At that salary, the Steelers need to draft Pickett, spend a bunch of money in free agency on offensive line help and start building the team for Pickett's takeover sometime in 2023.
Pickett and his little girlie gloved hands can be fumbling on some other team. Embrace the suck of the '22 season and get a QB in the '23 draft where we should have better options due to being a non-playoff team. I still don't know how we backed into the playoffs last year. Its not like we don't have multiple areas where we need to rebuild.

Supply and demand. Being paid to start vs. signing as a backup. He was expected to get as much as 10mm per year this off-season, so it’s actually a bit cheaper.

If the Steelers FO people were smart, and in charge of player personnel decisions (they aren't, Tomlin has been running the show for years), this would be a draft attacking the OL and DL, both great pools of talent in this crop of prospects.

Why?

1. It's easily in the conversation for worst QB class in the last 20 years, on paper. I don't see a single legitimate 1st round talent based on this year's performance other than Pickett and he's a late 1st rounder IMO.

2. The Steelers have weapons. Harris showed he's a borderline, 3 down elite back. Yeah the YPC sucked, but part of that was the disastrous OL play, namely in the run game, and if Harris follows the Bell curve, physically speaking, he'd be wise to trim a few pounds off his body, and gain a step of quickness. DJ had a hellova rebound year. Yeah, late season drops popped up, but the whole season was very good. He's young. JuJu is surely gone but Claypool will be back and hopefully looks more like the rookie version. Patty F had a damn good year at TE and is a legit threat in the receiving game. He's got top 5 TE potential in the league. You could do a lot worse than Pittsburgh in terms of young, cost controlled weaponry.

3. What is missing on offense right now, besides a legit starter at QB? OL talent. This draft has a lot of it. Don't be stupid. You can add in the first 3 rounds, 2 legitimate starting caliber players.

4. Cam Heyward is old, by any standard. We still have no difference maker in the middle of the line, and Tuitt, may or may not come back, and even if he does, can he stay on the field? Having better talent on the DL, especially players who can make a difference 3, 4, 5 years from now, are needed. Cam can't play forever, and your run defense starts in the trenches.

5. Still plenty of quality DB's in FA. Sign 1, hell sign 2. Lord knows Tomlin can't pick a DB to save his life, but hey, what do I know. Only have 15+ years of track record.

Given we traded away multiple mid round picks, I'd love a trade down in round 1, even out of round 1 completely, draft OL, DL, ILB in some combination over the first 3 rounds. Build the damn team through the draft and FA this year, so that after Trubisky has the meh season we all know he will, you theoretically have more talented for a QB in 2023's class, which can't possibly be worse than this years class.

Just because you need a QB doesn't mean you go and waste draft capital in a piss poor draft market.

It would be better to draft this year to build the OL and draft a QB over the following 2 drafts. If one of the QB’s falls in this draft, sure take him. But they are probably not falling. And they are also not quality enough worth trading up for. This QB draft is horrid. But I’d be expecting they draft a lot of OL this year. And I’m sure my expectation won’t be left with disappointment. Anyone with the expectation of a QB in this draft has the high likelihood of disappointment on multiple levels.

Suddenly, Cole is the Vikings top-graded offensive lineman, scoring a 71.8 per Pro Football Focus grade. And somehow, that tops right tackle Brian O’Neill’s score, which is 70.9 through 11 games. PFF is not without faults, but generally speaking, it serves as a reasonable indicator of player performance. For example, though, not a single Vikings fan around the globe would proclaim Cole a better football player than O’Neill.

I don't hate the Okrafor contract, and I don't hate the Cole contract, but if that's the ceiling of ambition for the team this free agency it feels like no one's gonna be confident in the OL come next season.

I think Green moving away from C is going to do wonders. Okrafor contract I'm "whatever" about. He's an average Tackle

So just this addition is going to take this Oline from Flaming bag of poop to just a bag of poop.

I cannot overstate just how bad Turner and Green were last season- just horrendous.

I tried to warn people about Turner. The Chargers legit had the worst offensive line in football two years ago and they cut the guy last offseason, that should have told everyone what they needed to know

James Daniels to Pittsburgh. That’s an awesome move right there.

There's their swing tackle, but they still haven't addressed the Dline

Heyward is old and Tuitt definitely isn't returning

Would love Jack Myles at LB

Oh Daniels isn’t the swing tackle. He’ll be a starter at one of the guard spots for sure.

They re-signed Monty Adams as well so IF Tuitt is back, then their D line is more or less set. Maybe they draft someone.

I’d still go heavy D in the draft. Only draft a QB in round 1 if Pickett or Willis falls. Even then I’d be hesitant. If that C manages to fall I’d consider moving up to draft him, though.

Pickett and tribsky are the same player and Willis is not falling to 20. Right now WR CB and G (if they don’t think Doctson will be healthy are in play at 20

Yeah I can forgive green cause he was a rookie learning a new position and could be a good zone blocking C but he needs guards to work with. Turner was a turnstile and missed a ton of slide protection calls barely got to the 2nd level and for a phone both g he sucked in the run game.

Green can’t play G he has to be a zone blocking c only where he combo blocks and then get to the 2nd level. He needs to faster with his hand placement after the snap. He will need legit guards to play off of
