OT: The Other Sports Thread Part X

ut had a tough time being in the spotlight on the road. Would love to see them play Georgia again but doubt that’s in the cards. Just need to win out and that should at least guarantee the Sugar Bowl.
Yep Georgia was just better and our guys clearly weren’t used to playing that big of a game on the road with all of the false start penalties. Now to take care of business and let the cards fall where they may.

If Clemson and Bama both lose(both are trailing) UT will be 4 next week. Even if Bama wins kinda hard to justify putting them ahead of UT

On another note, the MLS championship was decided by PKs.

That is just garbage. Glad the NHL makes you play OT in the playoffs

I don’t know about that, Despite the fact the committee doesn’t seem to like TCU, they have a pretty impressive record. That said, LSU’s win over Bama means it doesn’t really matter. I can’t see the committee picking 1-loss non-champ Michigan over UT, or Bama/LSU/Clemson even if they are conference champs. UT’s worst case scenarios are an undefeated TCU and an undefeated Michigan (and I could still see them getting in for either or both of those) or they blow it.

with Clemsons loss if UT wins out the only scenario where they dont make the playoff is if Georgia loses to a one loss LSU. Although I suppose Michigan narrowly beating OSU might make it a tough call.

If LSU beats Georgia, UT is in. That would give them two wins against final top 10 teams (probably 3 if Bama beets Ole Miss) including the SEC champ. Btw, LSU has two losses (UT and FSU). I think the worst case is:
1: undefeated Georgia
2: undefeated Michigan
3: undefeated TCU
4: 1-loss Ohio State
5: 1-loss UT
I will qualify that by saying I would see 3-5 as a total toss-up.

Not sure why I thought LSU only had 1 loss... I guess because they were ranked 10th

A 1-loss PAC-12 champ (especially if it’s USC) would make things complicated too. The committee has shown in the past they value winning conference championship games so the lack of one could end up hurting UT. I’d really be interested to see what happens if LSU upsets Georgia too. The two losses is tough for LSU but they would have just beaten what will likely be the consensus #1.

So many hypothetical scenarios right now but it feels like something unexpected happens and it mostly works out. After so many years of Vol fandom I’m not yet ready to take it for granted we don’t drop one of these last 3. Really hope we can win them all and win big to get some style points.

Should have a little clarity after today whether the Titans are legit or just the least bad team in a really bad division

This is why I look forward to playoff expansion in the cfp. It doesn’t even have to expand all that much to get past the teams that there is no point in debating.

If Malik is starting I don’t think we can deduce too much. But to be honest I think regardless of the qb it’s the ‘least bad team in a really bad division’.

Man silly auto merge. Two completely different reference points got merged here.

Well, with the Packers losing to the Lions(including Rodgers with 1st down inside the 20 and throwing 4 incompletions to seal the loss)
I think we can pretty much declare the Brady/Rogers eras over.

And damn when did the Jets get good?

Disappointing end for the Titans but did have a chance to win. Malik Willis is terrible though.

Is he that bad or do they just have him so hamstrung he doesn't have that many options to start with? I didn't get to watch the game so I'm not sure how much is on him personally and how much is on the coaches.

No he has terrible decision making. He got sacked twice in OT running around

It's almost as if it was his second career start on the road in arguably the most hostile enviornment in the NFL.

It's not on the coaches. It's on Jon Robinson for trading away the best WR in franchise history.

Well and doing about as poorly as you can do in the draft. His drafts alone in recent years would have gotten him run out of town in lots of places.

Downing is one of the worst coordinators in the nfl.

Robinson did have some below average drafts, especially during Covid but he's found some gem's too. Byard, Simmons, Henry, Brown, Jonnu, Brown, Landry, Fulton, Hooker, Long Jr, etc. I think this years draft is going to be good. While Willis looked awful the 2nd half, how would he had looked if either one of the well thrown deep balls were actually caught? How would that had changed the game? Make no mistake though, the play calling and putting Henry on the sidelines were just as effective as Willis' passing game was overall.

Yeah, this was just terrible.

Yeah now look at post 2019, it gets pretty ugly in a hurry, especially in the early rounds where you need to hit.

After spending years ranting about my hatred of the CFP's habit of including multiple SEC teams, seeing a plausible scenario in which there's one SEC and two B1G teams - with my Buckeyes being the extra - really, really messes with my head.

That expanded playoff can't get here soon enough.
