Oubre is playing the way you would love harris to play.

Reality is coming but enjoying it in the meantime.

There is a point he can reach at which they will simply tell Harden to stay away. I don’t know where it is, but I strongly believe it exists.

His change of pace tactics were noteworthy. The game was entirely different post-1st when the offense ran through him. You can give me infinite Embiid-Maxey DHOs because it’s a cheat code.

I was looking at his 15/1 A/TO ratio this season and thinking about a while ago we were talking about how his evolution as a passer requires turnovers or risk. He had a spinning transition pass to Harris and a rim cut to Oubre (Embiid and Maxey seem to click with him) that were fantastic. You can tell he’s working on getting Embiid pocket passes at the free throw line a la Harden. I don’t really have a point (lol), but I’m just monitoring his risk level as a passer on a team that is otherwise on the clunky side there.

Someone brought this up elsewhere — If you build around Embiid + Maxey, what do you even want your ideal other starters to look like? No superstars allowed.

I’m tempted to say athletic 2-way shooters, but I feel like that’s always the answer. It’s the answer, yeah?

Maybe some type of bigger combo guard who can also run another unit. Love DMelt, but he struggles as anything but a secondary/tertiary handler. Passing is still a team weakness. I know Harris gets (too much) grief, but I think an efficient iso matchup hunter works way better with those two than Embiid+Harden. There’s breathing room again for that type.

I am sure Nurse will be pushing for signing OG in the offseason. A 3+D that can actually guard other teams 2-5 would be nice with those 2. But you don't want him dribbling or creating shots.

A 3 and D wing has been the glaring weakness on this team since… forever? They did have one for about 10 minutes on draft night in 2018.

Yeah, most of the variation was in how you valued defense vs shooting. The more I thought about it, the heavier I pushed into the former.

I went with Vassell + Caruso + OG. All 3 are phenomenal defenders. Vassell gives you an initiator with size who can also play off ball. Caruso and OG shoot well enough as long as they’re not asked to create with regularity.

I almost went Jalen Williams instead of Caruso, but the rookie deal value made it feel like cheating.

All this movement, guys hitting open cutters with nice passes… are they allowed to do that?

Best team passing quarter this season, I think. Lot of quick swings and inside dimes. Embiid looking like the pre-Harden version who grew as a passer. Some of it might be because Portland is blowing more coverages than Ristolainen.

Kinda criminal Maxey doesn’t have an assist. He’s giving Embiid that Harden PnR bounce pass on repeat. Maybe he could work on the timing, but Maxey is basically NBA Kirby absorbing the skills of others.

Who had Reed only behind Maxey in 3PAs at the half?
