Those posters could also be correct. St L was dead last 1/2 way through last season. Lots of hockey to be played and teams in the metro should start figuring themselves out.Lots of talent was added to the metro in this off season.I don't have a crystal ball so usually avoid early predictions.

Again, why are you arguing as though I'm saying they're wrong or that the Pens are a lock? I was simply responding to someone who was questioning if those predictions even existed.

Ya that’s silly logic.

The Pens fell off the last couple seasons because JR went insane and got away from the philosophy Sullivan preached in his quest for size and toughness.

The Pens could most certainly compete for the cup again, but it all depends on a half crazed GM not self-sabotaging his team.

Only a fool would try and predict what could happen with the Pens because JR is so bipolar.

Half crazed.... but definitely half GENIUS

Some hockey nerd tried to tell me that Quinn Hughes is elite defensively today, so I understand how you feel. Penguins have looked great by the way. Very good game against Avalanche the other night.

i feel there players come out of no where when there known prospects end up being bust.

Pens haven’t had any “legit” prospects for years because of trading away all of their firsts so can’t really say their legit guys bust.

I think their last real bust was Pouliot from ‘12...

Half crazed.... but definitely half GENIUS

And you never know which half is on the phone with other GMs...

...and does his crazy half call his genius half and try to make trades with himself?

You're really going to sit here and tell me that if Malkin was in the lineup with Crosby right now you'd be a guaranteed playoff team?

Take off the homer glasses, man

It is genuinely amazing that you think that saying "a team that has never missed the playoffs with Crosby and Malkin is a guaranteed playoff team with Crosby and Malkin" is a homer statement. It's truly mind boggling. That's like a basic logic statement, not a "homer" statement.

The Penguins are a guaranteed playoff team until they miss the playoffs, calling them anything else than that is just nonsensical.

Lost 3 in a row now

With 4 of the top 9 forwards out, and your number 2 defenseman.

What team do you expect to compete night in and out with all of that happening?

How about we wait for 2 weeks when everyone is back before all the haters start the “they won’t make the playoffs” shit again?

I never really cared too much if a team was dominating pretty hard in hockey when it comes to winning cups usually because the game is played in a series where you can overcome bad calls. Its not like the NFL where the refs have obvious bias for some teams and will constantly throw flags to help a certain team and all it does is feel like some shit show where one team is getting the calls 90% of the time.

The Pens are exceeding my expectations.

I think Crosby, Malkin (just prior to injury, obviously), Letang, etc... the old guard... are pumped, realizing that there are only a few chances left, and are playing on fire. And it's infected the team. They are working hard, making things happen.

We'll see how 'the old farts' fair, as the season progresses, I guess. I predict similar to last year, but they go past round 1.

Big concern this year was Kessel’s departure and if other players could step up.

Once we get rid of the dead weight on D we should be a very solid team.

Hard to tell with all the injuries whether they've replaced (at least somewhat) Kessel's offense thus far. Offense has been hard to come by lately, but again, with so many guys out it's not a big surprise.

As far as the dead weight on D, I'm not entirely sure how soon that will be. JR seems "content" to stick with what we have, but maybe losing these games and falling back near .500 will give him a sense of urgency again.

Crosby is amazing. Not to take anything away from the rest of the team but Crosby is nothing short of a generational talent who inspires all around him. I've said it before and I'll say it again, If you're a true fan of the game you better appreciate what you're seeing right now because he's about as close to a playing legend that most of us will ever see in our lifetime.

They had a great 2nd period after going down 3-0 against a team preparing for their 3rd game in 4 nights.

I don’t mean to take away credit, they looked amazing in the 2nd period. Men against...boys might be too nice to the Bruins.

But there sure was a lot of chest thumping for winning a period in a game they lost last night.

Winning a period? The Penguins were playing with Boston for the first 20 minutes and then dominated the last 40. They hit multiple posts. Goaltending and a bit of puck luck was the difference in this one, but Murray is as steady as they come usually. The Penguins play like they did last night, which is to say to their strength (speed), they beat any team in the league 9/10 times. Boston scores three goals from the far perimeter; those just don’t usually go in.
