They definitely needed this. That’s a little pricier than I thought it’d be though.

Maybe they go EDGE in the draft and don’t keep Highsmith? To be fair to that bat shit crazy idea, it would be a shit ton of money locked up at one position if they kept him.
I don’t think that any big re-up would go down until camp though IIRC.
Highsmith is someone they believe in unlike sutton. They didn’t believe sutton was a full time outside CB. Highsmith has proven to them he is a solid OLb. They can easily give him 18 million aavIdle thought - anyone else wondering whether they're gonna keep Highsmith now?
To me it went as given when you looked at how much value they put on keeping their own. But Sutton just got given a fair pay day for what he's done and they didn't match.
At which point, why not Highsmith too? He's gonna be expensive. He's not a product of Watt, but his totals are going to look higher than his talent levels due to playing with him... and therefore his pay day. And if they're willing to let go of Sutton in a similar position, why not Highsmith?

They need a 3rd old and a starter DE in this draft. They keep talking up the strength of this draft at edge too. Previously I was against spending an early pick on edge as I feel like 1st-3rd rounders should have a clear path towards playing if good enough, but when I frame it as "spend a late 2nd to get a late 1st worthy player that'll do back up for one season then let us spent 16-20m elsewhere next season", that's a bit different...

TJ wants to be on a snap count and even if they bring back bud he should be Olb4 because of health issues.
Cam can not play 70 percent of the snaps next year
You are comparing a TE to a WR. You are also comparing someone who has played for the Raiders to the Steelers. Last year was much more similar to the teams Waller played for, and DJ had how many TDs?Impactful sure. However he finished his vegas career 17 td and 3500 yards in 5 years both are less than DJ has done so far. He had 1 season with 9 td

I dunno man. They sure sounded like they believed in Sutton right up until he left.
And while they can give Highsmith 18m, do they want to?
There's not an immediate starter 3-4 DE in this draft so that's kinda awkward. Not sure they need OLB3 any more than all the previous years they went nowhere near putting a premium pick on it.

They didn’t have the cap space to have a real Olb3 since 2020. Highsmith was a rookie 3rd round pick backing up Bud and TJ. They brought in ingram who thought he was better than Highsmith in 2021.I dunno man. They sure sounded like they believed in Sutton right up until he left.

I still have no clue what the plan is here but I’m very happy it does not involve Spillane
Yeah Spillane is at keast good at something. Not surprised Spillane got signed before bush. he can tackle people at least even if he’s seconds behind every pass play. They overpaid Ogunjobi but you have to in free agency to sign any DE of note. Not disappointed in Losing Sutton. It could be worse but he was average at best.
One of their top three picks will be Inside linebacker. Still need to grab someone unless they really like Robinson.
