I dunno, I never got the feeling that the general consensus was for the pens to miss the playoffs.

I thought they were a playoff team heading into this season.

Sorry but when McCann is potentially your best prospect/under 23er..doesnt say much. He is at best a second liner. If Joseph can get better at defense he could be a good player.

Not a very attractive future. Sorry not sorry.

That's a pretty hilarious list of "prospects". It includes McCann who hasn't played a single second in the AHL since coming to the Pens last year. Yet it leaves off Marino who just got called up from the AHL a few games into this season (and has played extremely well, btw). And Pettersson is 4th on that list? Again, another full time NHLer, yet he's behind 2 guys that haven't played in the NHL at all.

Continuing down the arbitrary train, your age cutoff is 23. When they have Kahun, Lafferty, Blandisi, Johnson, Blueger, Simon, Guentzel and Galchenyuk are all 24 or 25. (yes I know most of those guys aren't "prospects", but then again, neither is McCann (or Pettersson), but they're on your silly list for some reason...)

I think it might be time to find a new source, bud. (POJ should be much higher, btw)

Has anyone else been astonished at how slow Geno is since he's come back. And making half-assed deke attempts, puck gets swatted away every time. He looks like me out there.

Technically about 90% of the hits are "unnecessary" in that sense. Hitting has always been part "separate player from puck" and part future deterrent.

Players that are worried about getting hit dump the puck off before they are ready and make mistakes. Pretending that's not one of the major objectives there is disingenuous at best

I think there was a funny stretch over the summer where the denizens of Hottaketown decided that the Rangers and Devils were suddenly brand new teams based on some new faces, and someone from the Metro would be pushed out. That was always a foolish position though.

Look at how many unremarkable lineups can be effective with good coaching and good buy-in. The Islanders, the Coyotes, even the Hurricanes fall into that category. Certainly good players on all those teams, of course, but it's the collective that makes them hard to beat. The Penguins with their army of Rust clones and Sullivan behind the bench are basically a team like that, plus Crosby and Malkin.

hopefully they'll land a high pick when crosby and malkin do retire like number 2 overall and draft someone better than nolan patrick tho

Im not disagreeing with Nolan Patrick not producing like he should've. To the Flyers defense, he was the #2 prospect across all boards. They had no way of telling he wouldn't progress like a #2 pick should.

I thought he was the Pens best player against Boston last night.

I think I've heard that line for the past 6 years...

Its a logical statement. Dude has had how many concussions now? Anymore he could seriously be threatening his brain and overall health. Obviously would never wish that, but its something to be cautious of.

As long as they have Sid and Gino they will be a threat until Sid hits 40.

Thank god those "Nerds" were so well hidden I didn't hear any of this. It's almost like the OP made it up in his head….

He ranked Penguins farm system as no. 30 before 2015-16 season, even saying that there wasn't anybody close for the 30th spot.

As you said it's just predictions but given his previous rankings he is not exactly good at predicting quality of Penguins prospects.

I can see Crosby trucking along for some time, but Geno and Letang don't seem like the kind of guys who are going to remain healthy or effective into their late 30s.

They're not the kind of guys who are going to remain healthy even in their early 30s. ....

Geno is not declining yet. May he decline sharply at some point in a few years, maybe. His line has been garbage for a few years now. Geno played some amazing hockey for stretches last year where he looked all-world. His linemates including Kessel were completely terrible. No-hands Hagelin played on his line for like 3 years.

The team has one true top line winger, Guetzel, and Crosby gets him because that’s how the team has always operated. Give Geno decent linemates and he puts up 100 points. I will bet anyone.

If the Penguins want to win a cup, build a line that works with Geno. Give him a legit top line winger that can play in 3 zones, and is a top talent in the league.

Trade multiple 1sts, prospects, Galchenyuk, Bjugstad and get a top line winger signed for 4 years. Make 4 cup runs.

Make Malkin happy. The guy has been dying alive on the 2nd line for a few years now.

The Islanders looked terrified last season with those dust pans.

New year. I'm sure they aren't scared now but if the pens have their shit together at the end of the season I wouldn't want to play them again if I was the Islanders.

Are you... asking us if... anybody is surprised... that a guy coming off the LTIR since the beginning of the season, looked slow in his first game back, while playing with a group of guys on a speed-centric team that is firing on all cylinders?
