As a fair weathered fan I get a feel that past 12 hours or so US media have been turning on Ohtani a bit. But I think that is only due to the rumours that the Blue Jays have a greater chance of signing him,

I don't know if Soto is enough to turn the Yankees around. That's one old-ass team and Judge running around in CF won't be good for his durability. And they lost Severino to free agency - an front-end guy and even ace if he can stay healthy, not to mention more pitching depth in this trade. Off course they may not be done.

Well maybe it's official.. to a divisional rival hurts, especially if we don't get Ohtani or Bellinger. At least we can hope Soto prices himself out of New York after a failed experiment.
Pricing himself out of New York sounds like an oxymoron.

Imagine a player being too rich even for the Yankees' blood. (Yes, I know Jr. is nothing like daddy)

I mean can they give Judge, Stanton, Cole and Soto maybe 140-150 million a year... yes. I will admit to not knowing how the luxury taxes and the soft cap in baseball work completely but that's wild. Rodon also, that's alot of empty baseball field. I guess if anyone historically will do it. It's them.

Severino wasn't a loss by any means. He was garbage this year and pitched < 210 total innings since the start of 2019. If there was any hope for a turnaround, it wasn't gonna be with the Yanks

I am glad that at least they traded away King so we don't have to watch him own the Jays multiple times again.

I'm a fan of Severino, when healthy he can be awesome. But you're right, maybe a change of scenery helps.

Well, Candelario is gone. He was one of my fallback option hopefuls. I really don't know what we end up doing if we miss on Ohtani. Maybe sign Yamamoto and trade pitching for a bat. Kepler or Lee could work in LF if we don't want to give Bellinger 8+ years.

If Ohtani doesn’t sign, I bet our fallback option is Chapman and say Soler/Hoskins/Teo/Gurriel.

Or Bellinger and Urshela

Interesting that the Reds landed Candelario. Have to think they'll trade away an infielder or two. India seems like the odd man out (not buying reports from two weeks ago about having no interest in trading him). Maybe CES for some pitching

SD had Tatis, Machado, and Bogaerts on top of Soto and missed the playoffs so anything can happen.

15M over 3 years for Candelario is a pretty solid deal for Cinci imo.
Yeah, that's retty reasonable considering what he provided the last few years and what Chapman is likely to get. I would have been ok with that as part of a "spread the money around" strategy.

I'd rather Hicks over Candalerio and Hader over Chapman. And it wouldn’t take away from getting a bat.

Hader/Hicks could be a bigger upgrade on our 8th best reliever (Richards) then Candalerio/Chapman would be over Barger/Martinez at 3B. One of these guys could pop.

Yankees suppose to be in the running for Yamamoto though. If they get Soto puts them in driving seat on him.

They get both for what Ohtani wants. Around 60 million a year

According to our Japanese media, Ohtani-san is leaning toward the Dodgers.
Dodgers have made it to post-seasons 11 consecutive years. For him it's very attractive, he doesnt care about money. He purely wants to win the world series.

Not sure how determinative this will be but some interesting points.

1) Ohtani loves hitting at Roger's Centre (feels comfortable there as it feels and looks similar to his home stadium in Japan).
2) Big workout and training buff so likely to be impressed by Dunedin facilities.
3) Appreciates controlled environment for weather which stadium offers.

Looked at the stats and for his career, he's hitting:

.375/.479/.800 with 11hr in 58 games on turf.
.326/.466/.674 with 3hr in 13 games at Rogers Centre.

I hope and think he goes to the Dodgers. At 60 million and Angels never won with both him and Trout. I think it be a mistake.

But Jays put in a very interesting pitch to him. No pun intended. Lol

Be good for future stars to sign here. Everybody knows Jays going hard to win.

L.A just doesn't have the same depth Toronto has. Bad comparison.

We ain't going to have depth neither add his 60 million. For 10 years. He turns 30 in July.

All you getting is the bat. No glove and he may never pitch again. Too much money for me
