Friedman: Brayden & Luke Schenn Combo

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
The Leafs for one of them could make a bit of sense (Brayden in particular) but not both. Their combined cap is over $9m so it would need retention on both and Nashville has one retention spot, with Nyquist the obvious player to use that on at the deadline.

St Louis retaining for multiple years seems unlikely also.

It all depends how much money the blues would be willing to take back.

You have to think one of Kampf or Domi would be going back for cap purposes.

I do think the Leafs do something fairly big either way.

As a red wings fan I want nothing to do with 6.5 x 3 more years for brayden. We are trying to get away from the copp and the comphers, not add more. I’d rather just try and sign Brock Nelson in the off season to a short term deal. As for Luke I mean yeah he’s an upgrade, but we are probably going to target younger guys. Justin holl is such a negative for us right now that getting someone who could potentially be another one of those for us is a huge risk.

I think Schenn has positive value with his current contract. I would bet he would get 6.5 and at least five years if he was a UFA this off-season. WIth the cap going up, he will be a positive player for the length of it.

Because of this, I don't see the Blues trading him as I don't think anyone hits them with a substantial enough offer. He's extremely versatile and will always have a role as he can move down the lineup if he slows. His attitude and leadership are of value to the Blues as well.

Vancouver. Organization loves the Schenns.
If Soucy went the other way it's actually quite feasable .

Not sure what the blues would want I wonder if Dak a 1st and a 3rd or 2nd? Or instead of Dak maybe Mynio or Kudriatzev (sp) and picks?
With how solid our D, goaltending and overall team defense is if we could just get a top six forward that clicks with EP or anyone really this team could do very well in tight checking playoff hockey.

Lekkerimakki - EP- Chytil/Schenn
Boeser- Schenn/Chytil- Debrusk
Sherwood -Suter- O'Connor
Hogz - Blueger- Raty/ Linus

Hughes- Myers
Marcus - Hronek
D-Petey - Schenn/ Forbort/ Mancini

He’s still better than Compher and Copp. If he was between DeBrincat and Kane instead of either Copp or Compher then wings have a legitimate 2nd line.
With the Cap rise, your $5-$6 million 3Cs will become the norm again, like they used to be. Schenn is the perfect guy to have in that role until Danielson, Lombardi or Kasper takes that spot for good, then he’ll move to 3C for the rest of his contract.

There’s also a Tarasenko part to look at here. Maybe Schenn also gets Tarasenko going.

Anyway, he’s a much better fit than Copp or Compher in that role. That said, McCann might be an even better fit but he’s also likely be more expensive.

With the turnover of Detroit’s roster this coming summer, adding both Schenn’s in those veteran roles, does make some sense. Plus they won’t have to spend stupid money July 1, and there’s going to be stupid money spent for sure.

I assume Detroit will also visit the Cozens thing and other younger fits too. They’ll also cost more too.

So we’ll see, but the Husso $5 million they gained today, makes the Schenn thing much more possible. Detroit and St Louis do like dealing with each other as well. When I had heard a few days ago that Detroit might be after Schenn, I shrugged it off because of the term, but Detroit can still handle some term before they have to pay Kasper and Edvinsson. So we’ll see.

Luke Schenn - Future captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Time to fulfill the prophecy. God knows Burke tried to get Brayden way back when

Vegas would be more likely here.

Vegas: Brayden Schenn (50% retained by St. Louis)
St. Louis: Nicolas Roy, Trevor Connelly, 2nd 2026, and 3rd 2025

Vegas: Luke Schenn
Nashville: 2nd 2025

No thanks to the Brayden contract. He is a more expensive Copp or Compher. We already have 2 similar players.

If the canucks can LTIR Pettersson and get both B.Schenn and then trade Soucy for L.Schenn then we get a lot better tbh maybe even contenders if Petey can bounce back to form after rehabbing his injury.
