I'm wondering if they could find a team that would take Harris with the Jets pick and a 2025 3rd/2nd to move into the 13/15 range. There's a chance someone like Eiserman, Iginla or Catton could just fall there. If not, MBN may be there and he'd be an ultimate add since he's almost pro ready now.
Imagine he would trade that pick. Same as Dach. Probably for a Necas type

I was wondering if Harris and Barron attached to the Jets 1st allow us to move up 3 spots.

So if we did Harris + 20, we get to 17. The 17 + Barron, we get to 13.

But, teams know there's a drop off. So a team would have to cover Harris or Barron to take them to move down.

Fingers & toes crossed for this to happen rather than a trade of Winnipeg's pick.
I am scared that at the end of the regular season we will have let's say the 20th overall but Peg will reach the third.round and we will pick 30th.

It happened last season with Florida

Trade up with the Islanders... I'd givem anyone of our current young Ds (Struble, Harris, Mailloux) + Avs 2nd to jump 10 spots.

We could then draft one of the Ds at #5-8 and any falling forward at #13 (I think Catton, Iginla (unlikely because of Calgary) or Eiserman will be there).

Islanders are my target too. They need LHD over RHD, so Harris, Winnipeg's 1st & Colorado's 2nd & Minnesota's 3rd might actually do it.

I'd take 2 forwards. Man, imagine Lindstrom & Catton. Or, Eiserman could be that 2nd pick. Islanders are ALL in now. Harris is young and they seem pretty happy with Romanov. The fact that almost all our players continue to be successful elsewhere: Lehkonen, Romanov, Monahan, Danault, Kulak means there isn't a bad player looks good on bad team involved.

I'm not sure Lou would go for Harris. He seems more like the Xhekaj/Struble type.

Nah, they're not getting past Dallas or Colorado. Hellebucyk is a good goalie, but he would need to steal a series to get past those 2. I've never seen him do that. He usually gets off to epic regular season starts before fading in final 3rd/playoffs.

If the Islanders offered their 1st straight up for Xhekaj, would you do it? Hard one for me.

Yeah Barron and Harris are the ones that seem most expendable, but the least Lou's type.

I wonder if Xhekaj alone would get the Isles 1st. But I'm not even sure we should do that. For sure I'd sacrifice Struble to get the Isles 1st.

Actually trying to work a deal with Calgary is out they have to know we'd probably be targeting Iginla.
The entire front office would be let go if that ever happened.

Nope. Xhekaj is going to be a top 4 beast. You don't trade guys like him. He's eventually going to be a 30 pt guy too. We absolutely need him for our own future.

We can move ahead with Hutson, Guhle, Xhekaj and maybe Engstrom/Harris for the left side. With Mailloux & Reinbacher on RS, we still have enough physicality & size.

I agree. For sure I wonder if a guy like Eiserman is on the board if it's worth it. But ultimately I don't know enough about Eiserman's potential. Is he a 6 foot version of Caufield?

So Matheson is the odd man out for you?

It's like some people don't see the progress he's made which boggles my mind.
Oohh he took a penalty. :help:

I don't know what I'm going to do to get over this Iginla fixation.
We aren't poised to get him unless we reach which will ruffle plenty of feathers.
Calgary is taking him 10th if he's still on the board.
So we would need to deal for 7th 8th or 9th depending.

Matheson is already 30 & in his prime. Most of our guys haven't even hit they're prime yet. He's just going to age out. He's not going to get any better than he is right now. I'd wait until Hutson officially makes the team. He's Matheson's replacement.

I would look at moving Matheson at 2025 TD before Savard. I could actually see Montreal resigning Savard for the veteran presence. His game is suited to playing bottom pairing behind Reinbacher/Mailloux.

Trading up in a weak draft sounds like a pretty bad idea to me. Maybe they could trade for a 1st in 2025, getting rid of the deadwood picks below round 4 at the same time.

It's not that weak, and we have more assets than we need. We're trading from a position of pick strength & prospect strength (in this case D) to improve a weakness, forward depth.

If I was Hughes I’d try to put something together for Matheson for Necas.

The top ten isn't weak at all.
Any team with two picks in that top ten is coming away with a HAUL.
Not to mention the VARIETY of both Dmen and forwards.
It's team building stuff for sure.
