra mid 3rd isn't worth losing out on those two.

I'd rather do 32 to LA for 36 and 77, with the Steelers probably adding another pick (maybe a 2024 pick?) to close the deal.

He's not the next Gronk. Darnell Washington, however, is the same size as Gronk.

Mayer has baby arms for his size.

Porter and Branch will be gone.

But the drop off is not that great to the next tier. Make it four defensive backs, at least one of who should be there for the Steelers' second round pick.

I wasn't endorsing the hyperbole of the title of the video. Just put it up as a highlights video. If he were the next Gronk he would have been a top five pick.

i prefer branch, but from most mocks they have jpj much higher then i found this Player Rankings - 2023 NFL Mock Drafts | Lines.com
and they have ranked branch at 13 and jpj at 22
so there is a chance.

To be honest, I think Freiermuth would have been the best TE in this draft by a decent margin. He really is like Gronk. I am personally fine with Gentry for how infrequently we have put the 2nd TE in any position to produce...ever.

I'm still curious to see who would trade up to get Levis. Looking around at who teams already have at QB, there really aren't a ton of options out there. I think a team that makes sense is the Lions, who can just sit at 34 and wait for Levis to fall to them. But would they take Levis after the season Goff just had? I'm skeptical.

I think that is probably what will end up happening, but I don't quite understand why the Lions wouldn't just re-sign Goff. He's still a young QB, he's only 28. Why this matters in here is that any team trading up to the Steelers pick would likely be doing it for Levis, specifically to jump the Lions.

It's what is going to happen. I'm in the Branch club, but I get why they would want a corner instead of a slot/safety.

The kind of choice where you cannot really argue with them either way. Like choosing between which super model to date.

Or as I said Mayer, or Torrence even, would be fine.

Nice place to be.

Yeah, I forgot the Steelers were to dumb, stubborn, or both to fire Canada. So there is that.

That's more my speed if they do it.

I don't care about Porter if we get a guy. Bunch of guys I like at CB. Branch... I dunno. Torn. Think he could be a big deal. Think he could be just a good guy at a non-major position.

I like the possibilities in the 3rd too. Nice deep draft.

the lions mite think that another team wants to jump them, so they need to move up to prevent it. imo

If you lock down your secondary by drafting Brian Branch or Joey Porter jr, then you have secured the two areas most needed by this team. And then with 49 depending on who's there maybe you move down a little and pick up a fourth rounder at that point. But I wouldn't mess with 32 unless we get a crazy offer. We're essentially drafting a late first. I seriously that will be in this position again anytime soon.

Poni saying, from a trusted source, Vegas has offered 38 and 100 for 32, and Steelers are mulling it over.
No way, not worth it.
