I was just gonna ask is 20 years all that stadiums are good for anymore. This just seems ridiculous.

Fenway Park and Wrigley Park say hi. Which makes me ask, when does the Preds say we want a new arena. Lease ends in 2049!

While 2049 is over 25 years away, and lots of things could happen between now and then, the Preds will do whatever they need to do to keep Bridgestone up to date and modern.

They love having that Broadway footprint. They generate money for downtown with locals coming down before the game and they can even draw in extra tourist dollars to the arena.

Bridgestone has much better bones than the football stadium. Not to mention the best location in town.

I haven’t looked into the bones of either but I can’t imagine what would cost 1 m in excess annually to maintain. I haven’t been underneath the stadium to the offices but it’s a fairly basic structure albeit a little close to the river.

I don't really know what I am talking about but....

Bridgestone is much smaller overall than Nissan, that alone has to make it easier/cheaper to maintain.
Bridgestone hosts a hell of a lot more events each year than Nissan which brings it a lot of revenue.

I know a little something about the industry, but I've not toured the buildings enough to know in detail. I'd guess because of the chiller plants for the ice, and climate control in general I'd say Bridgestone is much more expensive to maintain but again, I don't know enough about what's in the core operations of Nissan stadium to be able to give an informed opinion.

The information is out there regarding the structures. I'm not an expert just going by what was stated regarding the way that Nissan stadium was built very cheaply, mainly a concrete structure, and the renovation costs will be crazy. I don't know the itemization or specific timing outlay of the $1.8b estimated repair/reno cost but I do know the current contract leaves the city on the hook for that since whoever made the initial contract decided to reference that the city is responsible for providing/maintaining a "first class stadium" (paraphrase).

For the new stadium, the majority of the $2.1b is being paid by the Titans, NFL, and PSLs. Since I rarely go to Titans games it doesn't really matter to me. But I'll definitely be at every other major event they have at that new stadium if it interests me.

The thing is this isn't just about the old stadium or the new stadium. This offers up an opportunity to get an amazing new stadium and opens up all of that area close to the riverfront for additional development. I'll bet that area will be awesome once all of this is done and it will be one of the few stadium projects that has an overall positive impact on the city and state.

I didn't seen specifics in the articles just price tags. I've never managed a stadium, I have no idea what the structure even needs but I can't imagine what would cost 100M a year to upgrade and maintain.

That initial report talked about the land itself I believe and that the foundation was so poor that it would have to be redone.

Well first we have to settle on the definition of "first class stadium". This doesn't have details but I guess given the quoted price tag it will cost 1.75 - 1.9b to meet whatever that definition means. Or of course the definition can be twisted however they need to get a new stadium.

According to the city, this proposal benefits city taxpayers by ending the lease agreement for the current Nissan Stadium. Right now, Nashville is legally obligated to provide a "first-class" stadium until 2039.

With hefty renovation needed, the team was facing a $1.75 to 1.95 billion price tag to keep up the stadium over the remaining 17 years of the Titans contract.

Adz, you are the one reason I can accept this result with some equanimity, because I knew it would make your week. Now, next weekend will be a different story.
Ha ha! Thanks for the support!
It's been a LONG time.
Sure, I get that.
Do you watch SEC Shorts and the Matt Mitchell SEC comedy routines after each weekend? They are hilarious and worth watching if you're a fan of ANY team in the SEC.

Late to the party and seeing the Nashville news in a waiting room (Not in the local television market).... the Titans need a new stadium? 2 Billion dollars?

Really? Where are they going to put it and are they putting in a hopefully MLB ready stadium as well?

Any chance we get a new arena? Ours is what, at least five years older than the stadium and you would think would get more butts in seats on an annual basis.
Preds have been doing fairly major renovations every year and it's indoors so the elements don't wear it down quite as quickly as a stadium. I went to the Sharks arena last spring and it was showing its age where Bridgestone doesn't look new but it doesn't look old, either. They were built 3 years apart. There's a reason why Bridgestone gets all the accolades it does--the management keeps it up!

The Super Bowl committee wants a domed or retractable stadium that can seat 70,000+ unless it's a city with temps over 50 degrees. We're around that, but not over. Nashville seems to want a Super Bowl so this is a requirement that has to be fulfilled. The other requirements have been slowly addressed as the city grew-- more hotels, more taxis (Uber apparently counts), internet requirements, etc. Do we "need" a new stadium? For watching the Titans, maybe not, but for anything beyond that we do.

Nashville is a destination city and this is overdue imo. Having a roof will open up a lot of different events to come here. Retractable Roofs are the only way to go now.

I agree we need the roof. They are not doing a retractable.
