Dayton played their way out of the tourney by losing to Richmond in the A10 semi-finals. They beat the Spiders on the road on March 1 by 2 points. The Flyers beat #1 seed in the A10 Davidson in their last game of the season. Richmond knocked out VCU, whom Dayton had defeated twice by 20 points. VCU would have been a much easier game, so the Spiders are for real.

Dayton is the #1 alternate if a team can't play due to COVID-19. I hate to see them back into the tourney. They should have won over Richmond as they led 9-2 and held the lead until the last 6 or 7 minutes of the game. They got outscored 20 to 12 at the end of the game and lost 68-64.

It is hard to believe that this was the same team that went toe-to-toe with Kansas and beat the then #4 team at the time in a dogfight.

The Vols will kill Longwood. The Vols can beat Michigan. I haven't seen Colorado State play. I think that Loyola beats Ohio State and Villanova crushes Delaware. Villanova looks pretty good to me. The Vols need to win to get to the Elite Eight.

Let's play blind resume:

Team A:
Net 13
Ken Pom 12
SOS 67
Q1 wins 6
Q2-4 losses 4

Team B:
Net 8
Ken Pom 7
SOS 4
Q1 wins 11
Q2-4 losses 0

So ya got for the higher seed among these two teams??? Pretty clear, right??
TEAM A is Duke
TEAM B is Tennessee

I am a lifelong Bama fan so I HATE TENNESSEE- LOL. But I hate stupid stuff and this as stupid as it gets

How can anyone with a functioning brain have Duke as a 2 and Tennessee a 3. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. (And I could also do the same with Auburn's resume- Tenn also blows it away.)

I would love to hear the "committee" give even one reason for it.

I hate these stupid games the committee plays. Setting up UK vs Murray St in round 2. I know the Racers would relish the chance but it's still so contrived.
I actually like that kind of game. Ohio State ducked Dayton from 1934 to 1985 and then lost to them in the NCAA tourney 8 years ago, 26 years from their previous meeting in 1988. The Buckeyes have this idea that they have a "Big Time" program and Dayton is the "Little Sisters of the Poor". The season record is 3-2 OSU.

OSU didn't play Cincinnati for 40 years, so they have a history of being chickens when it comes to in state teams.

I hope that the Racers win against Kentucky!

Coach K's last season? Duke doesn't need any help. Even in a down season they are good for 2 wins.

Racers have to get there first and you always worry about looking ahead in a situation like this.

And as much as I'd like to see a 9th UK title, if the matchup happens I'll be rooting for Murray State all the way.

Freddie Freeman- GONE

I am stunned- time to process- lol
Braves ownership being cheap or what? Olson will be a free agent soon and you just gave up 4 of your top 15 prospects. freeman must be looking at a massive pay day from LA.

Sad day.

There's a decent shot that Freeman is only good for 2-3 years out of the 6 he'll get. He turns 33 late in the season. So even if they don't resign Olson, they should get equal or better production those two years (Olson is a better defender), plus whoever they can sign with the extra $20 million or so, plus financial flexibility 2+ years down the road vs. paying $30 MM to (at that point) a likely average bat-only 1B/DH.

So Braves (in theory) get 2 years of 2021 Freeman-level production plus whatever $20MM can buy, plus 4 years of not tying up $30MM on a declining player.

Braves give a good defensive OF that still has to prove he can hit, one of the best minor league catchers, a hard throwing prospect that might not end up a starter, and a "knows how to pitch" prospect who doesn't have a big ceiling. Which is still a lot.

I think it makes sense. But it also sucks. But the contention window gets a lot narrower when you start handing out Albert Pujols-type deals.

Yep, agreed. If you remove the emotion from this whole thing (which is impossible to do)- from a pure baseball standpoint, this is a great move by the Braves. At this time, Olson is at the very least the equal player to Freeman, and soon will probably be better. And he is a hometown kid to boot.

I'm sure Olson is on cloud nine coming back home, but I am not sure I would want to be in his shoes- there is going to be tons of pressure on him to produce at Freeman-type levels. If he doesn't, oh man, I would not want to be him......

Losing Freeman f***ing hurts as a Braves fan. Not just from an on-field perspective but what he meant to the team off the field cannot be replaced. He was the heart and sole of Atlanta baseball for many, many years. This just sucks all around.

Judge ruled Minor leaguers are MLB employees and owe $$$. And you wonder WHY the MLB dissolved a bunch of minor league clubs...

If online gambling had been legal in Kentucky I would have made a buttload of money on KY losing tonight. This happened the last time the NCAA tried to set up an in state matchup.

My god. That upset has to be up there with mtsu vs Michigan state.
Or Mtsu over Kentucky. Or UAB over Kentucky. I'm telling you it happens every time the NCAA tries to arrange for UK to play someone they have been avoiding

Yep, they tanked to avoid a loss to an in state team!

I never dreamed that the Wildcats would not advance to that game!
I know you roll your eyes and I know they didnt lose on purpose. But way back before Kentucky and Louisville started playing regularly, the NCAA tried to force it by setting up a second round matchup with Louisville but Kentucky lost to Middle Tennessee

I’ve been wondering how it’s possible that I don’t remember MTSU beating UK. I mean I went to school at MTSU in the 90s. Was actually a UK fan. What the heck?

Yeah it was in 1982. My memory is not as bad as I was starting to think!

Racers! Racers! Holy crap that game was intense. I thought they were going to pull a Preds and go full flaps at the end. They have some exciting players but that dude from San Francisco was off the hook!
