Why? Outraged people have social media to rant on now. We don't have to go back to the 90s when talk radio and writing to the newspaper was the only voice fans had.
This is something the station has been missing for years. IN oreder to get people listening they should be interacting with the fanbase when ever possible. They rarely do any giveaways, on location segments etc. I enjoyed the "game show trivia" they used to do and many people played. Not everyone cares for social media and when driving home and looking to hear some Sens talk it's nice to hear actual fans giving their opinions. Not all calls are going to be great but the ones that are make for better radio.

Because listening to callers is much more entertaining than listening to host constantly recycling thier thoughts and opinions every 30 minutes….

Yeah, that rally idea was a weird one. Credit to AJ, he was pretty respectful of a strange call.
And this is the type of call that gets remembered. Ones most people disagree with and this creates talking points for people. Today they should throw out a topic like who do you want to see as the next GM? It's no effort filler for the show that engages people to listen and call. So simple yet it seems they couldn't be bothered. Another good topic what should have been the punishment if any for the trade debacle. What do you think about the NHL promoting gambling and then punishing their players for partaking? 1 or 2 segments a week and you've just engaged directly with the fans. Caller of the day gets a large Gabriel's pizza.

True to form…..the day after the GM was fired, TSN 1200 morning show opens up with the usual (non sports) jibber jabber, about parking spots and whatever….. they should not be surprised when handed pink slips in the near future

Don’t blame the station, they always take calls but no one bothers.

Lloyd used to take texts on the lunch show. Same 10 people, same "takes" as Lloyd. If anyone tried to take an opposite view he would get all butthurt and huffy.

Mannnnnn hate how they tip toe around how Pierre Dorion the whole time he was in charge, asking him softball questions , always deflecting from criticism of him while he was in charge and now when he's gone they're able to somewhat critize him on the radio...

Thet never really speak truth to power ...

Tip toe around how Dorion was not well liked by most players that left the organization...

Tip toe around how Dorion was mis-cast in the GM role he was placed in

Let’s be real. We’re talking about a mentally unstable person in Dorion. Yeah that’s what I believe. They guy is a bit nuts. Doesn’t process things properly and ends up being very socially awkward. He was not balanced enough to take any kind of criticism.

It's crazy how ** ONLY NOW these little Dorion negative nuggets are coming out ***

1200 says ** "We've know for a while in the background it was a 1 man show , Dorion didn't listen to his staff pro scouts " ..... yet the hosts 1200 never mentioned any of this while Dorion was in power ...

Hey, whoa, I'm not sure that's a fair take. Dorion was a prideful manager who didn't like being questioned, and is certainly on the socially awkward end of things. But mentally unstable feels like a bridge too far IMO.

I think that's harsh. He was out of his depth to begin with, had a meddling micromanaging and probably abusive owner, was still out of his depth when given free reign, and was never the guy to be put in front of a camera (socially awkward, social anxiety, chronic foot-in-mouth, whatever). He never had the aptitude or characteristics to succeed as GM (IMHO). Mentally unstable? No idea, but I doubt it. I agree he had the appearance that he did not handle criticism well.

I guess it’s all relative. I’m not saying he needs to be committed or anything but you know…for the role of gm he didn’t have it.

My own manager is like that: incompetent, bad speaker, prone to outbursts, but still I wouldn't call him mentally unstable.

And does he screw everything up with huge mistakes and gather everyone around to share what a great day it was? And lash out at anyone who disagrees with him? Does he act like a child in front of everyone? Make fantastical predictions and analyses? I could go on and on.

I’m just saying based on what I’ve seen and heard I think he’s RELATIVELY unstable. People will have different definitions and criteria.

I mean what would he have to do as gm for you to call him mentally unstable?
Would you say melnyk was MU?

It’s two edged sword, when you’re the only local Sports Radio in, and also hold the radio broadcast rights to the local NHL franchise…. Criticising the hand that feeds you, is hard choice to make.

Exactly. This is why a regular podcast with informed hosts and/or guests is a nice option.
Touch on the issues without any fear of reprisal!

So...if the station is taking callers on occasion now, does that mean that crazy old Irish dude might be on again? One that was always angry and halfway unhinged?

-pre and post game shows are good.
-occasionally AJ is a good listen for a while.
-Morning show is wrecked.

-Most importantly, keep the radio off when Dean Brown comes on
