100% the team will be worse next year..

#maximumpain

Rebuilds are not linear in growth, also we are by consensus ahead of where we should be this year (most had the Flyers pegged as a lottery team, that was with Hart/Ersson as the tandem). I wouldn't be surprised if they took a step back next year as long as they continue to offload guys like Laughton from the roster and move forward with more youth or skill...Michkov won't be able to do it alone, so Briere has another 2 season's to get a semi-decent roster going.

Exactly ! I still believe Torts will move to front office and end of this season. New coach will be brought in like you said with 2 to 3 year period of getting to finals. We as a team are in way better position than last year.

it seems more and more evident to me that a big reason why Torts was hired was to be a sideshow and attract attention to the Flyers. Friedman mentioned it last week, but Hilferty, Jones, and co absolutely have made it a mission to be talked about again. It really doesn’t matter the context. They are just intent at being top of mind again even if the on ice product is as mediocre as it’s been.

Maybe I am forgetting details about the hiring of Torts, wasn't it an outside consulting firm that recommended him? At the end-of-the-day I guess it depends on what parameters were fed to the firm as to what they were looking for in a coach I guess.

Having worked in appealing for folks in both workplace injuries and seen the internal workings of HR when they hire out for assessments, I have zero faith in objectivity from a “third party” consulting firm that was bought and paid for by the organization.

To me it is more plausible that organization A had a favoured candidate and third party firm B was hired to buttress that position to feign due diligence (for appearances).

If Torts is "promoted" or removed from the organization, who should the Flyers hire as their next coach?
Should? I can't give you a single name, but someone who has absolutely no history of working with or under anyone in any of the previous five iterations of the Flyer front office would be a start.

Edit: OK, yes, if Brind'Amour shakes free, I will drive to Raleigh to kidnap pick him up myself.

Will? Almost certainly Brad Shaw. Rocky, Brooby, and Lappy as outside shots.

Rocky might be the only coach the Flyers have WORSE than Torts. Seriously, nothing about him is a good thing. That's saying something. Lappy has yet to actually show any kind of AHL success to have an actual NHL job.

Pre-emptively creating excuses for Torts next season. Nice.

Brindamour if Carolina does not want not re-sign him

I can't imagine Brindy wanting to work for an organization that has Torts in a management role.

An outside firm that also represents John Tortorella.

I hope he's still lifting weights. Roster discussions will end with light sparring. Losing a gam will be 10 rounds of bare knuckle boxing.

There’s so much smoke floating in the air about Tortorella leaving the bench after this year that there has to be a fire there somewhere. Notice that there hasn’t been any denial by the guys in the FO. We don’t know what else he’s pulled behind closed doors but jacking around Briere’s protege, SC, could well have been the last straw. This year’s exit interviews with the players could be stunners. There’s a story here.

Possibly Sullivan if he gets canned in Pittsburgh.

Always the coach. Last year it was the players. Torts has them playing better than last year, and they are fun to watch. Can not say that about last year. Who you going to bring in this time as a savior? Please, They have trouble scoring skill goals, on the PP and the goaltending is bad. What savior is fixing that? I will say that all Phantom coaches should be fired. Anybody called up has to learn the Torts system. That should already be done down there. I get the Rocky hate, but Lappy is worse.

Literally every single thing that comes out of this man's mouth is bullshit.

Yes, we know you haven't been doing a good enough job. It is well and good and positive that he at least says so.

Also this is at least 1 more time that he's watched tape than AV did. If we hire a 3rd coach who acts like knowing nothing about players or prospects going into his first season is some sage move I'll eat a tire.

They were fun to watch until he went too far with his antics and the team quit on him.
