Some interesting names on there I’m mostly already aware of.

Reich is a guy I forgot about, and someone I felt would be good at developing a young QB a few yrs back.

But his last couple seasons have been disastrous, and his lack of development with Young is concerning.

There was apparently a lot of back stabbing going on in Carolina towards the end of his tenure there.

Guys snitching behind each other’s back to Tepper and alleged sabotaging efforts etc

Some scary dysfunction under Reich’s watch, and while I don’t blame him for all of it, the red flags are hard to ignore.

I thought I was in for some pain when Leftwich was the first one on the list, but some interesting names actually. I'd also rule out any of the coaches that focus on running the ball (Roman, Lynn). Running the ball is important, especially with how this team is currently built, but we need someone to fix the passing game.

Just don't know what OC Candidate is going to take the job with HC Cliché sticking his dick in the OC's punchbowl & I don't have faith in poor little rich kid AR2 to put his foot down & tell Him to not do that

I wish I could be positive, but I’m not.

Things have gotten so bad that around this time last year, I was trying to convince myself Canada coming back could work.

I knew in the back of my mind it would be a disaster, but Tomlin Purgatory makes you talk yourself into the dumbest shit.

Not going to do that to myself this year.

Reality is the only thing that can change the fortunes of this org is hiring a prodigy OC that Tomlin doesn’t meddle with.

Do you think that’s going to happen?

For shit to happen in the right direction, a philosophy change they have to start losing. No more 9-8. Like multiple seasons of 3-4 wins.

Yea it’s the only thing I care about for the time being. Who the f*** is the OC gonna be?

I said last year we’d only go as far as KP and Canada take us. Neither one of them finished the season, haha. It was a wasted year and on the surface seems to be eye opening for Tomlin (even though his are always crazy wide open). He’s never had this much criticism before and some national folks are actually saying a wee bit about his playoff failures.

He’s still largely liked nationally and viewed as a top end coach, but there are criticisms when there never has been before.

We’ll see.

Obviously the OC needed a focused change. But the what's being missed is that their D is a huge a problem as well. I don't hear anyone talking about that.

I have never lived through a period in Pittsburgh sports where every team seems content with not trying to win. I don't demand them to win, only to try.

I think if there is an OC who has a unique running gameplan that can incorporate two very capable backs, the organization may be able to get back on track by being different enough. I remember when Bus got here and how much fun it was to watch that brand of football. Both Najee and Warren are capable.

Is it? How’d they win games then?

That’s why Tomlin is such a nightmare as a coach, and they will ride that mediocre bus in perpetuity with him.

I have no doubt he would have f***ed up CJ Stroud with Canada as the OC and his own ultra conservative, safe philosophy so he can win on D.

So I can’t realistically see them ever finding a franchise guy via the draft until Tomlin is forced to change.

Canada was a shitty OC, but he basically told us he was doing what Tomlin wanted.

I have no idea how this gets fixed anymore.

I just know I’m never going back to convincing myself of stupid shit just because we are in Tomlin Purgatory.

Everyone blames their O for the lopsided time of possession stats, reality was their D had a hard time getting off of the field which elevated the problem with O. I have a much more critical eye with the D since that is where the money is currently sunk with the roster. At Buffalo, they could not keep them out of the endzone until they were 3 TD's down, a very recurring problem in recent playoff games.

Injuries?? Take a look at the SF game when they were 100%, they couldn't stop them, no, they couldn't slow them at all until SF gave them mercy.

They were among the league leaders in turnover differential which is ultimately why they made the playoffs. The offense put the defense in bad position with turnovers in the buffalo game. Get your eyes checked.

Also lol at bringing up a game from week 1, against the best team in the league.

I’m not saying the defense is perfect, but you’re not being very logical.

Funny enough. After the press conference yesterday I started researching all the teams I feel have a good offense and who could be good candidates. And the one that stuck out to me was Zac Robinson, the passing game coordinator for the Rams.

Look at what Nacua and Atwell did this year and Robinson is directly responsible. Stafford who was left for dead looked absolutely fantastic this year. And there running attack gained more yards and had a better YPC than the Steelers.

He is the guy that I want, but I think Tomlin will end up going with a Bevell or Waldron. A guy who has called plays in the NFL.

I really liked @pistolpete11 suggestion of Frank Reich. He’s my #1 choice right now given the criteria they’re looking for.
I thought he was going to retire he gas a ton of money coming from the Panthers

I pretty sure Tomlin said he wants an oc with nfl play call experience which is why Faulkner was ruled out

Just for clarity, I wasn't necessarily advocating for him. I was just looking for previous OC who were available for reasons other than being fired as a OC (Reich being fired as a HC, obviously). He does intrigue me, though.

not saying its right or wrong, but pretty rich coming from a guy who landed a HC job for one of the most premier and revered franchises in all the sports, after being a DC for one year

I was exaggerating about the 5-12 record to point out that I’d get more enjoyment out of seeing a young QB develop even if they lose for a couple of seasons, than watching the endless, hopeless loop FA QBs bring.

One NFL truism that has held most of my life - if your team is in the position of having to sign FA QBs to start, they have no real future of being legit contenders.

So while I understand your point, I’ll always have a great aversion to building your roster this way… to me it’s basically an org telling us they have no real plan to compete for a SB.
I mean the Bucs signed Baker in FA to a $4m deal and are still playing.

I think Klint Kubiak checks the most theoretical boxes for me. Worked with a young QB and helped him become one of the better passers in the league as a rookie, has worked in a style of offense I think would work really well here, has pedigree, and is young.

He has no track record though, so that's the risk, and why I think they will ultimately not select him.

He called plays in Denver and in Minnesota

It kind of sucks that we are so reactionary as an organization because this really would be the perfect time to put Tomlin on the block. Andy Reid talking about not coming back now. It would be a free for all.

I don’t agree with Rudolph having no reason to sign here. This is definitely an attractive spot.

If I’m him, I’m either back in the Burgh or chasing a 2023 Carolina Panthers QB situation and going to a team that takes a QB early.

If you’re Rudolph the destination is about guaranteed money and a shaky QB room. We 100% have the latter (and I don’t hate KP).
