A couple of tidbits from Gerry Dylan’s chat yesterday:

— Seems to think that Jordan Davis is the top guy on their board. If they trade up for anyone, thinks it’ll be him

—Seems to think Willis is the only QB they’ll consider in round one. Says there’s no chance they trade up for him though and only consider him if Davis isn’t on the board.

—Thinks the first round pick will either be DL/WR

He really hates the idea of drafting a WB and wants them to draft a DL badly, so I don’t know how much of this is info he’s being fed by the front office and how much is his own personal feelings coming in to play. He’s also the guy who said there’s no chance they sign Myles Jack about 4 hours before it happened so I don’t know how much he actually knows.
None of them knows anything. It’s just a matter of whether they present themselves as offering a best-guess or as definitive. And with the variety of guesses out there, someone’s likely to guess right and claim they knew all along.

KC has probably been the best GM in sports since the millennium. This graphic is actually ridiculous.

Hopefully he makes it one last haul.

Biggest anticipation for me is if he wants to make one big splash to put a final stamp on his career or if he will be conservative.

He has been almost whining for months they shouldn’t take a QB, so take it with a grain of salt.

Steelers 100% want to get a QB IMHO, just depends on how much they value them.

Definitely don’t want them to pull a Troy Edwards though.

Kind of hoping one of the big 3 OTs slip out of the top ten and Colbert makes a big move to get him.

If a couple QBs go in the top ten… ie Car and Seattle, one of those T could likely slip. Especially because those two teams really need T help.

Oh I totally disagree on Willis falling top 10. Might even drop to 15.

Gentlemen's bet?
Carolina keeps trying to sell darnold but the coach and gm are going to be fired I am sure they would prefer to trade back but no one is willing to trade up. Willis gets them another year

Willis is definitely getting out of the top 10. Carolina is going take Ekwonu at 6 or trade back and he will still most likely be there. Seattle is going to take Stingley (I think he goes at 3 though) or Davis. Willis is going to be available at 20
I do think Seattle and Atlanta will pass on QB in the top 10 and try and trade back into the 1st so if Carolina doesn’t take Willis and takes Pickett you are probably right

That’s the other thing. I think if Carolina takes a QB it’s going to be Pickett. But I think they go offensive line and then wait out the Mayfield situation

I find it funny that you make all these proclamations, but when it comes down to making a friendly bet you avoid and deflect.

Yeah I think he’s definitely letting his own biases come into play. His whole attitude this year surrounding the draft has been really weird. I guess that’s just Pittsburgh media though.

I think my unlikely scenario that I want to see happen is Hamilton somehow slipping to the Steelers. He’s probably a top 5 player in the draft but is slipping because of his 40 time and position. He and Minkah would be nasty though.

Not my words, but perfectly explained:

Every QB ever drafted has to get better in the areas you mentioned. Yes I realize that is relative and some QBs will be further along than others but to me one the biggest factors in QB success/failure is the team they go to. I think that matters far more than people think it does.

If Ben had gone to the Browns is he a 2 x Sb champ and a HOFer? I'd bet a few dollars he wouldn't have been. If KC didn't roll the dice on Mahomes and he went to elsewhere without the offensive guru, a HOF TE and a solid all round team does he excel?

So when we discuss floors and ceilings I think it is critical we put destination in that equation. Yet rarely does that enter the QB conversation.

For example: Trevor Lawrence. He was being discussed as can't miss prospect, a surefire franchise QB and he still can be. I thought he was getting overhyped a bit and then when he went to the Jags a dysfunctional clown show? I feared for the lad.

Mack Jones a guy I thought and still thinks lack any elite physical qualities went to a settled team with a good coaching and organization.

Of course Jones could flop and Lawrence could realize his potential but right now? Jones is in a far better situation.

right and so if the Steelers select Willis he’ll be going to a team and coach that has no idea how to develop his accuracy and decision making so he’ll be nothing more than a glorified runner…plus, he’s 6 foot only…one thing I agree with Dulac on is that they should pass on him

Heard Ben on DVE this morning on my way into work. They were talking about his draft experience. They jokingly asked him if he was sure he wouldn't pull a Brady and come back. He responded the difference is his coach and GM don't want him back. Found it interesting he felt the need to throw that out there.

I think it was best for everyone to move on. Ben was a good soldier but his time was up.
He wasn't going to succeed around the team as constructed. Cement footed QB behind a porous Oline and an OC that wants to run RPO?

I would be morbidly interested in seeing who did better this season, the Steelers or Ben on a team with no Canada and an offensive line.

He speaks his mind and I like that.

Safety is much like RB in that it’s such a devalued position. I’d have to think about that scenario for a bit…

I basically want Pickett, a trade up for one of the big three OTs, WR, DL in that order.

I really think one of those stud OTs may slip and they are impossible to find. Any of those three could end up as a franchise cornerstone and Steelers have never had one in my lifetime.

Colbert needs to move heaven and earth if the top ten teams are stupid enough to let one slip by.

Any particular reason? Not that it's a super guide, but pretty much all of the last minute mock drafts I've seen have them all going top 6.

I hope they trade up to get someone other than a QB just for the reactions.
especially the brief moment of anger and confusion before they realize they traded up for a guy who fills an immediate need other than QB

"The Pittsburgh Steelers are now on the clock. With the (x)th pick in the 2022 Draft, the Steelers select..."

"Yay they're getting Malik Wil-"

"Cornerback, Trent McDuffie"

"NOOOO"

Well since Ben was the fastest snap to the throw and also did a ton of the throws short of the sticks before Canada was the oc I don’t think it would have been good for Ben. He struggled when he had to time this season and couldn’t beat basic cover 1 last year

Well if it’s mcDuffie I will be a little upset but if it was for stingley Gardner or Johnson I would love it

I love McDuffie and would be ecstatic if they got him. I would take Gardner or Stingley over him though.

IMO, Zion Johnson is not worth trading up for, aka, I don't really see any reason to trade up in the first round for a Guard. It would be like trading up for a RB.

Eh, Ben definitely helped with the clutch factor and willing the team to victory a few times last year, they’ll miss that. But yeah, overall he wasn’t as good anymore and it’s best just to move on.

I don’t want a QB in this draft. Unfortunately, I agree with the above thoughts that Dulac’s analysis should be taken with a grain of salt.

And further, I believe the best prognosticator for the Steelers lately has been Dave baby from Steelers Depot. And his thoughts, well… I’ve got some bad news:
