What happened with St Louis last year? Stop. The season is early. The penguins are a great team with many stars. They’ll be fine.

Once Crosby and Malkin retire they are toast. They have one of the worst prospect pools as well.

Cant wait to see it

Winning a period? The Penguins were playing with Boston for the first 20 minutes and then dominated the last 40. They hit multiple posts. Goaltending and a bit of puck luck was the difference in this one, but Murray is as steady as they come usually. The Penguins play like they did last night, which is to say to their strength (speed), they beat any team in the league 9/10 times. Boston scores three goals from the far perimeter; those just don’t usually go in.

I'm curious how you think they dominated the third.

They had a ton of success and were gifted two of the best players of the last two decades. Time for them to feel the slow burn of a long rebuild. They will have to fight the next few years for top 3 in Metro, if not a wildcard spot.

Ya I'm salty but itll be nice to see other teams do well like NYI, CAR, FLA and BUF.

I still guarantee the Penguins win a cup without Crosby and Malkin before the Flyers do.

You're probably going to have to wait for 4-5 years before this happens.

with 4 lines of 4th line quality players? Doubtful.

Murray is consistent enough and your D core is average too. One more hit on Crosby- hes done.

That's not a nice way to talk about the Flyers.

Seeing how you seriously believe this, I really don't think it's worth the effort to point out that a massive chunk of their team is 27 or younger and that the Penguins have the same average age as the Flyers for this year.

I love when people say ignorant stuff like this when you have very recent examples to the contrary. The Pens have played most of THIS season without 4 of their top 9 forwards (including Malkin). The guys that filled in from the AHL squad were able to seamlessly fit right in. And they did that while playing a D-man at forward for multiple games!

People have been bashing on the Pens prospect pool for years, when in reality, they don't win either of those B2B cups without that pool (Sheary, Rust, Guenztel, etc.)

But you keep living in that dream world of yours, bruh.

Sorry but when McCann is potentially your best prospect/under 23er..doesnt say much. He is at best a second liner. If Joseph can get better at defense he could be a good player.

Not a very attractive future. Sorry not sorry.

I don't think it's wrong to say that the Penguins have "one of the worst prospect pools", but you can't just ignore the fact that the Penguins keep churning out very good under the radar players despite having a weak prospect pool. Back in 2015, I bet people also said the Penguins had a "weak" prospect pool. From that group, they've gotten a #1 goalie (Murray), a 1st line winger (Guentzel), a fringe #2/3 D (Dumoulin), 2 fringe 2nd/3rd line wingers (Rust and Simon), multiple 3rd line players (Blueger, Sundqvist and Sheary), 2 good backup goalies (Jarry and DeSmith, although I'm not sure if DeSmith was in their system at that point) and a couple other depth players (Archibald, Pouliot, Sprong, Kuhnhackl, Lafferty and Wilson). They've also continued to add young players/prospects with acquiring guys like Kahun, Pettersson, Marino, ZAR and McCann.

The Penguins have been churning out young players for like 5 years now, despite them having a proclaimed "terrible prospect pool" in every year. They don't have a flashy prospect pool because they are consistently a playoff team and trade a lot of picks/prospects, but they're producing a ton of NHL talent. It's more likely that their prospect pool is constantly underrated, where guys like Guentzel, Dumoulin, Pettersson and Marino are criminally overlooked, than for them to actually have a terrible prospect pool. They get great results out of the picks and players they have, even if their pool is bad on the surface.

It is so blatantly obvious that people aren't watching the Penguins this year  regardless of their record they are actually playing well. As a fan I really can't complain about a whole lot right now

Fear of them will amp up when the playoffs come.

i cant stand flyers fans like that ^. im from philly and most fans are honest and know the flyers suck and are in the same position they were 8 years ago. flyers will never win a cup w giroux. all they can hang their hats on is a 1st round playoff win against pens, meanwhile pens win stanley cups.

Food for thought :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Some one that watches/studies prospects more than the majority of people here. Penguins at 28/31 farm rankings.

Pronman: 2019-20 NHL farm system rankings

Pronman also said Sprong was the 4th best prospect in hockey, and he passed through waivers this year. Those rankings also ignore the fact that the Penguins have a ton of young talent in the NHL right now.
