now I am less stressed, because after last year's draft I'm not sure they would know what to do with a top 5 pick anyways. At least at 7-10 they are probably smart enough to take BPA and not draft by position, one can only hope

Good point.

We draft largely based on talent but also character is HYOOOOGE.

So probably who we normally take at 5 is still there a few picks later anyways.

If Michkov turns out great, we will never hear the end of it...
What I ask is that if Michkov isn't a superstar, I hope I see a lot more crow being eaten than the Slaf haters have shown.
6 teams chose not to take him (only Chicago had an excuse).

While that is factually true the circumstances are very different when you consider who they had available when they were picking...

I just like the drive Leonard has , he was my pick above Michkov for how I would have rebuilt a team. Would have saved a blueline pick for this year

Honestly, probably me too.

You avoid the 'Russian' mystery factor and add a more or less sure thing with some grit and scoring, which as we know in the playoffs is how it's done.

I’m happy with Reinbacher for now. Futur might prove different , but we’re far from being set on RD, and having David talent on our team really helps.

I’m not even against drafting a dman with our 1st this year if he’s bpa. Our prospects on defense has a lot of promise , but nothing is set yet

Ghule Reinbacher (or 2nd pair)
Xhekaj
We have 3 spots left to fill . Hutson , Mailloux and Struble are early favorite.

Although I was on Loenard's bandwagon, I think it's the same reason they drafted Reinbacher, you need that type of D in the PO and they just drafted another type of winger you need in the PO in Slafkovsky.

“It’s completely false to say he’s only defensive”

Forgive me for taking the word of former NHLers over “all accounts”

calling either of them 'former NHLers' is a bit of a reach., you are digging down pretty far in the well for validity sir. lol

Vs Hab fandom hot takes - such as:

- “Slaf-bustsky”
- Logan “elite” Cooley
- ”Shane Wright was the pick to make”

Fair, but I think Leonard is more of a sure thing than Reinbacher.

Reinbacher because of the position he plays would be better overall if he does pan out as Montreal hopes though.

What are you talking about? Pouliot played like 200 games in the NHL. If he played 1 game he is a former NHLer. And it is irrelevant. They are comparing Reinbacher to players in the league they are in now.

I'd love to graph this boards overall consensus from drafts, I bet we have pretty solid pick. I never liked Wright much, he seemed super flakey but was on team Cooley for sure.

Remember where Scherbak, Juulsen, McCarron, Poehling et. Sat on our Habs board prospect lists heading into their respective D2 seasons?

Not so sure that high regard on pundit lists are a particularly good reference point for anything but sport talk radio/podcasts.

On ice, I'm not sure anyone in the top 10 except Simashev had a D1 season that suggests they were picked too high or too low... Maybe Dvorsky exceeding expectations in his move to NA ice?
Late first odds of them making it are slim. Why do many cup contenders trade their pick.

Lots of Zadina picks from “consensus” for sure..

Desired results for tonight:

- MTL regulation loss to VAN

- OTT win vs. STL:
OTT win + MTL reg. loss = OTT ties MTL in pts @ 62 with 1 game in hand.
- SEA win vs. VGK: SEA win + MTL reg. loss = SEA moves 8 pts ahead with 1 game in hand.
- BUF win vs. EDM: BUF win + MTL reg. loss = BUF moves 11 pts ahead. MTL with 2 games in hand.

*MTL could end the night in either where they are in 26th place (Bottom-7) or in 27th (Bottom-6) if they lose in regulation and OTT wins. They'd be tied in pts, but OTT have a game in hand, but they also have the advantage on RWs.*

Vancouver should win. I know Demko is out but DeSmith has been solid.

I’m not holding my breath for the other tank games, especially Ottawa. Just shit…

I agree we can't trust Ottawa. But Montreal has a tendency to not go down easy. It's not often they completely stunk the joint or at least not as often as you'd think a team at the bottom of the standings would, which is something I love about them.

I believe the Habs are the team that's lost the most games by 1 goal, which is an encouraging stat considering they have been hit by the injury bug again this year, particularly to Dach and missing 6 weeks of Newhook.

I would refrain from using words like shit for teams like Ottawa and Arizona considering they have 3 more wins than us, (4 and 8! more regularion wins respectively) and twice the better goal differential.

So the 2-8-0 Red Wings move back into a wildcard position.
I'm not sure what that says about our conference but it can't be positive for us tankers I don' think.
