The answer is this:

The Canadiens are not a good team, with little depth, and erratic play by many young players.

They empty the tank the night before to compete and try to win, they have nothing left in the tank in the second game and fare far worse because of it.

They were falling off before the all-star break, had the all-star break, had some admirable performances.. but as the season drags on, they empty the tank to stay in games, the worse it is going to get.

I don't disagree with this, though the erratic play from the youngsters has been more of a plus than the shit play by most vets. I'm also banking on the team eventually trending down for good at a certain point, but I've also expected that for some time.....which goes back to my point that the home/away splits is likely not something that can be diluted down to "effort." The sport's chaotic nature leads to such statistical oddities.

Sens placed McEwen on waivers. No idea who he is. Is he moar bigger? Can he fight?
MSL will fix him.

And when the guy inevitably takes a bad penalty, he’ll roast him in post-game pressers, bench him and eventually scratch him.

Meantime, Xhekaj goes about his business unscathed as the org. will have found a new fall guy. :sarcasm:

A while back we were arguing about back-to-backs record, looks like the info is now available on the NHL website (team stats section).

Habs stats:
.100 for back-to-backs (stats are ouch, also worst in the league with Calgary but they played half the amount of back-to-back as the Habs)
.640 at 1 day between games.
.333 at 2 days between games. (why?)
.700 at 3 days between games.
.500 at 4 days between games. (score a lot more here, get scored a lot more on too!)

Jets, Rangers and Predators won all their back-to-backs. :skeptic:

11-14-3

That's the Habs record on their home ice. One of the 5 worst in the whole league. They are playing above .500 on the road. Can someone explain that to me ? How come they are so unprepared to play in front of their fans ? How come they offer a so lousy effort ?
Habs have been playing under .500 at home since the 2019-2020 season with a tiny positive (2 games) in the Covid season. I personally suspect a big reason for it is media/fan pressure. It's either too much mentally or they are trying to do too much to not disappoint which usually leads to the opposite.

Or they spent too much time at the Marcus, just ask Caufield...:sarcasm:

The trade of Monahan signified a big drop off. I wonder if Hughes will move a big name like Matheson?

A bad record at home is very often a sign of deficient coaching and/or preparation. They are at home, they should have all the time available on the schedule to prepare. There is no travelling, no hotel, plane, and other annoying details to get away from. I think the record away is rather indicative that the team has some pretty bad habits and those get justified on the road, while at home there is a malaise...
But then how are they faring better when they don't get favorable match ups on the road? Doesn't seem like a coaching thing to me.

He will also have to apologize. :D

There are bigger names to move - Allen, Anderson, damn… Gallagher!! Not to mention Dvorak.

that's odd cause I just had 2 posters telling me there's no pressure for the prospects to play at the Bell Center because the fans are so nice there.

Well, Kraken lose. They'll stay ahead of Montreal even if Montreal wins against Anaheim because they hold the tie breakers, but they'll be tied in points if that happens. Seattle plays again tomorrow night. They are @ NYI tomorrow.

Arizona also loses. They're tied in points with Montreal and hold a game in hand. That'll be back to 2 games after Montreal's game tomorrow night. Coyotes have the night off.

Rangers beat the Flames, so go 4 points up on Winnipeg, who have 3 games in hand on NYR.

Minnesota & Vegas are tied at 2 after 1. Wild outshot Vegas 14-6 in the 1st. It would be really great if Wild can even pick up a point.

Could you share a source or study backing up the idea that poor home game performance is solely due to deficient coaching and preparation? Just curious about the evidence behind this claim - inquiring minds want to know

It’s not the sole reason, but your coach definitely plays more of a part in home games with last change.

Unfortunately we're going up against some pretty bad teams.

There is very little preparation and on the road the excuse is we don't have time, so they engage with less pressure than at home.

No because I didn't write solely.

It' about expectations, not interactions. The more bad the teams become, the harder it is to meet up to the fan expectations in the stands. They are a lot more relaxed on the road and tus win more.

As for the media, asking Suzuki and his girlfriend when they are planning to have kids a few days ago at a charity event shows the level they have fallen to.

I am just curious whether this is your opinion or the opinion of others, or whether it's a fact.

Definitively there have been games where the team didn't look and didn't play like they were ready for puck drop, and MSL even admitted as much; but whether this is on MSL/couching staff, vs. coach(es) and players, lack of talent, lack of maturity, or a combination of all these and other factors, I don't know. Probably the latter, I suspect.
