Vomit. Bellinger at the reported term and average he's looking for would be awful.

If Toronto wants Ohtani I think they have to offer him a Fred Vanvleet type of high AVV 40-50M short term deal (2 years) so he can enter free agency again at 30 like Matthews and cash in for one more big contract in his prime. I think something like that would be very attractive to him and would give us two years to sell him on the city and organization.

I def think that's part of the offer, Just like with the Clemens deal.

I'd take Bellinger all day everyday at the 21 Mil AAV but 12 years is not even a conversation starter.

It's hard to put into perspective how monumental it would be to this franchise if we landed him. We would vault right into the top 5 spending large market teams and we would probably sellout tickets even if we doubled the prices lol
I get some of that. There are huge off field implications of getting a guy like this.
But on the field we would be paying a really high price for a guy who’s value comes from being a 2 way player and we don’t even know for sure if he will be able to do that going forward.
He is probably the best bat available but the second best bat would cost a lot less and we wouldn’t be paying him to pitch which we aren’t sure how well he will be able to do again.

That said I certainly wouldn’t be the least bit upset if we did get him

His bat last year was elite af. Basically Judgesque in his 62HR season

I don’t disagree. He is a great hitter. But for 50M+ he needs to get back to being a great pitcher too.
I know TJ has a high success rate these days but it #2 for him. And if we have to give him an opt out before we could even see the benefits of that it’s kinda pointless.

It’s still all pretty exciting though

If we land him I would argue Kikuchi might be the best FA we ever signed since it helped us land Ohtani lol
I was thinking the other day that the way Kikuchi's tenure has gone might work in the Jays' favour more than if things had gone well from day one. Rather than the standard talk about how great the city/organization/fans are, he can tell him how he had the worst year of his career and his teammates had his back every step of the way and the organization never gave up on him and lead to the best season of his career.

Put aside his MVP numbers for a second.

You get a chance to see the modern day Babe Ruth+ in your ballpark any time you want to drop by. That in itself is priceless.

I hope I am wrong but if I was him would you look at this Jays team as legit contenders? Dodgers may not have won but will be a powerhouse forever as they can essentially attract anyone they almost want. i would be shocked

Fair enough. But Ohtani could be considered a "Tell your grandkids" type of player. No addition in Toronto sports history would come close to this imo.
Sure and that would be nice but in the end I want to see a championship. I dont care much for individual performances.

I’m old enough to remember the previous 2 but I’d like to see one as an adult. Because in the end I’d rather be talking about something like Carter walking off the Phillies then the time I saw a guy pitch and hit.

Why not both.
