Basically the state is saying we will give you money as long as it can he used for stuff other than football. Makes sense to me.

Not just "stuff other than football". It's all about the super bowl. When Nashville gets a domed stadium, the super bowl will be here within 2-3 years and that is huge for the city.

Any word on where they would build it?

In the parking lots next to the current stadium (between the stadium and the interstate), then the current stadium would come down and presumably some mix of parking and other amenities would go into that space.

I saw this earlier. Hefty price tag and it doesn't even have a dome. (Unless I'm not properly consuming that concept photo)

How the league gets repaid and how much of its money is potentially "forgivable" gets mentioned but few, if any, details of how the revenues generated go to repaying the taxpayer contribution are provided.

So for over a decade I have heard Vol fans telling us Vanderbilt fans “Baseball don’t matter”. Now since April of last year they seem to know all about the sport and are talking huge trash to Vanderbilt fans about being the #1 team in the Nation this year. This weekend is going to be miserable for Vanderbilt fans unless the VandyBoys sweep.

Half a billion from here, half a billion from there, and eventually you're talking real money.
Paraphrasing Senator Everett Dirkson?

I saw the current stadium yesterday. What is wrong with it? Too old? Not enough club seats or luxury boxes? Seats are too cheap?

That’s not a vols thing. That’s a college sports thing. Super annoying though for sure.

For whatever reason they seem to only last about 20 years anymore. Great technological advancement we've made in construction.

Nashville has become a much more nationally known destination. As @Jonesey mentioned, a multipurpose enclosed facility would likely make Nashville a destination for major sporting events. I just wonder if a retractable roof facility would make the option of an MLB team more likely

Part of it is how long the facilities "last" ... part of it is every team wants the shiniest structure that might get the big special event once every 10-20 years ... part of it is that the teams are just tenants with no real financial tie to the buildings so they can pressure the landlords into upgrades/rebuilds.

There was an era from like the late 60's into the 90's where arena and stadium construction got really bad. The buildings were designed and built quickly and cheaply and all of them needed to come down in 20-30 years.

There was a shift toward more sustainable projects though and Nashville is a strange case. Bridgestone is a building that was designed to last. It's meant to be updated over time and is still looking good into the foreseeable future.

Nissan on the other hand, which is actually a couple years newer, was built on the cheap and was mostly outdated on opening day. They've put as much lipstick on that pig as they can get.

The next stadium should be a lot better and last a lot longer.

I think mixed use stadiums for football and baseball are pretty much a thing of the past at this point. There aren’t any left with the Raiders moving to Vegas and I doubt the MLB expands here without having a dedicated stadium. Hell even the MLS required Nashville to have its own stadium planned before they’d give us a franchise.

100%. I promise, structurally that building is perfectly fine. They just want these new super suits built in and way more technology. So much has changed in those worlds in the last 20 years that it makes it tough to just upgrade..

for the first time ever, I'm pulling for the big orange. Drew Beam and his family are good friends of ours, he still talks a lot to my son, even last night giving my son tips on pitching. Drew is a cut above. Outstanding kid, with an incredible future ahead.

How did Corbin let him get out of Middle TN. No way a Gallatin kid should not be at Vanderbilt.

SEC Championship Game in Nashville would be possible with a Domed stadium. New Baseball Park, New Football stadium and Nashville already hosts the Basketball Tournament regularly We could get the SEC to move several things to Nashville especially with Oklahoma and Texas joining.

It may be fine (I have no idea if it is or not) but holy **** was it unsettling as hell sitting in the upper deck during the Bengals game. You could feel the ground beneath you sway when swaths of fans jumped up and down to cheer during the few big plays of the game. I'm being dramatic, but for a moment it felt like we were on a boat. It's probably designed to do this (bend, don't break like skyscrapers? idk) but I did nooootttt like it.

Beam is from Murfreesboro, Burns is from Gallatin. So that's 2 of your weekend pitchers, both freshmen, both killing it.
Neither should be at Tennessee. I am shocked at Vanderbilt’s roster not having many Middle Tennessee kids on it. David Price, Sonny Gray, Bryan Reynolds, ect all Middle Tennessee kids. Maybe it was Covid but Corbin is not getting local kids and Coach Arrogant is reaping the benefits.

Yet among the reasons given to justify a new facility include leaks through the concrete. The "it's falling apart" schtick is common when teams want a new facility. Meanwhile privately owned Wrigley has bricks falling into the stands.

A crazy idea is that a conference championship or a Super Bowl is possible in an outdoor facility. The halftime show and trophy presentation should be secondary to the game ... and used to be once upon a time. There is a correlation between teams finding public funding rather than paying for their own facilities and the ever increasing demands on what those stadiums should have.

And Beam played his high school games on David Price Field.
In a couple years, Carter Gregory will also be pitching at UT, but his dad played football there. That kid is also a beast, 16 years old and will likely hit 90 mph before the season is out. In fairness he's already a grown man at 6'3" 215lbs.
