Re the OT stuff -

I can't remember how things went when they tried Chuks at LT. Before I paid attention really. I know some people said it went about as bad as Moore at RT. But, whatever happened, switching ain't easy once you build habits, and it's not like Okorafor is hugely better than Moore. I really wouldn't be surprised if Moore won a battle between the two of them.

But then I've always got the feeling the team like Moore than most fans. Ben's latest podcast talked about how he liked Moore and thought the team did too. They're clearly doing their research on potential replacements in the draft - the OL coach was at Skoronski's pro day, Tomlin took most of OSU's offensive line for dinner - but I dunno they feel the same fervor that this place does.

I'd point out that Moore had no penalties called in the final four games of the season and while I dunno how many of the four sacks were him, he did keep Garrett fairly quiet and the big "oh crap" moments they stick in the Ravens highlights came from the right side. For better or for worse, that final stretch saved a few people from the chopping block, and I really wouldn't be surprised if Moore was one of them.
I think they’ve set it up during FA where they can say all of the following is true:

1) the OL should be better, hopefully overall, but at least on the interior
2) Moore has all the tools, is still young and has picked up experience: now he will have a much better guard to his right (especially in pass pro) which should help his game in theory.
3) a LT draft pick is walking into the perfect situation to be developed. Not a ton of pressure to start, competition, and solid veteran starters if they do get pressed into action. Same could be said for a C draft pick.

If Gutekunst is wrong on Love he is fired. Yeshe will play for them however will he show up for camp and team ota practice with his new teammates. He probably is going to skip most off season stuff like he did in Greenbay

Pretty sure Gutekunst will get a couple years to see if the Love experiment works.

He’s not worried about the pressure of a fourth consecutive double digit losing season.

Jets have zero plans after Rodgers. White is gone, all meaningful FA QBs have signed, and Wilson has lost the room.

You never know about internal things, but from the outside looking in, Douglas is clearly the more desperate guy.

Maybe he’s a better poker player than Gutekunst and he won’t blink first, anything is possible.

So many mock drafts are all over the place with where/when guys are getting picked.

Yeah it’s going to make for a pretty interesting draft day I think. Having pick 32 is going to be awesome.

All I know is that I’m happy they were able to get Pickett last year. I don’t think the QB class really lived up to the hype it had so it’s nice to not have to be involved in that.

Yeah picking Pickett last year looks like the correct decision right now because there aren't a ton of legitimate QB prospects beyond the big 4 guys at the top, who are likely all going to be gone by pick #8. To even get a chance at one of those guys, the Steelers likely would have needed to go something like 5-12 or pay a fortune to trade up. And even then, I think there is a lot of risk with some of the top QBs (namely Richardson and Levis) that Pickett doesn't have. I'd take Stroud and Young over PIckett for sure, but Levis had super mediocre numbers as a senior last year and Richardson was only a starter for one season in college.

That doesn't mean that it will always look correct, but the 2023 QB draft prospects didn't do anything last year to make it seem like picking Pickett in 2022 wasn't correct.

Agree that it's nice not to be involved with the QB stuff this year.
Devil's advocate is that you could argue that KP not being on the roster likely moves us up a number of spots to potentially be able to nab one of those QB's though

I think this team would have needed Young or Stroud over Pickett because I'd take Pickett (right now) over Richardson and Levis. Even to just get a chance at one of those four, you would have needed to go 5-12. If you wanted to get one of the 2 QBs I would definitely take over Pickett, you would have had to out-tank the Bears and Texans. So yeah, not an easy task to do

For all of his faults, Tomlin can drag this team to .500 kicking and screaming. I don't think this team could have been bad enough to end up with a pick high enough to draft a QB that I'd prefer over Pickett.

The history of OSU QBs is so bad at the NFL level that Stroud spooks me. Probably not very logical, but it’s hard to brush aside.

Young could be a star, but his size is worrisome. However, that would kind of be the same thing I suppose as knocking KP for his hands.

Young has an it factor that will likely carry over into the NFL.

Steelers would have never finished high enough to grab him anyway.

All in all, I’m quite happy the Steelers didn’t follow the unsound logic of “waiting until next spring” to find their future QB.

Levis and Richardson are so talented but they’re not good. The right team could develop them into a superstar but that’s a lot of projection and things going right. Kenny is easily preferred to either at this juncture IMO. Both have the freakish talent to make that look stupid in 5 years but you can’t take the mystery box as of right now.

I think Young is 50/50 vs Kenny as of right now. Honestly they’re kinda similar. If you told me he’s a future star I think you have a point, if you told me he’s gonna be average I think you have a point.

I think I take Stroud over Pickett today, but I don’t feel too good about that take. I know the OSU quarterback history, and he’s not the flashiest but his tape is so f***ing good plus his mechanics, quick release and accuracy. And I’m a PSU guy. Still, not uber confident about taking him over Kenny.. I don’t think he’s a “can’t-miss” prospect. Rosen comes to mind.

Overall it definitely seems like the Steelers made the right move in drafting Pickett- which I’ll eat crow on, I didn’t think it was the right move. Even if he doesn’t turn out to be “the guy” (I think he will), if they work on giving him a good OC, OL, and receivers over his rookie deal then the next guy will come into a great situation.

In hindsight it was smart to take advantage of QB1 falling to pick 20 and not burn 3-4 high quality assets to get the top QB off the board.

So much this. I was also on the "maybe we should wait" wagon, and now we're here, I feel I've learnt a lesson or two about QB quality, what really matters, the odds of development going right, costs... getting a QB prospect like Pickett at 20 is real lucky. Will he be the guy? Maybe not, realistically it's at least 50-50 considering the history, but we passed on Trent McDuffie to do it rather than a top 10 pick.

I look at all the chat about Levis and Richardson and think the NFL needs a real development league. I feel like the odds of them navigating the jump in terms of building up the processing and pocket presence is too low, and would be a lot higher for taking it in a series of intermediate jumps.

Idk...the Jets are super horny for Rodgers and I can see them wanting this limbo to be over with. They are dumb to entertain this idea. Even dumber for giving up assets.

I think they are panicking. They should give this another year to see how their team performs before going big QB name hunting.
It's not the Jets, it's the Packers. Trading Rodgers before June 1st gives them $40MM of dead cap space, actually increasing Rodgers cap hit for this season by $8MM.

If the Packers trade him after June 1st, they gain ~$15MM in cap space.

What's funny is Burrow got smoke for having tiny hands at 9"...then came along KP with his 8.5" hands and lapping the competition for smallest hands. I do think it's a bit overblown but it certainly makes grip harder.

Edit: I wanted to see what all the noise was about and I have 9.25" hand span. So Burrow and KP may make millions of dollars but they can't take that win away from me.

The KP stuff reminded me that my right hand was slightly bigger than the other, which I forgot about long ago.

I checked last year to see if anything changed but nah still is 9.25 for my left and my right is 9.5. So not some weird freaky thing where it’s much longer.

I can actually throw well with both hands even though I’m a righty, and I don’t see much difference with my grip, but a quarter inch probably isn’t a big deal.

Gloves are so tacky now and have such great feel, that the hand size thing was always silly to me.

Ya I don't think it matters. All I ask is he has an improvement next year and this offense scores more than 1 TD a game. Tall ask, I know.

What I like about KP most is his moxy. The guy is a born leader and I think a lot of guys will bust their ass for him a little later in his career, if not already.

I definitely think we’re going the heavy run game route and going to try and mimic Philly/SF/Cleveland. Could be nice to see in a way. I loved Ben flinging it around and AB running wild, but some hard nosed football with a likeable team is very appealing to me.

If KP were in this class, he'd be at best the 5th QB off the board and that's only because Hooker blew out his knee.

No doubt, as many of the teams that passed on KP are in the top ten again.

Texans passed him over twice and are looking for a QB this year.

Carolina was a place there was a lot of smoke KP would go to.

Now they paid a kings ransom to move up and draft a guy at 1.

It will be interesting to look back in about five years and see how things worked out with these teams with the guys they took instead of KP, and the QBs they will likely take this year.

Probably, but to me that says more about the NFL's struggles to spot who's going to be a good QB than it does Pickett. If you'd shown teams Pickett's highlight reel from his first season he'd have gone top 10.

Well that's mostly just because teams are dumb and value potential tools over actual results :dunno:

Same line of thought is why fans thought Willis would go over Pickett. Sure, Willis can't play QB, but that athleticism!

I guarantee you that Richardson is going to get in a NFL game and will look like Willis next year. He's an all-upside player that would get eaten alive if he started in the NFL this year.

Pre draft? Probably

I think every QB needy team not in the top 2 trades their 1st for Kenny right now though. I think Houston would seriously consider it too.

Why they have gotten more out Mills than we did with KP

With all the visits and scouting theyve done, i really think theyre going to go ot or trade up for an ot.
They aren’t trading up they are doing due diligence so they can go Cb/ot 17 the other 32 pass rusher is the fall back if the top 3 OT or Cbs are gone

Because if Carolina takes Stroud it’s between 5’10 130lbs Bryce Young and complete projects in Levis and Richardson for their QB of the future.

Or they could risk punting to next year, and possibly not drafting in the top 3-5.

Hence why they’d consider sending it for Pickett. And also why the Steelers likely decline.
