Orelvis 3-3 today with a HR and 5 RBI's

AVG up to .272 with a .857 OPS

Very encouraging season from him.
People are going to hate this comp but it's meant as a compliment. His offensive profile could be something like peak Tony Batista (lots of power, low average, lots of strikeouts, some walks) with better defense. Both shorter left side infielders with elite batspeed and power.

Torn UCL for Ohtani. That sucks. Has already had 1 Tommy John looks like he is headed for another.
Probably going to cost him some money this winter too

Just throwing it out there but the Jays love targeting guys with torn UCLs… he wouldn’t be an immediate need so let him heal and maybe get some innings (or OF defence) later in the year. Lot of money clearing after this year and there's some decisions to be made regarding arb players and upper minor prospects these next couple of years. Jays could retool on the fly.

Ever since Bo's rehab stint I've been seeing Orelvis getting more reps at 2B. I wonder if they were impressed by his transition there and are open to him playing there next year? Same goes for Barger who's been getting a lot more time at RF. Could be auditioning them for trades but it's interesting because of the obvious future hole at 3B with Chapman's likely departure.

I've compared him before to Khris Davis, except with higher defensive value. Same sort of big power, decent OBP, with a low average and lots of Ks. Like Batista, Davis was a shorter guy with elite power.

Interesting that you say that as I was thinking the other day that might ultimately be where he winds up with that cannon arm (like Jose did). Not sure what the team will do but they do value versatility. If Barger can credibly move between 3B, SS, and RF that's pretty valuable.

I was thinking Miguel Sano. Low average, great power and a question mark on defense.

Michael Dominguez with another good start in AA: 5.2ip 2h 1er 2bb 9so.

I vaguely remember when he was kind of an interesting prospect a few years back as a late round pick, before he fell out of the conversation following a brutal 2022.

Gotta keep an eye on him again after this season. 8-2 with a 3.69era 78ip 46h 56bb 90so between A+/AA. He's gonna have to dial back the walks a lot, but the low hit count and high strikeout rate suggest there's good bat-missing ability there. If I recall the old reports, he throws 90-92 with some ride, can run it up to 95, nasty slider and a solid changeup with some drop.

Guys play everywhere in the minors just because. Not that they can play MLB games at the position but to have experience there just in case.
Barger isn't an OF, but as a utility guy he could play an inning or 2 there in a crutch.
BUT
More important IMO is the lack of usage of Davis Schneider.
I think the last game he started was Saturday and let me check...hit the game winning HR.

Guy is a spark plug. Jays W/L record with him in the lineup is excellent.
Team can't hit and we have a guy hitting .367, .472, .700 and we can't find a spot to play him. HMMMMM

First part is not necessarily true. If it’s a prospect of the calibre of Orelvis or Barger you’re going to want to establish a position early and have them accustomed to playing defence there everyday. If they’re looking to increase versatility to fit them into the lineup at other positions that only furthers my point that they’re looking at introducing them to different positions for future use. Both guys have cannons for an arm though so it would make less sense to have them at 2B and more to continue playing them at 3B/RF.

And yes, it confuses me as to why they aren’t giving Schneider a shot. Does he whiff? Sure. But he features sneaky power and a great eye at the plate.

The beauty if having 3 AL West teams in the mix is that they all will be playing each other so Jays can easily pass one of those teams IF they play well.

I still think Texas is the team to catch, especially since the Jays have a 4-game series left against them

Seattle's schedule is butter soft for the next two weeks and Houston's isn't that much harder the rest of the way. KC and OAK have a ton of games left vs the WC/AL West teams

KC: SEA x3, BOS x3, TOR x3, HOU x6
OAK: SEA x6, TOR x3, HOU x3, TEX x3

Jays can't afford to drop (m)any games against these shitty teams.

Starts tonight against Cleveland. I know their pitching is really good, but there is still no excuse NOT to sweep them. Then Washington, I know they have been hot since the all-star break but you gotta be able to beat them too. By the way, Jays have allowed the least amount of runs in the AL. So Atkins has done a really good job at improving run prevention, but the offence has been hurting. Please guys, all we need is for you to get hot for a couple of months.

In the next 15 games, jays need to go at least 10-5

It starts tonight is such bs. It started 4 f***ing months ago. That exact attitude is why this shit team is sitting outside a playoff spot. All goes back to… it’s early….. relax….. lots of season left. That’s a loser’s mentality
