TBH the fairgrounds is the only reason any of the Nascar drivers even wanted to come back to Nashville and basically most of them feel like they got hoodwinked when the date got moved out to the " new " track. The only reason they pushed for a race in Nashville was for the old fairgrounds so I gotta wonder just how much support keeping a race here would even have if its at the new track.

I'd rather see that area be a MLB park than a track. I have lived here my entire life and have never been to the fair grounds outside of a dirty flea market.

no Nashville is Braves Country
No Nashville is a decent mix of Braves, Reds and Cardinals. Last poll I saw Reds and Braves are pretty close edging out the Cards

That’s my old neighborhood, lol.

Used to have some good batting cages and a old school wooden roller coaster

I haven’t been to or watched an MLB game since the 94 strike that canceled the World Series. I’ll still watch college and high school baseball but the MLB can still suck it as far as I’m concerned.

There’s greed in every sport.
Yep. I don’t care about the greed between millionaires and billionaires. That year both the players and owners basically said “screw the fans” and I walked away from the game.

I walked away from the NFL a few years ago too. Having my whole Sunday back to spend outdoors with the family or by myself has been phenomenal.

But when the NHL did it for a full year it didn’t bother you?

I used to plan my days around MLB and NFL game (I had my favorite team but I watched every game I could get). I’ve never been that invested in the NHL I’ve been trying my best over the last 10 years to not let the NHL consume too much of my life.

It used to be, but the super leagues are getting closer and closer to an NFL style business every year. mid-major and FCS are still pretty decent though. Or maybe it's just me getting older and the mystique wearing off.
At least in the NFL there is a chance for some new blood to make some noise. You can skip the whole CFB season and just tune in to the SEC and Big 10 championship games.

Yep I prefer the NFL for that reason. There are some usual suspects like most sports but there is also parity so basically anything can happen. Plus I play a lot of fantasy football so that generates interest in even otherwise meaningless games. I can find a reason to watch basically any two NFL teams play each other. I can't even find much reason to go to my alma mater about 15 minutes from my house for cheap football games (MTSU).

I normally prefer college football, but, well, I'm a Buckeyes fan and the daughter and granddaughter of Buckeyes fans, so I'm kind of biased and privileged in that regard. (Memorable moment from my sister's ex in re: my oldest niece's early words and phrases: "She says 'Go Go Go Buckeyes' but she doesn't say 'please'?" ;) )

It still blows my mind how many ostensible fans of power teams freak out over the possibility of playing games against any decent-looking up-and-comer that might pose the slightest challenge. I mean up here I'm all like, "come the heck on, y'all; y'all are ostensibly fans of the Ohio State g-ddamned Buckeyes; what in the hell do you have to be afraid of? A loss in this season? We've got every season from now 'till the end of eternity to be competitive; we can afford it. You're backing a blueblood. Show a little backbone." :shakehead

Going to the fair was a big deal for us each fall in the 60's/early 70's -- we'd get out of school for it and the school would issue a couple of passes. Going to Fair Park in the summer was fun, too. You could take your report card and get a free ride for good grades or you could redeem RC Cola bottlecaps. I remember going to one race out there and to the batting cages, and there were concerts at the race track during the fair even into my 20's. I saw ZZ Top twice, bunch of southern rock bands, and whoever did Midnight Confessions, ha! I may have seen Alice Cooper there (fuzzy!) Cascades Pool was there, too, but I never went to that.

By the time I got in Highschool in the 90's the only students that could get out of school for it was AG students. Probably one of the reasons no one ever went then.

Right, not too many farms in Metro Nashville (though there were and still are some) and there were other things to do than go to a place that everyone knew was full of people trying to rip you off, from the carnival games to the other attendees! When I moved to Lewisburg we didn't get out for the fair but we did have an excused absence for haying and putting up tobacco. I did neither but I remember my friend Cande saying she learned to spit while curing tobacco. (Gross, but I probably shouldn't knock it til I've tried it)
