The offseason begins

The hilarious part for me is that the Bills scored 53 more points than the Bengals last year and we still have fans and media that feel like the Bills need a big money Alpha WR1.

If last year didn't show people that you don't need a big name WR1 to have an elite NFL offense, nothing will.

For me, building the offense around QB1 and the OL is the way to go.
I’m not trying to score more regular season points than the Bengals. I’m trying to score one more point than KC in the playoffs. If this is the part where you tell me it’s easier to build a defense with no holes for Mahomes and Reid to exploit than add the one weapon they fall short with every single time…I’m going to politely disagree. I sure as shit know this coach is never going to outsmart them

They have way more room to improve on the allowing fewer points than scoring more points against KC in the playoffs.

Just look at the regular season vs playoff splits for Mahomes vs the Bills.

They need to get a DL that can pressure Mahomes in the playoffs more than they need another WR on offense.

DaQuon Jones is listed at 6'4" 320 and he does play a bit more of a penetrating style than a lot of NTs do.

Kenneth Grant is 6'4" 331 and is the guy that a lot of Bills fans would love at 30, or after a move up.

I have seen some people say that Oregon DT Derrick Harmon, who is 6'4" 313, might be more of a "Bills guy" in the DaQuan mold.

But, I do think Grant plays more athletically and might be a fit than your average 330+ DT.

So, it will be interesting to see both who is there in the 25-35 range and who the Bills like. Fans that want a bigger DT next to Oliver might want guys like Grant, Tyliek Williams, Alfred Collins, and Deone Walker. But, I am not sure they are the type of DT that fits with what the Bills like.

I also think that a bigger, run stuffing DT that can play two gaps could help the undersized second level the Bills have with Bernard, Milano, and Taron.
To be clear about my position, I think bigger DTs who can also rush the QB (e.g., Grant) are great. I'd be perfectly happy to add one of them. It's when people start talking about big DTs who are run stuffers only that I get worried about scheme fit/another Elam situation. I think we could have a guy like that in our rotation/for fronts with odd looks. But I don't see that type of player as a starter for us.

The Eagles won the Super Bowl with weapons, just sayin'

Maybe we get Hendrickson out of this although I dont see Brown trading with AFC

Eh, I think if you look at their roster, you check a few boxes that most super bowl champs have:

Strong O-line, Strong D-line, 1-2 strong drafts. You need key contributors on rookie contracts.

It was true of the Chiefs last 2 superbowls, it was true of the Eagles. The Rams followed a bit of a different footprint.

I think the most reliable blueprint is:

Top 10 QB
Strong Lines
Strong draft classes at expensive positions (WR/CB/DL)

We've never had an elite D-line. We've have elite secondaries (though, typically injured)

Probably the best talk about the McDermott Bills teams is that coaching staff is good enough to get the defense through the regular season, but in the playoffs, the elite QBs and coaching staffs can find the weakpoints and expose them in the playoffs. Mahommes and Burrow have done just that. Heck, Jackson drove down and would have tied the game late if not for Andrews dropped pass.

The number of takeaways by the Bills defense combined with improvement by Allen limiting turnovers were big factors in how many points the offense produced with advantageous field position. Let's hope both of these factors continue for the upcoming season and beyond.

- Shaunault is your Hollins replacement (who can also return), Palmer is your Cooper replacement per One Bill's Drive

- Texans extended Stingley (CB) 3/89M. Benford is not going to be cheap.

I don't think Allen's reduction in turnovers gets as much chatter in the off-season as it should. His improvement in decision making was the biggest difference in the Bills from 23-24. And if we remember, his shaky decision making early on in the AFC Championship game ended up being huge at the end.

More than weapons, Allen just needs to maintain his composure and Brady needs to keep calling a balanced offense. If the Bills do that, they'll win 12-14 games.

We talk D line so much for 1st round pick. Are there any corners in that 25-25 range that would fit nicely?

Per haps Like Der Jaerger said, maybe trade down a bit to 35, but then trade up into the 3rd or bump up one of their seconds to get another pick in the 40s.

On another note; I wonder what happens with Cook. I'm now leaning towards the Bills stick to their guns and he is forced to play out 2025 with no contract offer from the Bills. He can push for it, but the bottom line is he needs to accrue the season to find any future leverage.

I think it's very slim that he gets a low offer that he feels is acceptable.
Id also be fine with the Bills trading him and drafting his replacement in the ~3rd round.

That doesn’t really make sense to me at all. Hollins was a locked and loaded starter that finished 3rd among receivers in snaps and catches. He was most known for his A+ blocking. He can play X.

Shenault will be competing to even make the team. If he does, he’s Curtis Samuel and Shakir’s backup as a gadgety guy. He cannot play X.
