The offseason begins

The best part is Shannon Sharpe claiming Toronto is a 20 minute cab ride, Keon telling him its not, Shannon saying he got in a cab in Buffalo and they told him it was in Toronto. Ocho asking him what he was going to Toronto for if you in town for a game in Buffalo, Shannon "doesn't remember"

Looks like Shannon went to the Canadian Ballet and they told him it was in Toronto

Well, Fort Erie is about 20 minutes from downtown without any bridge traffic :D

I would guess Niagara Falls but it's kind of funny he wouldn't remember that it was Niagara Falls and that the cabbie or someone said they were in Toronto. More non-local people seem to know the name Niagara Falls more than Toronto. The ballet is away from the water so it all makes sense. Seems more likely than Fort Erie but who knows. "We land, drop them bags off..." the difficult life of a NFL player on the road, lol.

Reading the tea leaves, you can just about pencil in a 1st round corner.
I'm not convinced yet. I think they will take a CB with one of the top 3 picks for sure, but it doesn't necessarily have to be the first rounder. I think they probably will have more confidence in Jackson than we as fans do if he has to be the day 1 starter.

DL is still very much in play for the first rounder. Value at safety might be there, but I'm not sure they'll invest a 1st rounder there after taking Bishop last year.

Anyone have a guess as to why McD and Beane don't use a big boy in the middle of their line? It seems like that philosophy has changed a bit because in Beane's first full offseason here he signed Star to a 5-year deal iirc. Why haven't they searched for that type of player again? I wasn't a fan of Star. Felt like he was overpaid, but it'd be nice to have an effective big boy to eat up space on the line.

I did a thought experiment this morning based on Joe Marino's episode yesterday where he looked at the players they have signed today, the usual number per position they have on the 90 man roster and where they will likely add players between now and training camp.

Not every one of the players they will add will be of the same level.

Some will just be camp bodies because they have a need on the 90 man roster, but they are set for the 53 and at starter. With 4 QBs signed, they are set for the 90 (they usually keep 3), the 53 (they usually keep 2), and at starter (MVP17).

They need OL for the 90, but are set for the 53 and starters. So, that is a place where all the additions will be camp body level guys.

The highest needs were the usual 3 of CB, DT, and DE all grading out the same overall.

Then you have TE, WR, S, and P with more depth needs that could be impactful guys (for punter it is needing someone to compete for the spot).

With Forrest and Hamlin signing, I think you could see them being happy with the safeties for the 53 and it would take a guy that sticks out on their board falling to them for them to take a guy there.

They like DTs that penetrate up the field and blow up pays in the backfield more than guys that just eat up space and let their LBs play downhill.

I'm more wondering if this was a philosophy change and why? Because they locked up Star on a pretty long-term contract early on in Beane's tenure, so it appears they valued those big bodied 3 techs at one point. I just wonder what changed their minds?

Star was 6'2" 315, so similar build to DaQuan Jones.

I don't think the CBs available at 30 are going to be reaches.

I think a trade down is going to be in play if Beane can find a taker. I look at the players available at 30 and I can see better fits at 35-40.
