Kinda hard to cover a 6'8 Reciever no doubt. This was my dream pickup.

Pickens - deep threat
DJ - Possession Intermediate
Robinson - slot
Austin - Gadget

Friar and Washington playing as 2 TE sets. Good luck covering them.

Steelers will have a pair of unique weapons at total opposite ends of the spectrum if Austin and Washington work out.

Apparently Washington knees scared alot of teams at the combine. His one knee may be shot.
Hines Ward didnt have an ACL when he broke in with the team, he had a decent career.

Khan you sonofabitch you did it

Oh the excuses are there: youth, rebuilt OL lacks chemistry, second year QB. If Tomlin wants to keep a lacky around he’ll have “reasoning” to do so

Washington likely pushes out Gentry with Heyward being TE3. He should help with run blocking quite a bit. He and Jones likely have some chemistry already in that department.

Also kudos to Khan for moving back into the 4th after the trade with NE. I guess they might look at ILB?

The concerns were real. But there is a good chance that Washington is looked back on as the steal of the draft.

We see it every year.

I would guess that since we have another weapon on offense as well as probably the best blocking tight end we've had in many years, we'll go for linebacker next.

Heyward's going to pick up a lot of FB work. There'll still be run blocking work for Gentry, not to mention I think he'd still be first guy up a lot of the time for in-line TE snaps if there's injuries.

*pause* Or, well, maybe they just cut him now. Guess that wouldn't surprise me either.

As for ILB... I don't think they ever really looked at the position all that much when scouting. If they do, I think it's going to be Nick Herbig as a guy who plays Inside and Outside as needed as he learns a more inside role. They looked at him more than any other guy still there and it's two birds with one stone.

Even if the concerns play out I think there's a good chance he provides 3rd round value.

Idle thought. Given they've yet to hit Edge and now have a crowded DL room, how many Edge rusher snaps is DeMarvin Leal gonna get next year?

The Steelers don't pick until the end of round 4, pick 30.

So very unlikely either is there.
I know, maybe we could try to trade up again. I'm surprised either is there. Maybe we can move this year's 4th and next year's 5th? I just see these guys' as second or third Rounders. That's where they were graded at from what I understand. Maybe I'm getting to greedy here but either one of them would be awesome to grab.

Think about it.

The Steelers traded a fourth to jump a couple of teams and get the tackle that they wanted (desperately needed), and then turned around and got the fourth back by moving down in the third round and ended up taking a player that I would have been thrilled with if they had taken with their original third round pick.

You can't play the draft board much better.

I wanted them to go Mayer with pick 32 to bookend with PF and create matchup headaches. But assuming that the knee issue is overblown, and the Steelers did meet with Washington and one would presume satisfied themselves that was so, I would rather have Washington. He ran a 4.6 40 at that size. He is an absolute freak.

Doubt we could move up far enough for Ringo. But hopefully we can snag another early pick tomorrow. Grab an edge like Herbig then take a shot on a safety like Daniel Scott.
Strengths:
  • Will come from heavens and lay the wood in run support near the line of scrimmage
  • Fluid movements both laterally and north/south; sudden, explosive when changing directions
  • Reads routes extremely well; will jump out-breaking routes from deep safety and arrive when the ball does
  • Plays like he's shot out of a cannon from center field when coming downhill on quick throws
  • Wrap-up tackler in space who might be one of the best DBs at minimizing YAC opportunities

Over the moon with this draft. Khan and Weidl I think put this franchise is an amazing position this offseason.

What would you rate Kahn's offseason now A thru F? I give him an A+
3 potential starters has to be an A.
I personally would've preferred a different db than Porter. But Porter was rated best available and will be better than Sutton.
I also would've preferred an ILB.
But those are readily available come cut down day and Washington offers intriguing, exciting potential and possibilities. And Robinson could still turn out pretty good with Roberts being only a 2 down backer.

Hard not to love what Khan and company have pulled off so far.

Trading up to get the last big upside 1st round OT was masterful. If Khan doesn't make that trade NE takes the CB Gonzalez at #14, the Jets take that last tackle at #15 and the Steelers probably have to settle on taking JPJ or Banks at #17. Khan swoops in and steals the tackle from the Jets, bets on one of the 1st round CB's falling to 32 because of the CB depth of the class and that's exactly what happened. He then recoups that lost 4th rounder by moving down in round 3 and probably still getting their guy in Darnell Washington.

The medical concerns with Washington are interesting. There's always a few big names that fall in the draft due to medical concerns. I guess it makes sense that teams may get concerned with how he's going to hold up. He's just such a monster sized human being. He is as one analyst put it "a one of one type of athlete". Meaning there's just not many guys built like him. It's a bit of a risk but probably well worth it at 93 overall.
