I believe the Habs are the team that's lost the most games by 1 goal, which is an encouraging stat considering they have been hit by the injury bug again this year, particularly to Dach and missing 6 weeks of Newhook.

Habs have also 15 regulation wins and 6 more in OT for a ROW of 21.

Only Chicago (14 RW, 18 ROW) and San Jose (12 RW, 15 ROW) are worse.
Even a team like Anaheim is better in that aspect.

Which is an advantage Montreal has in terms of the tank. That when it comes to the first tie-breaker (RWs), they have less than Arizona, Ottawa, and Columbus if they end up tied in pts.

In ROWs (second tie-breaker), as you mentioned, Chicago and Sharks are worse, and Columbus is tied with Habs with 21 ROWs each.

Lots of Zadina picks from “consensus” for sure..

oh for sure, no question about that. However for the 20% zadina, 70 were Brady and very little wanted KK for example. A few wanted Hughes, but Brady was the popular choice. Last year's draft Reinbacher was way off the charts, I don't know who saw that coming. Would be fun to have tracked the HF Boards picks over time

Not sure about that…. iirc there was significant anti-Brady sentiment. Lots of chatter about him being a meathead & poor offensive output at BU… eerily similar to sentiment about “Slaf-bustsky’s” output in Liiga

Alllllll depends on not necessarily what Hughes 'brings in' this offseason but on what he 'gets rid of' this crucial offseason before I am playoffs confident or not lol

It's gonna be hilarious when we pick like 12th next year and we get a Benson level prospect there because those guys are always available just outside the top 10 and a lot of crying will have been for no reason.

Haha tbh I'm in the same boat as you I'm cheering for wins next season and expecting 12th or 13th

It's nice because we have a lot of draft capital next year too, so it will still be a fun draft, I'm just not gonna cheer for losses, get mad we got points, and with what we've already established plus what we will be adding - I'm not worried about an Ottawa situation here or a repeat of the Bergevin years.

Plus the top end of the draft next year is lacking, so far, a Celebrini level guy.. the 1st spot is wide open, but it looks to be pretty deep with similarly talented guys.

McKenna and Misa drop off a bit? Last I saw they were the guys at 1st next year

McKenna is '26 and he's unreal.

Misa has dropped, teams aren't loving Hagens this year as he hasn't taken the step they thought and Frondell has been the latest riser there but obviously doesn't have a track record yet to rival some of the prospects we've seen in their D-1.

Gonna tell you boys it's been a wild ride but I'm not gonna be a tanker next year - though I don't expect playoffs.

Same here. Even this year, I didn't start the usual "desired results" posts because I felt Habs were playing well enough for longer to start looking at them tanking. And although they're not all that much ahead in terms of points from where they were last year at this point, there is growth and progression you can see if you watch the games. Which is a real positive.

I'm ready to be in no man's land next year even if they miss the playoffs because that would indicate that they have progressed and have taken strides.

So many one goal losses this year...............Dach plus whomever they trade for this year, and hopefully less injuries has us with a significant move in the standings.....................
Better days ahead !!

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I expect us to be in no man's land and sellers at the deadline, but we have some good draft positions in 2025 including the Calgary pick which will be interesting to follow. At this time next year, I'd like to see us winning games and making it interesting in a race for the playoffs.

I think there's a chance we could squeak into the playoffs next year, considering what the wildcard situation looks like this year in the East with Capitals, Isles, and Red Wings duking it out. I don't think those teams are significantly better than what we should be next year.

I had no intention of tanking this season.
Kirby Dach changed all that for me in game two.
Even then we were treading that .500 water for longer than I thought possible.
The post TDL downturn was always inevitable and would be much worse except for our first line heroics.

Me too I will quit the tank next year.

If Kirby Dach come back better than never and stay healthy all the next season, I really think that Habs have a chance to make playoffs. Slaf will be better. Suzuki will be better. Caufield will be better. Guhle will be better. Roy will be better.

This team have a lot of talent already on their roster when Kirby Dach is here.

I've pretty much already quit the tank in terms of wanting us to lose every game, the best case scenario for me is we finish the season playing around .500 but Ottawa and Arizona find a way to do even better and pass us anyways.

Yes, I think the best scenario will be finish bottom 5. (4 aswell, but yeah, passing by 2 teams will be very fine).

I think Habs scouts nailed it in 2022 and 2023 draft (not just with their high pick, but with late pick aswell), this year draft will be important and Habs management kmow that will be the last draft with a top 10 pick. Next year will be more in range top 12++ (battle for a playoff spot with Dach healthy).

To me 5th or even 4th last is much better than 7th last.

Keep hope alive!

And with the 1st, 2nd, or 4th overall pick, the Montreal Canadiens select...

our blueline is going to be the missing link, we can survive with the talent up front. Harris, Struble, MM etc will hurt us in our own end. Arbs, Guhle the future leaders back there, Savard should be moved for whatever we can get he's going to decline fast. Monty is fine in net

Sure which is why I hope teams like Ottawa and Arizona go on a hot streak and pass us. It's just the difference between 5th and 7th isn't worth the current players going on a cold streak or getting injured to end the season. I'd much rather Slafkovsky finish the season at ppg numbers and ending up with the 7th OA then him finishing the season on a cold streak and ending up with the 5th OA pick. Or take Roy, losing him to injury helps the tank but I still would have preferred him to be healthy and produce even if that meant a lower draft position because his continued development is more valuable then 1 draft position rank.
