If people read Staios' quote before the game tonight. He basically said they were going to put the breaks on an accelerated rebuild.

I read tank.

I've seen Ottawa with the upper hand on the Habs in tank territory and we don't stand a chance.
Staios deciding to purge and restart the rebuild would be interesting to say the least. But that means the rumor that Brady T. was for sell at the deadline might not have been some random cogitation resulting from the team playing like shit. Staios probably wants more ammos at the draft.

He didn't say he was purging per se. He's doing an about face on the "rebuild is over" from the last off season.
But given the timing the draft is what is now foremost on their minds.
They won't be pushing to win games and there is no stress on accountability.
What he should be doing is putting his players on notice.

Most of them probably don't give a damn and wish they were almost anywhere else.

The battle for the rest of the season will be between these teams with Habs for finish between 4 or 7 pre-lottery.

Bottom 7 = Top 9 pick lock.
Bottom 6 = Top 8 pick lock.
Bottom 5 = Top 7 pick lock.
Bottom 4 = Top 6 pick lock.

To me, no matter Habs will finish, it's looks like a top 9 lock at this moment. So it's a great news for the future. Habs are going to grab a really really good young player.

I have my top 9-11 for Habs and I really like all 11 players. With some D's and forward's, I'm really fine with a D or F. Habs just need to grab talent. Dickinson, Leshunov, Buium, Parekh and Yakemchuk are very very talented D prospect and they have huge potential at NHL level. Even I really want to see Habs picking a Catton, Iginla, Demidov, Lindstrom, Celebrini (if we are lucky with the lottery), Eiserman type of prospect. I'm confident with Habs scouts and they will select the best they believe for the long-term.

Patrick Roy was the perfect match for them and they chose Jacques Martin.

What a weird choice.
Martin was already there and knew the team. I think they wanted to wait a bit for Roy and get him in the offseason, which would also have underlined the power of negociations they would of had (aka we can hire you when we want to)

They blew it though… It wouldn’t surprise me if Roy is a candidate to the Jack Adams next season. That would/should hurt as a sens fan and management.

Chicago getting Celebrini would be annoying.

Well Pittsburgh suck... I can see Crosby asking for a trade in the summer. Buffalo doing what it do best. Getting a little bit hot at the end of season.
I just hope Pitts don't win the lottery. They are already the luckiest team in the league.

San Jose would be getting their 2025 1st round (unprotected) then from the Karlsson trade.

Chicago is getting another very good player this trade with a top 3 pick at a minimum.

While San Jose is a complete mess. Them getting a top 3 pick this year and TWO top 5 picks next year potentially would accelerate their rebuild.

In 2 years, Chicago and San Jose could very well be ahead of the Habs.

Completely forgot about the first round pick. Pittsburgh is going to regret trading for Karlsson. Granlund is doing great with SJ.
2024 (top 10 protected) or 2025 first round pick for SJ.
