The game against the Kings shows that the Habs' are lacking elite talent.

Montreal actually has more scoring chances, but LA got better scoring chances.

That's not an adequately justified take in my opinion. If all Chicago does is win the lottery twice then they don't actually deserve much, and they won't achieve much either. The other moves will matter too and will calibrate what they "deserve".
Getting Bedard alone puts them way ahead of us in their rebuild.

What I like about our current approach is that we aren't falling back into a Guy Boucher iron-dome shell (which is tactically a solid approach when the talent deficit is so large) to try and win games in December...

The players are being asked to keep playing "our" game & trust the process.

It probably costs us a few points in the short run, but as the young core matures and Hughes keeps incrementally upgrading the roster, the payoff will be there.

It'll be interesting to see if we do see a tactical shift late in the season of we're still hanging around a WC spot (unlikely as that may be)... Will the allure of sneaking into the POs early entice a more tactical approach?

Would love to get a glimpse into thos coaching/hockeyops room discussions

we need this oilers - wild game to go into ot. oilers have won 7 of their last 10 so the wild getting 2 pts would be cool. f***ing pens are worrying me, lost again. Jackets move up to 4th OA. That bottom 5 is going to be real tough to catch.

Recently we've been beating the bad teams, and losing to the good teams.

Hopefully we play well tonight, but that trend starts to reverse.

So tired of hearing how Buffalo is about to become a contender every ******* year before the season starts, exciting up-and-coming young team blah blah blah. They've been trash for over a decade and it won't change anytime soon, pathetic franchise from top to bottom yet some hockey nerds can't help but have a hard-on every time they think about them.

Anyway, thanks for nothing you useless scrubs. Mediocre Preds and geriatric washed up Pens next, keep em' useless wins coming!

Hope they lose tomorrow and go 0-55 for the rest of the season lol

I’ll only accept goals/points from Caufield and Slaf or i’m gonna be pissed everytime.

Ya....
I know some people here thought/hoped for top 5 pick but I’ve been predicting 8-12 since Dach went down so I’m not too stressed this year, just accepting a later pick at this point.

Too many horse crap teams combined with high morale in our group to tank hard enough.

So on one hand you're bashing a team that's been tanking the last decade and bringing them nowhere, while wanting another team to do the same thing. Makes sense.

10 straight top ten picks, 2 firsts and 2 seconds and the tank gang is wishing for their team to do exactly that. Amazing indeed.

Not a shrink but something tells me they are not really hoping for losses. Kind of a defense mechanism. (Not so) deep down they enjoy wins like all of us.

7 of 9 worst teams are out West so the good kids should go there next draft. Enjoy the wins and the 10-15th pick.

What do you expect fans to do? If the Habs had a specific trajectory we could track, then the commentary would be a bit more steady but so far it's literally been 0.500 hockey. Up and down, ups and downs. A six game winning streak would put us in the driver's seat for a playoff spot. Who could've expected that after Dach went down? It is what it is.

I expect fans to be happy playing close to .500 and not to the level of the bad West teams. Missing the playoffs sure and its not because of Dach and Newhook being out. .610 and .561 were last teams in the po last 2 seasons.
Dead last in goals diff in eastern conf is a concern.

Yeah, what a shit team. I thought we were terrible at trying to go for pretty passes, but Buffalo is just as bad or worse. They just love to throw the puck around and to top it off, love passing to the other team. I was stunned despite what I saw, they still managed almost 50 shots on goal.

The Habs are ranked 27th in GF/gp and 26th in GA/gp. This is not a 0.500 team, it's a team that's had its (rather bad) goaltenders steal points and inflate the pt total with OT pts. 32nd in regulation wins, 23rd in pt%, 27th in SF/gp, and 30th in SA/gp.

This is not a 0.500 team.

5th fewest goals scored in the league and 6th most allowed and we aren't even bottom 10. This team has been all goaltending and they don't play a full 60 minutes.
If we were better than our record, we could feel some pride but we're substantially worse than our record. Hopefully this upcoming span of games clears up our status. Either we suddenly perform better or we get results more in line with our performances so far. They say for Slafkovsky that the points will come just as long as he keeps playing like he is, well the reverse is true for the Habs: the Ls will come if they keep playing as they have been.

One disappointing factor in all this is that our young players, on aggregate, have not improved sufficiently. Caufield, Guhle, etc haven't established themselves as anything more than future top players. Still works-in-progress.

A regulation loss is good. Hopefully we start losing more 1 goal games because it theoretically means we played as best we could without winning and we get some stat padding.

I was hoping Suzuki would take that next step but he hasn't. The goal remains landing a #1C and I'm oddly pessimistic about Dach. If I were the GM, I'd be worried about his status as a band aid boy. That and he hasn't even proven over a large sample that he's a 1st liner let alone a #1C even if the odds are good.

Worst part is, Montreal clearly needs to add in the offseason because the current youth movement on the team isn't good enough and doesn't have the support it needs. I might be a Hughes cheerleader, but I can certainly recognize that this rebuild is in a precarious position.

This coming trade deadline and the subsequent draft and associated deadlines will be, for me, the final litmus test of the new management.
