I'm one who will click on the "Searched" function on EP's website to see folks I do not know and figure out why others are searching on them. Some are easy - trades, someone scored a goal, etc...

Today? Today's list had someone who when I clicked on it, was marked as deceased, DOB in 2008. A quick search... he went missing two days ago. I find this so incredibly sad.

So, we went to the hospital to visit our friend on Saturday afternoon. It was tough to see her lying there being kept alive by a respirator and a dialysis machine given how full of life she usually is. It was also tough to see the impact it had on my wife and her husband.

Yesterday was a mixed bag of updates. In the morning, her uncle came to church and gave an update that was not great during prayer time. Then later in the day, her husband sent out a text update that was more hopeful.

This whole situation has been weighing heavily on me, along with some other stuff I have been carrying over the past couple of months. Tomorrow I am going to get coffee and talk with a trusted advisor/mentor to help me work through how to deal with something that I have been carrying and I need advice on what to do with it.

Not fun.

I did have a good short conversation with Nate on Saturday. He said that the new DC is being given more autonomy to run things over the coach they had last spring. And Nate has been running with the 1s when they do 6 on 6 drills. He also talked about how he has been watching video with the coaches more than the other three goalies and he's been more open to changing up what he does based on what the coaches want. As a former soccer & hockey coach, I loved to hear that.

Managed to get Thompson and Dahlin in my fantasy hockey draft. 8th overall pick, Thompson was my 1st round pick and Dahlin was my 2nd. ESPN had Thompson rated quite high, he was right around the 8th spot.

It was tough taking Thompson over Jack Hughes but my fantasy league also values blocks and hits and Tage does that a little more.

Anyways I named my fantasy hockey team Dahl Lundren's with the motto, if they die, they die.

Haven't seen that name around.

Turns out SN1 has Game One Vs. NYR. Was planning on starting my pre-Christmas health regimen but now I think a few smit'icks and some turkey curry with naan and samosas may be in order that night.

Canadian Thanksgiving was this past weekend. I usually don't bother with a big meal but made the family a decent spread, and tried out an amazing recipe for roasted potatoes. They were a big hit. I'll dig up the recipe if anyone is interested.

Did you parboil the potatoes with vinegar before roasting them? Adds an amazing soft inside with the crispy outside. Also the slight tinge of vinegar is perfect.

Fried some garlic and rosemary in saltwater duck fat, strained and tossed the spuds in the infused oil, roasted for an hour turning once, then tossed in salt, pepper and parsley. Served with turkey, gravy, stuffing, carrots and broccoli. Earned a round of applause.

5. Pretty sure there are ways to mix in some red, green, etc., nodules with that.

So I grew up in foster care (went in to it when I was 4), and I just found out that the people that raised me are moving. I get it, because they’re moving closer to their kids, grand kids, and great grandkids, but it’s a surprise. It’s still a surprise to me, because there was never a hint about it. It’s weird, because once I moved out on my own they stopped talking to me, but it’s still a surprise. At this point I figure I’ll see them at their funeral.

My wife worked for the US Fish and Wildlife service for over 20 years... (recently retired)... she was always working with Customs Inspectors at the various ports/airports. You would not believe the shit people try to smuggle into the US. And how they did it. And what they were planning to do with it. And how amazing it is that we aren't all overrun with plants/animals/insects that could kill you.

I am, in general, anti-large government and pro-small government, including subsidiarity and solutions at the lowest / local level. However, I fully recognize the value and therefore strongly support those two branches, and for the stated reasons / examples you gave above.

I had a collegiate teammate from Guam. Decades ago he explained the problems from the Brown Tree snake hitchhiking on airplanes and cargo ships from Guam to Hawaii and the decimation of the native bird populations on those islands. The snakes in turn lack predators.

After my in-laws retired and moved to Orlando, I teased my MIL that she could follow in this woman's footsteps if she wanted something to do.

At the end of August, I shipped two new lacrosse goalie heads to Nate's usual stringer and one to another stringer that is really popular with a lot of pro and D1 guys.

The two from his regular stringer showed up on 9/11.

The one from the new guy showed up today.

What was your best scrabble word?

My wife and I play a few games a week (typically while watching TV or while on devices (for work or personal tasks).

I have a lot of luck making 50-point bonus words which use all 7 letters from the rack. I've had a couple games with more than one such word. I also like filling in gaps to make the words more like crossword puzzle blocks, sometimes eschewing higher point totals to "densify" the filled tiles in the grid.

I caught flack during Bills-Giants for using all my letters to play "fiefdoms" with the "m" being placed in front of "aim" to make "maim".

A month or so ago we created a new rule that if a blank tile was played, subsequently either player on any future turn could replace the blank with the letter it represented and keep the blank for their own (re-) use again later. No points are scored and the turn is essentially a "pass" as the blank becomes the equivalent of the drawn tile from the bag. After last night's game, my wife decided that "replace a blank" rule is now revoked.


Before the football game, I proposed bonus points be allowed for spelling football related words / terms, but she wouldn't go for that.

Since I became old in september I gave myself a fat tv, laserdisc, amp and megadrive/genesis as a birthday present. Sort of went on a genesis spree and decided I then had to finish one game at a time. Altered beast was simple enough but then I went for NHLPA 93. It's one of EA's early titles and it has blood and fighting in it. No one timers.

To follow my own rule I had to win the cup with the Sabres and it turned out to be really, really hard. I lost in the 7th ot against St Louis in the cup final after Darren Puppa let in a shot from center ice among other things.

Mogilny was my only useful winger but he kept getting into fights while May and Ray did nothing.
My PK guy Randy Woods waved his stick around like an adult filmstar and was always in the box. Gord Donnelly had a frickin' 18 overall rating and as soon as he hit the ice the opposition had an automatic breakaway.

Finally managed to win the cup when I made it to my 4th final beating Gretzky's Kings 3-2:

Over the last week, I had a situation that made me question my self-awareness and what people think of me.

Yesterday, I talked with someone about it and they said they didn't think I was a big a-hole. And it turns out what happened was way more about other people than me and stuff I had done.

And then today I got feedback from one of my professors on a self-assessment: You are a bit hard on yourself, but fairly accurate in your strengths and areas that you wish to polish.

So, I am no longer worried about my self-awareness right now.

The more I know about women, the more I realise I don't know squat.

Last week I had a nagging cold, this one girl continually contacted me to see how I was, if I needed anything etc. Thursday I stop by her bar before work as it's charity raffle and she completely blows me off.

Saturday I walk by her place with an absolute stunner and the bamboo telegraph info's her so my phone blows up with I'm a bad man etc

My Tuesday morning I boot her out at 6am to watch hockey, get the bad man she hates me etc

Wednesday morning aka 3am ish she's calling and wants to come over with her roommate. Boot them out about 2pm as needed my routine.

Today comes over, spends about 2hrs then says she never wants to see me again. Now getting the line messages about wanting to come back over with her roommate again.

Captain Boomerang in the Suicide Squad was right about the crazies. I have enough certifiables in my bars, don't need the innocent looking, next door girl type making my life crazy
