For those that like visuals, this is the list of 13 potential moves that Joe sent out to his Substack and I am guessing they are the same exact 13 options he talked through on today's podcast.

NFL Combine week starts today.

McDermott talks to the media at 4pm today and Beane talks to the media at 2pm tomorrow.

Of those:

-Daquan Jones can wait till this summer
-Not sure who you are replacing David Edwards with for less than 4M.

Given all the starters on expiring deals in 2025, I won't be shocked if they avoid any post-6/1 cuts or trades that would push significant dead cap into 2026.

And Edwards is an option because the cap savings is so big. It will all come down to what Kromer is saying. This will carry a ton of weight as Edwards is the only OL that had prior experience with Kromer and is most certainly one of "Kromer's guys." So, if Kromer tells Beane that Alec Anderson or Tylan Grable is ready to step in at LG, I think they could choose to move on from Edwards.

But, I would probably expect an Edwards extension to keep him in 2026 might be more likely given how well he played in 2024 and his relationship with Kromer.

And Joe (and the Cover 1 guys on their Cap Special) weren't saying the Bills would or should pull all these cap levers to clear space. These are just what they could do cap-wise.

My thought on Jones is that the savings is relatively little. We only have 3 DT on the roster currently.

Given the lack of depth at the position, good luck trying to leverage him into taking a pay cur from his $7.75M base salary in 2025.

I don't even know what kind of a conversion to a Not Likely To Be Earned incentive he would go for.

He is kind of like Elam to me. He's on the roster unless you are ready to trade him for a late day 3 pick swap just to get the cap savings and you think a rookie would be an upgrade.

I'm not sure they get there with Jones.

The post-6/1 trade or cut has the same 2026 impact as letting him play this year due to the void years on his deal.
 
Since Jones only has 2.25 of his salary guaranteed, I think there's room for a paycut. Current cap hit is 9.4. With a June 1 cut his cap hit 3.9. The gap between those numbers would be the sweet spot for a new salary. If they bumped his guaranteed salary up to 5 million, plus the 1.7 signing bonus, resulting in a 6.7 new cap hit, would that make sense to everyone? Bills save almost 3 million. Jones gets almost 3 million more guaranteed than he would if he's cut. Maybe tack on an incentive for a chance to earn some money back.

Question would be, would he rather be here for 5 million or take 2 from the Bills + whatever he can get on the market.

Also, cutting Edwards would shock me. He was perfectly fine and his cap hit is low for a starter. If anything, I could see them extending him by a year.

I would be surprised if Vandy was an option to kick inside to guard.

Alec Anderson would seem like the most likely candidate and Grable might be the frontrunner to replace Anderson as the primary 6th OL/Jumbo TE.

Depends on what is going on with Milano as well. If he is not retiring then you have him returning with Bernard, Williams, Ulofoshio. Although I think they need to move on from Spector.

Would certainly help the pass rush, but I would think Jerry will try and extend him.

If your likely going to chase one deal I still prefer the Garrett idea.

Coach McD Live in Indy


-Ryan Nielson's main focus will be the defensive line (interesting)
-Veteran experience was his main focus in adding Neilson and other new assistant coaches
-Very hard to get former coordinators, very high in demand
-Confirms interviews for new strength and conditioning coach, Ciano has gone to Jacksonville
-Health and safety is his main concern with players going forward (It's philosophical)
-Loves James (Cook), watching him develop, have success, business part will take care of itself (Brandon is on top of it).
-Big believer in speed, did it at times, probably not enough (on offense)
-Keon had an up and down year, rather rocky after injury, he's a good young man, who has to learn how hard it is to play in this league
-He watched the US v Canada hockey game the other night and enjoyed the personal stories of the players (was discussing Tommy Doyle's story-retired)
-Kincaid's main thing is his health and getting stronger and more durable as he plays like a big TE. Health became a tendency and pattern year 2, so they need to address it.
-Love Von did not play the victim, was positive with his mental side
-A lot of confidence Cole Bishop is wired the right way for the job, he has to win it though.

Same for Daquon and Trubisky.

Taron's on the books until 2029. We don't need to do anything to his contract other than start planning on life without Taron.

Knox is in a similar spot. He's on the books until 2028. It's time to start planning on life without Knox.

Did you miss that we have Jake Camarda under a futures deal? If he shows in workout that his yips have vanished......I think he's the favorite to be our punter next year. Dude was AWESOME in Tampa for 2 years before suddenly and inexplicably getting a case of the yips. Sam Martin is a thoroughly average punter. I've got ZERO issue going with Camarda as long as he shows he's back in workouts.

I'm also 100% fine with dumping Trubisky. We've got Mike White signed as our 3rd QB at a cap hit literally half of Trubisky's. White is a fine backup......maybe a small step back as a backup guy. But if Allen gets hurt, we're screwed whoever our backup us. So save a couple million there.

Martin wasn’t very good. Maybe he’s back on a pay cut but it would surprise me if he’s back at his current, much greater that vet minimum and non guaranteed, amount.

Same with Trubisky, who there is absolutely no way he’s back on his current contract, and is only coming back if he takes a pay cut to compete with Mike white for the spot.

As for Knox and Johnson, you don’t want to open up cap space? Knox in particular has a really bad one that it would be nice to bring down.

I guess mostly I don’t understand your resistance to cap clearing moves? You just want to more or less run back the same team?

RBs don't have that kind of trade value to normal GMs however they may have that kind to value to someone like Jerry Jones. He likes shiny things.
