I like the posters example of taking Hedman over Matt Duchene if that's the choice. I still believe in BPA, unless the scouts really can't tell apples from oranges and have the two players equally rated.
Yeah, that's fair. But there's some great offensive talent out there. Eiserman has slipped a bit but he was a solid 2nd coming into this season and some thought he'd challenge for number one. He's pure offense but defense can be taught. Do we want to pass up on a guy like that? I know there are a lot here who don't care for him but damn, you want elite offensive superstar potential? There it is.

And like I said, draft is all over the place. I'm just reading up projections now. One scout has Lindstrom 14th... It's crazy. There are tons of talented forwards here. There doesn't seem to be real consensus on where anyone is going to go.

It's going to an interesting draft.

I would still like to be top 5 after the lottery. But the chips will fall where they will fall. All the young guys are hungry to impress at the NHL level. So we'll still be competing for the final 32 games.

Hopefully, the Jets completely implode like how they did last year after a good start.

There are 32 games left lol. People here were convinced we would go on a tear to become 11th last and give Arizona our 1st for the Dvorak trade, we didn't and ended up dead last. People then were convinced that we would be outside the bottom 10, we didn't and ended up bottom 5. We aren't getting Celebrini/Lindstrom unless we win the lottery and the teams ahead of us will draft dmen. The draft class falls off after Celebrini so the tank is mostly to keep increasing our odds for Celebrini, and it's going to be 0.5-1% odd increase the lower we stand.
Ya I'm being hyperbolic but those are the top 3 forwards and I think all 3 go top 6 and was hoping we'd get one of em.
That bunch of teams we are mixed in with are all pretty stinky, I think 6 is absolute BEST case scenario for us.

Even if we're 7th or 8th. Catton, Eiserman, Helenius... lots of talent.
Yes we will get a good player for sure. I just think that here is when you get into the next tier with the question marks. Catton big enough? Eiserman too 1 dimensional? Helenius have enough offensive upside?
I'll be cool to take any of them (starting to lean Iggy) but the reality is this will likely be our last top 10 for a while and we NEED another star up front.

Hard to be unhappy with a win that was almost entirely off the backs of the remaining non-injured core forwards. I don't expect the first line to score 3-4+ goals a night so plummeting back down to 6th should be one multi-game losing streak away. Hopefully Ottawa does something with their 3 games in hand.

The only sure thing in this draft is Cellebrini. Everyone else has some kind of question or they just recently moved up or down. But honestly, it looks like a pretty good draft from what I can see.

I love this post, truth from top to bottom. The only way to do this rebuild the right way is to be patient and let pieces develop and expire properly but there are so many people who think they are entitled to be entertained.

That's the problem with real life too, the ingrained sense of entitlement in society, but I digress. People need to realize that there is a very well thought out framework for success in place and we are starting to get somewhere with it. Now isn't the time to suddenly try to make the playoffs because some fans don't have anything else to do but hate on everything cause they have nothing else going on.

I applaud HuGo for having the wherewithal to build properly while dealing with an extremely impatient and entitled group of fans, I'm sure it's not easy. It isn't even easy to read it.
I absolutely agree with you! We need to see this rebuild through. It would be a mistake to cut it short at this point. I feel management is aiming at the 25-26 season to be battle for the playoffs. Next year should be another step forward and that's why I feel bottoming out this year is so important for the rebuild. Hopefully draft the game breaker the habs need in June.

Washington is a terrible team that lost Backstrom and Kuznetsov, they are just as weak down the middle as us.. not surprising we won that one with Monty playing and the team responding to the Monahan trade.

Should lose the two afternoon games and start to plummet.. but if they are going to win games, and they will still win some games, last night is perfect.. the guys you want to star, were stars.

Only tanking game is Minnesota @ Chicago. This is Wild's game in hand on Montreal. If they win, they move within a point of the Habs.

If NYR's beat TB today, they jump Winnipeg, who will fall to pick #25. Jets will have 3 games in hand though.

Habs will draft 8-10th. A Catton or Ignila type. A second line winger, 25 goal scorer. They had their shot at star forward last draft. Decided to pass on it for surer thing but less skilled.
The Habs are in 9th right now but three teams (Coyotes, Wild, and Senators) behind them have games in hand. I suspect Newhook's return won't completely compensate for Monahan's departure and HuGo will make a few TDL trades that will further weaken the team. My gut tells me the Habs will finish between 5th and 7th.

(N.B. seeing as I suck with predictions, the Habs will finish in the last wildcard spot and make it all the way to the SC finals.)

I predict Gallagher coming back will have a bigger negative impact on the line-up than any trade until the TDL.

i understand the sentiment but something tells me you're not a big Jeopardy fan
And not a champion of spelling, lol
I knew something wasn't right when I wrote it but I was too lazy to check.

From my home, without the stress of being on tv I can have some answers right at Jeopardi. I like Mayim Bialik quite a bit and I watched her interview with Bill Maher.
