He doesn't even lead the team in strikeouts. Thanks for dropping by Shaner
LMAO.
Belt has 102k in 238 AB
Chapman has 119K 379 AB

Thanks for making yourself look like a fool.

If belt had 379Ab he would be near 200 ks

Belt would have 162 strikeouts if he had 379 ab still quite far from 200 but that's a lot way too much imo. Good reflief pitchers are very often strikeouts machine and are very good at "strikeouting" guys like Belt and Chapman.

Scherzer says the Mets are retooling for the 2025 or 2026 season and not next season.

“I talked to Billy,” Scherzer told The Athletic. “I was like, ‘OK, are we reloading for 2024?’ He goes, ‘No, we’re not. Basically our vision now is for 2025-2026, ‘25 at the earliest, more like ‘26. We’re going to be making trades around that.’

“I was like, ‘So the team is not going to be pursuing free agents this offseason or assemble a team that can compete for a World Series next year?’ He said, ‘No, we’re not going to be signing the upper-echelon guys. We’re going to be on the smaller deals within free agency. ‘24 is now looking to be more of a kind of transitory year.’”

Eppler, according to Scherzer, went on to say the Mets were open to trading not only players who would become free agents after 2023 but also after ‘24. That group included three-time Cy Young winner Justin Verlander (who was traded to the Astros on Tuesday), three-time All-Star first baseman Pete Alonso, left-hander José Quintana and lefty reliever Brooks Raley.
Although, it cost them a lot of money the Mets did at least get some high end prospects at the deadline. Interesting they put next years free agents to be out there as available. Looks like they want a culture change. Alonso would be a good RH bat for us lol. Think they now realize you just can't buy a WS you need to foundation first

Complete guess but he's spent his entire professional career on the East Coast and probably has no interest in moving his family, he has two kids, across the country.
Very possible. California does have a very high tax rate as well but the sun year round would be hard to turn down. Well and winning a lot of games lol

Detroit sucks because a player used his no trade clause?
I'm sure he's referencing the Tigers not being a very good baseball team and also Detroit is not the greatest city out there even if he was talking about that. Either way his response is on point and somehow you still couldn't put that two piece puzzle together.

They’ve already made moves, as recent as today.

And I believe they’ll make at least one more. Try to relax, we should know within an hour.

We're 100% still getting a right-handed bat.
Or because the Bo injury is minor, just use De Jong at 2B and Merrifield at LF vs lefties. That's probably just as good as Merrifield at 2B and someone like Pham at LF in terms of overall value, even if it's a bit more defensive value then offensive. Not against Pham though if it's cheap.

they need a boost

In the last 48 hours they've traded for a possibly elite high-end flamethrowing reliever and a defensive ace middle infielder with good platoon splits vs LHP this season and some pop in his bat. I'm not really sure what else you're expecting other than maybe another OF-capable bench bat because this team was never going to go out and make a massive splashy add or anything like that.

speaking of, the de Jong trade is a tidy piece of business if you consider that the cash the Cards sent along might be there to defray the cost of buying out his two option years for 2024-25. Or the Jays could decide to keep him for next season and see what they can get for their other IF bench guys like Espinal and Biggio and defray the cost of retaining him if they think that they can get past de Jong's trash 2021 and 2022 seasons.

Regardless it's an interesting bit of potentiality for the low low cost of a guy nobody's ever heard of who seems to have little to no tangible future beyond "maybe a faceless bullpen arm" and if nothing else is solid Bo insurance for the rest of this year.

This is a really quiet day overall.

I knew it was going to be a slower than usual deadline but this is a little ridiculous. Kind of crazy to say that considering both Scherzer and Verlander have been traded, though.
