Jalen Carter is having an absolutely terrible pre draft process it seems. Apparently he couldn’t finish drills at his pro day because he was so out of shape.

The guys talent is undeniable but he’s not doing himself any favors.

Gained 9 lbs apparently, so that wouldn't help his lungs.

Very likely could all be related to everything going on in his life, and not him just being lazy and failing to prepare for the pre draft workout.

Will be interesting to see if he slides after all this.

Edit: JuJu to Pats.

Juju 3 years, 33 mil to the patriots. Looks like he’s not about to be out of the league after all, haha.

Maybe I'm over reactive but that's the third strike on Carter not having his head on straight. If I was a team I'd still have him on the board, but I'd be searching for reasons to take someone else every pick until he's overwhelmingly the best option.

He is a guy without a position a converted S who runs and hits with no instincts he is everything we hate about bush.

Doesn't change the team's very clear interest levels in him

Also given he's a recent convert, the chances of him picking up the instincts seem pretty good. If he can gain them, he'd be a great pick.

Plus if he hits, he's clearly not everything people hated about Bush...

He’s much bigger too. I do agree with @bigdaddyk88 that the downsides are similar to what Bush struggled with.

Wouldn’t shock if me if the less flashy Campbell became the best ILB from this class over Sanders or Simpson though.

He definately falls.

And yes, you take him at 17. He produced in college. He will produce in the pros.

We have seen players who are far from perfect character wise still produce.

FB with the rest of "them".
I lol'd. If you are a brother of a player signed Pittsburgh Steeler, we could always use your services as a FB.

Heyward is good though. I hope they start to use him more. His catching ability is awesome, and with Najee appearing to have underwhelming acceleration, having a FB to keep him clean and let him get some steam up could really help.

The league has gotten away from utilizing FBs so much for so long, adding that as a wrinkle could be pretty cool.

It wouldn't shock me either.

But it wouldn't shock me if Sanders or Simpson become legit stars at the position, while it feels like Campbell tops out at solid does his position well piece.

I am not particularly jonesing for Simpson - in fact I wish they'd got a better guy in FA and taken the position off of their board early - but it seems real easy to see why the team are interested. It'll take a steep learning curve but the potential is big.

I didn't think he'd fall, but now the workout was pretty bad... he looked drunk on a couple of them. Pretty wild.

I'm not going to be a hypocrite about the racing stuff since I did that as an idiot teen and just got lucky no one died.

If he's there at 17 I'd have zero problems with that gamble. He could be a generational talent that the Steelers will never draft high enough to grab.

Exactly.

I definitely wouldn't take him top five.

But players all have some deficiencies at 17. Worth the gamble.

Interesting. How much earlier in the week? Before they went after LVE?
I think they probably sent out a handful of contracts with similar term to multiple milb and whoever signed them great kinda like wallace and Witherspoon last year

I’d be happy as hell if they moved up and grabbed him if he slipped out of the top ten.

I suspect he will drop now, just having a hard time wrapping my head around him falling to 17.

Reports said he was babysat in college they struggled to get him through practice and to the game

Other reports say all this stuff is being overblown.

I’d imagine if he slipped and the Steelers moved up for him, they will have done their own due diligence.

I think Carter's struggles recently can fully be explained with having to deal with the consequences of that accident. My guess is that he's overweight and not in shape because he's so damn stressed out from having to deal with that. I wouldn't read anything into his pro-day performance or anything like that when it comes to drafting him.

Now if he's at serious risk of going to jail? Yeah, that's a much bigger driving factor. But it's entirely reasonable for Carter to be struggling right now with how much stress he's under, expecting him to shut all of that out and perform to his capabilities isn't reasonable IMO.

And for all the crap I have given to Tomlin over the years for being stubborn, incapable of learning from mistakes, and hopelessly mediocre, the thing that he excels at is relating to players and being a 'players' coach'.

Perfect landing spot for this kid to land at for the issues to be a bump in the road.

And before I hear about AB blah blah blah I remind you that Tomlin got years of great play out of him before he completely whacked out.

Carter drops to 10 I package 17 and 32 to get him.
People said the same thing about Jordan Davis last year, and some said the same thing about Devin Bush 4 years ago.

I only consider a trade like this for a can't miss qb. Otherwise you trade up if you have to give up mid round picks to move a few spots.
