Just realized the Steelers lost their top picks from 18,19, 20 from Oct-March with Claypool, Bush and Edmunds all being ghosted by the org.

At least they recovered a first for Claypool so they can start over, but if you look at their top picks the last several yrs (too early for KP and Harris), it’s uglier than I thought.

Going back to Burns draft year, only Watt has been an impact player from that important 5 year span (2016-20).

it really does stress the point that Kahn has to nail this draft.

Hmm, afraid not. Apparently stating the obvious is now both controversial and pearl clutching to the peanut gallery
Except youve havent stated anything obvious other than Austin is small, which is completely meaningless.

Then you ise that size as a fait acompli that he will be injured/have a short useless career. Because your chicken little.

See its really simple he either will have a short career marred by injury (most do) or he wont. His size while a factor is far from an automatic disqualifier as has been pointed out with many examples that you choose to ignore.

So chicken shit or chicken little, take your pick.

Austin might get broken in half if he's played as a returner. Or just have him fair catch 95% of the time.
Maybe, or maybe he becomes a FREAK Sensation. It's always a risk drafting undersized players for the NFL. But it's medium risk/ HIGH REWARD scenario for a 4th round selection. Austin has the speed and elusiveness to become a huge impact big play guy. The only question is, can he protect himself on the field??? Don't know, never saw him for one down last year.

But reports from camp was that he was burning everyone in sight before his unlucky foot injury. I'm excited about the possibilities, but it's all a guess until we see him in games.

Big fan of Colbert in the 2000's. With Khan and seeing all of our top picks being allowed to walk, it is becoming very evident Colbert's used by date was up. Hilarious story, I live in the North Hills and I was about 5 mins from my house and a dude was getting his mail that looked JUST LIKE Colbert. Went home, looked up the owner of the house, and it was Colbert. He built a massive new house in North Park.

It's not hard to find lighter WRs lasting a long time. 2 of the current top 25 active receiving yards leaders were 175 lbs or lighter.

If we phrase it as lbs per inch, talking in terms of how much padding his bones have, Austin's sturdier than Antonio Brown and Tyreek Hill (and a good few others).

Although, really, who cares if he's not going to have a long career? He's got three years left on his rookie contract. The odds of him being a Steeler a long time after that are real low. The only way it matters is if he's like Tyreek Hill mk2, and if you get Tyreek Hill mk2 off of a 4th rounder that's a win even if he flames out after a year or two.

Now you’re just spouting nonsense. Brown had almost no injury issues and was 5’10” 185. Tyreek Hill is 5’10” 190 lbs. How the hell is Austin sturdier at 5’7” 165?

My god lol I’m sorry to hurt your fragile ego dude but I’ve stated the complete obvious which is entirely relevant to his prospective career length. If you cannot understand that there is little I can do for you.

I'm not saying he can't be effective, I just have my doubts he can do it for more than a 2-3 seasons before he starts to break down without preventative measures. I don't think he can be on the field all the time and he needs to be avoidant of hits as much as he can (hence my earlier reference to the Edelman dive).

People can play make-believe in their minds about his size not mattering but that's all it is. If guys that size were able to hold up in the NFL we'd see a lot more of them drafted.

Could he be that 1 in a billion exception? Sure. Is it likely? Obviously not.

Austin is 170lbs according to the NFL. Info I dragged that from has Brown at 181lbs and Hill at 185lbs. Almost like recorded weights are a bit meaningless.

Which anyway admittedly means I still goofed with the numbers now I double check... but by a tiny amount. Still pretty much the same height to weight ratio as Brown there. Off by .1. Identical to DeSean Jackson. A tiny amount less than Emmanuel Sanders.

If those guys could have long careers, so could Austin. It's clearly low end but this 1 in a billion stuff is, well, nonsense.

But enjoy your own personal reality.

ETA: Obviously there's a ton of other reasons why teams don't draft small WRs other than durability and the biggest threat to what's about the most injury prone position (bar RB) is lower leg muscle problems anyway.

Weighing in (pun intended) on the size queen discussion ...

When is the last time that one of the smaller players took a legitimate crushing hit? Does the AB head shot count? Can't really think of any others. It's almost like by the time they get to this point (serious NFL prospect) that they've learned how not to take the big hits.

This isn't MMA. There's no pound-for-pound measurements. It's open weight. Middleweights don't fight heavyweights for a reason.

New GMs usually have a couple yr honeymoon, but I like that Kahn has an aggressive philosophy.

That’s funny about Colbert. Maybe he wanted to be near the rink at North Park since he’s a big hockey guy.

They got new boards for the first time in 70 years so…

Whole Lotta talk for a guy yet to see the field lol. Austin is more than likely a nothing burger player. Just go in with that mentality and if he proves to have any value...then great.

His size is a disadvantage but if he can play he'll play. /discussion lol

Yeah if teams decide they need to jump on Levis and Richardson that’s good for Steelers, I’d think.

It feels like those guys could be grouped with last years class.

There was a lot of speculation about a few going in the first round last year and only KP went, and not until 20.

We have a lot of QB needy teams though.. Colts, Falcons, Raiders, that I hope grab Levis/Richardson.

I’m also hoping for that “wtf” pick to happen before 17.

It’d be pretty ideal if Levis/Richardson slides to the Titans. I think they’d pull the trigger on one instead of taking a tackle.

Breaking: TMZ Sports has learned a judge has ordered cops to arrest former Pittsburgh Steelers ex-NFL star Antonio Brown over unpaid child support.

Again, nobody has argued that size is irrelevant, you just continually keep ignoring a lot of small players that have good careers because it doesnt fit your predetermined narrative.

Because your chicken little.

Your presenting it as a fait accompli and it just isnt. I’ll use terms you may be able to follow:

Your acting as if being small automatically means he will get hurt and thats total shit. In your case chicken shit.

If we're real lucky, someone will go in for Herndon Hooker too.

I was reading an article on The Athletic doing a deep dive into the QBs. It made a solid case for Richardson having the understanding of the pocket and the game to become a top QB if he can improve his footwork and accuracy, and Levis as a dude who has had plenty of experience with pro concepts and just needs to be more consistent. Made me more confident other teams will like them.

Feels like the trouble with both guys is they need to play because they've got so little experience but there's going to be so many growing pains. In an ideal world teams could loan them to a spring league. I think the more likely is to run two years of a Jackson-like offence with them and hope to transition to being a more traditional pocket thrower.
