I know it because he was inactive yesterday for Jacksonville. How come you’re the only person on the planet that sees it and not actual NFL teams?

I'm not sure that Dobbs is all that good or that he would be helping the Steelers, but keep in mind that Jacksonville currently has a guy making like $50 million guaranteed as their backup... Dobbs won't ever dress over Foles simply because of that

Maybe, but I also think it’s incumbent on the coach to dress the best 53 players to give your team a chance to win. And obviously, in the coach’s mind, he’s not one of his best 53.

Steelers have the youngest skill position players in the league right now, combined with a bad OC, a street FA rookie at QB, this is what you get.

Not surprised the same doom and gloom people are back at it again.

If only the Steelers had the Browns skill pos... oh wait...

Get Ben back that gives you your HOF QB again and your OC, just need to find a decent RB that can stay healthy and a probably a TE.

Washington and DJ are emerging as good young receivers and they have done it with major instability at QB and barely any running game to pull off coverage.

  • We don't know if the HOF QB is in there. Ben often looked bad and very Brown-dependent last year. Who knows about his arm. He's pushing 300 pounds right now.
  • It's not inconceivable that Mason will be better than Ben by next year, especially if Ben doesn't knock off at least 30-40 lbs.
  • The OLine is imploding before our very eyes. Minor detail there.
Perhaps 8-8 gets Randy fired which would be nice.

- Maybe Roth comes back worse for wear, or having a year off with less wear and tear on his body, and fixing an arm injury that was nagging him for a couple years makes him even better.

- I don’t care about his weight. People have obsessed about it since his third year in the league and he’s done kind of ok.

- Steelers have some good young OL in reserve, and only Foster really concerns me.

Again I am not saying Dobbs is great or that he would even make the Steelers better... you can think it's incumbent on whoever to dress the best players, but you are out of your mind if you actually believe Dobbs would dress over Foles even if the coaching staff thought he was better

We'll see about "even better." He led the league in INTs last year. Made a lot of loose throws. Antonio Brown isn't walking back through that door (okay you can't rule anything out but....)

Perhaps if the arm had been bothering him for some time you may see progression. His shape matters because the only data points for "play QB forever" (Brady & Brees) kept themselves in incredible shape.

I don't see how people can't look at Philip Rivers this year and not think that's a possible - even likely - outcome for Ben next year. Like, good enough to not lose his job to Rudolph outright but not good enough to lead us to the promised land.

Thank Christ that crazy f*** isn’t walking through that door, because a majority of his picks came from forcing the ball to AB.

Rivers has never been a guy I have thought much of, and he and Roth are entirely different QBs.

I also don’t think Roth is out of shape or gained a bunch of weight.

He looks about the same as always when he grows a knarly, mountain man beard which has always made him look heavy. This pic was from a couple years ago and his beard is not nearly as out of control as it is now:

I can't believe people are bringing up Ben's weight when he's out for the season as a reason for doom and gloom. Ridiculous

Just curious, why have you never thought much of Rivers?

Pens are off for a week so there a few days to not complain about MM. so why not worry complain about Ben.

This has basically been a throwaway season. Need some support for OL, a reliable TE, some depth - not 56 - at OLB and our HOF QB back even at 38, or whatever he’ll be. Also need new OC (won’t happen) and new ST coach (won’t happen unless current one chokes on his gum). it’s been pleasant watching 18 and 13 come in this season despite not having an NFL QB throwing to them.

Just feel like he’s the Drew Bledsoe of this era... a guy well thought of around the league, but he doesn’t have it when it matters.

Aside from the Natrone Means era I have always liked the Chargers and think they f***ed up hard with Brees. I think they would have had at least a couple SBs with him at the helm instead of Rivers.

I get all the arguments around why they drafted Rivers, and the Brees injury scare, but always disagreed with it. That mistake put them in a bad situation having to pay both guys when Brees was due up in ‘06.

I had a buddy who was a huge Brees fan back then and told him the Chargers f***ed up hard keeping Rivers. I’ve never once doubted that feeling TBTH.

I’m sure they would have gotten a nice haul for Rivers and add that to what has become one of the most prolific QBs of all time in Brees... that’s why I think they would have won a couple SBs in an alt universe.

.

Fully agree

Think of it likethis: would you trust Rivers to win you the game if you need a TD with 2 mins left?

Is it a playoff game?... then nah, he will throw a pick or something stupid.

Just not a big fan and never liked him. Feel like he’s the most overrated QB of this era and he’s never done shit outside the regular season.

Manning and Roth got two SBs and Rivers somehow always gets put next to them, which boggles my mind.

The only similarities are being in the same draft class.

Rivers is Captain Unclutch.

I agree with most, but Ben could be very far off his HOF self. Not all players age the same. I personally am expecting a very short stint from Ben next year. I hope the organization is prepared for that occurrence.

Rivers is >>> Eli. The defense and David Tyree were the reason Eli beat the Pats.

Also to get to be captain clutch in the playoffs you have to get there in the first place and Eli never helped much at all there.

I think Ben'll make great Ben plays but he'll also go full gunslinger and throw a ton of picks.

I often think that people overly fetishize defense-reading...most top young quarterbacks aren't D-reading geniuses they just have 1-2 routes they focus on, a dumpoff option and their mobility. It works. Like Rivers is a genius compared to Josh Allen at diagnosing defenses and whatnot but you'd take Allen 10/10x to win a football game now. Sometimes you can read the defense right and you activate gun-sling mode and throw picks. I'm fully expecting that from Ben next year.

If there's a single thing holding Mason Rudolph back it is his lack of mobility especially in the pocket. Hope he works on it this spring. I've seen him show athleticism when chasing down his interceptions (lol) and in some of his scrambles. If he can be a league-average QB next year we can still contend even if Ben falls off.

He gets put next to them because he has better numbers then both of them over their careers... He is definitely better then Manning and he is closer to Ben then a lot of people like to think... Winning the Super Bowl isn't the only criteria to judge guys
