Rudolph is a career back up. His play vs Detroit cemented that.

I wouldn't mind seeing Huntley or Trubisky or Jimmy G as a stop gap.

Wilson or Rodgers would be a pipe dream and they have no reason to come here.

Yeah how dare I not ignore who he is as a person and his indiscretions and hail him a legend like the rest of the sheep.
Regardless of your personal opinions on him he's been our leader for 18 years, through everything and only spoke good of the steelers, he loves this city, this franchise and its fans. Let him have his roses, he's earned them.

Why would they have no reason to come here? We have elite playmakers on both sides of the ball. Improving the o-line will be a point of emphasis this off-season. Despite the opinion on here, Tomlin is well respected among players across the league. Rodgers has spoken highly of Tomlin/Pittsburgh. Russ Wilson seems set to go to NYG, but Pittsburgh is an improvement over his current situation.

I don’t see Mason has anything more than Newton in New England I think tribsky is a good call to compete. Huntley isn’t a free agent and no way Bmore trades him and Jimmy G isn’t worth his 24 million dollar cap hit with injuries

I'm not a kid. Maybe it's why I don't blindly follow him as some hero.

I didn't think you were a kid. I thought he dissed you as a kid and you've been holding a grudge ever since.
And did I claim he was a hero? I merely pointed out that he had a fantastic career and QB'd 2 SB winning teams and played in a 3rd one.

Yet you got personal with him calling him fat and greasy. You're really no different than Simmons from the Toronto Sun who parroted the hot dog thing

This is a really good post.

Look, I made my elementary-age daughter stop wearing her #7 jersey (which she received as a gift) after the sexual assault allegations came out. And I’ve rolled my eyes at his diva-esque comments on more than one occasion. I’m hardly here to paint an overly-rosy picture or hail the guy as a paragon of virtue. But you’re damn right people are picking and choosing their standards inconsistently.

Thanks.

And the people I mentioned have history based on FACTS and EVIDENCE. Not allegations- true verifiable facts where they've done things way worse than what Ben has been ACCUSED of.

It's weird

We could probably send a couple lower picks over and get Jimmy G. I would be all for it. Sign him to a couple year deal and draft the next guy to take over.

Ben definitely didn’t help himself being a douche bag and possibly a predator, but shit like Ray Lewis being portrayed by the media as some Jesus loving role model makes me vomit.

Not only was he allegedly responsible for covering up the murders of two young guys (or possibly doing them himself), he was a woman beater that rivaled Jim Brown.

Do some research on what he did in college to a few women and it will turn your stomach, most especially the pregnant one.

Behind our current line, he would last 5.2 quarters.

I also don't see the fit.......

I was with you til this last point.

Just because he settled out of court doesn’t absolve him of what he was accused of. Some people will hate him regardless, I don’t think that’s weird at all.

I’m willing to overlook off field stuff for any player as long as the league allows them to play, but I’m not gonna go out of my way to get a jersey or anything like that.

I don't understand the whole Trubisky and Mariota thing. It's like people look at the Canada offense and think they can just grab some guy who ran that type of offense in college and they will work in the pros.

If that was the case then Mariota and Trubisky would be successful QBs running that offense in the NFL. They are backups for a reason.

I could see them going after Jameis Winston, though he seems to hurt all the time. Teddy Bridgewater is ok. Maybe Daniel Jones if NYG get Russell Wilson. I don't know, there just isn't much out there.

I learned long ago to not look to professional sports for moral guidance from upstanding citizens. There are of course good guys, but the NFL in particular has a long history of guys accused of, if not convicted of, murder, sexual assault, domestic violence, running dog fighting rings, etc. and that is just the legal stuff. Even the guys that come off as good guys can be jerks when the cameras are off. Like or dislike whoever you want for whatever reasons you want, but I find it more enjoyable to not try and parse out he-said-she-said lawsuits and second hand stories of encounters and instead just focus on what they do on the field while keeping in mind that a lot of these guys are not good people.

In that sense, I couldn't ask for a better QB for the Steelers than Ben. He's not perfect by any means, but he brought us 2 Superbowls, 18 years of mostly competitive football, a ton of exciting moments that I will remember forever, and embodied what being a true Steeler* is all about. If you look around, there's not many of those left.

*Note: I don't use "true Steeler" as some sort of self righteous, morally superior, can do no wrong type of term. It's more like on field excellence, toughness, competitiveness, having an understanding and respect for the greats that came before you, having pride in being a Steeler. It's kind of hard to define, but you know it when you see it and Ben certainly falls in that category IMO. I'm not sure there's a handful of other guys left on the roster that do.

Please note I did not say he should be absolved or didn't do those things. I'm saying there was either little or no evidence he did compared to the others.

I agree with this take in general. Because all pro athletes are no different than the general population: some are upstanding citizens and some are just downright nasty animals.

With the Steelers win last night. They are locked into the 14th-18th draft pick range.

If they win on Sunday, and don't make the playoffs, they will lock in the 18th pick. If they lose they will pick somewhere between 14th-16th.

Dissed me as a kid? Mate I'm older than Ben by more than a few years.

Ben is a douche. You want to blindly follow him that's good for you. This is a board that also loves Casey DeSmith and I make no bones about not being a part of that either.

Cam Heyward is a leader.
Turdlisberger is not.

There’s a lot more nuance to SA allegations, but I’m not gonna go there. We can just agree to disagree to move past the topic.

Have you read my responses? You're rage replying to stuff I've never said. I'm not "blindly following him" and I never dubbed him a "hero".
