I'm more excited for the Flyers than I am the in season tournament. What the f*** is this stupid bullshit. The prize is literally money for the players. It means nothing for fans. In fact the teams competing in the final actually end up playing 83 games. They're just glorified regular season games to fans
Probably a way for the teams to charge more for regular season games.

No more, no less.

Personally, I am at least so far enjoying the more technically sound play by the Sixers. Are they contenders....no! I have resigned myself to this and 1st half of season doesn't mean squat unless they totally shit the bed and have no chance at the playoffs. We know as presently constructed going far in the playoffs unlikely unless their team play becomes such a well oiled machine and Embiid becomes more of an alpha leader in the Giannis or Butler mold. Seems Nurse is challenging him a bit and Embiid taking it to heart....we'll see if it grates him too much or he takes that much needed next step.

I really don’t understand why everyone is up in arms about the tournament. It replaces regular season games. Worst case, nothing changes. Best case, players care and you get some more competitive regular season games.

Now if they added more games, I’d complain too. But they’re trying something meaningfully new and putting some effort into it. That’s a good thing.

It's just like the 18th outdoor game. Does it affect my fandom of the sport? Obviously not. Does it make me roll my eyes so hard that my optic nerves get tangled because it's so blatantly obvious that it's a shameless money grab? Obviously yes. But they are well within their right to do that, as I'm of course well within my right to not take it seriously.

No, it’s like the 1st outdoor game. This isn’t the 18th time they’ve tried to add a mid-season tournament. Maybe it flops. Maybe it’s an initial success like the outdoor games and the shine wears off over time. They won’t know until they try it. I’m just glad they’re putting effort into it rather than half-assing it.

Hell, it’s no more made up or a cash grab than the playoffs. But we’re used to those.

Silver's been begging for it for years according to what I've read, so maybe it is the 18th time they've tried to add it!

Also, they are adding a meaningless game. The championship game is an 83rd game which does not effect regular season standings.

Personally, I think winning the championship game and playing the 83rd game should swap a win for a loss during the 82 game schedule. So you go from 50-32 to 51-31 for example. That would at least give SOME meaning to all this. As opposed to something hilariously exploitable like an automatic playoff bid, which I've seen thrown out as an idea

Something tells me he's getting the max contract next year.
Just an educated guess.
I think he was getting the max after last year anyway, probably at any point during it... but right now for the Sixers a max extension isn't the most beneficial use of cap-space. Maxey (as an RFA) has a cap-hold of like $13M until he signs his deal. Once he does that max is probably going to be like $25M more than his cap-hold. So that's a pretty big cap space difference to keep and then extend him.

Yep. The tier of young player that gets less than the max is Tyler Herro or Jordan Poole. Maxey easily passed that by the end of ‘21-22, which is the year the shooting took off.

They need to do whatever it is they’re trying to do before that new contract.
