The New York Rangers are a perfectly built team this year

They actually don’t look good. Not now anyway.

They have only been playing with 5D and 11F the last 3 games, and all those games were within 4 days.

Are they playing great? No but they aren’t playing bad either.

I think the last number of games emphasize (and this is true for most teams) that their defensive depth isn’t nearly what their offensive depth is.

Sure, the Bruins are a great team this year, but the gaps they were opening up in the Rangers’ own zone surprised me. In the playoffs, it’s pretty much inevitable you’re losing a defenseman or two at one time or another during a long run. If they don’t come out of the East, I see that being what sinks them.

This is opposite my team, the Bruins, where I think what would bring them down is the secondary scoring drying up either due to injury or simply because the players get ground down. There are 9 or 10 defenseman in the Bruins’ system I trust can handle a playoff load, at least for a while. On the other hand, are guys like Coyle, Frederic, Foligno, Nosek, Hall going to produce with reliability? Think the Rangers have the more sure fire depth there.

I think rangers can clean things up, but yea… they’ve looked bad in their own zone for the past 10 games or so.

They need Miller and Lindgren pretty badly. Any injuries to their top 4 Dmen will expose them.

The team was lucky for the past few years with health. I hope it continues after Lindgren gets back

Maybe they shouldn’t be spitting in opposing teams faces so they could role with 6D

What about going 1-3-1 in the 5 games prior?

Bringing in two big names in Tarasenko and Kane is so strange. We will see if it works out but I remain skeptical.

This thread has aged so poorly. Now they are basically an 8 year olds NHL 23 team.
Yeah you're right. They should change it up. Give us Kakko and Schneider. We'll give you some heavy grit in Myers. He plays real playoff hockey.

The lines they're currently running are the worst possible permutation of the nine players they could run. Just absolute nonsense.

Maybe when there's actually a day to practice Gallant will f***ing wake up and stop trotting out lines from 2016. That'll be a huge improvement off the bat.

I simply do not see any weaknesses in the Rangers roster this season, they are solid in every department. In my mind they are the best team in the East and only the Avs match them.

Vezina winning goalie in Shestyorkin

Norris winning defender in Fox

Elite 1C in Zibanejad

Elite 1W in Panarin

Great 2C in Trocheck

50 goal scorer in Kreider

Big physical presence in Blais, Reeves, Trouba

Elite young players in Lafreniere, Kakko, Kravtsov

Deadly power play and solid penalty kill

Great coaching by Gallant

At the trade deadline a lot of experts said they are lacking sandpaper and didn't need more skill. Doesn't sound perfect.

Reminds me of when Ottawa was a deep top scoring team and needed toughness but traded for Peter bondra which did nothing for the team.

We'll see if those experts were right or wrong.

They're wrong.

The Rangers are 14th in goals. They're 7th in hits.

Before the trades, Vesey and Goodrow played in the top 6 every game.

The Rangers are a slow, lumbering, physical, dump-and-chuck team with Panarin freelancing on his own little island to give them some semblance of a threat. Watching them play could put Cocaine Bear to sleep. They absolutely 100% needed more skill.

"The Rangers need sandpaper" is just a meme that exists since the Flyers beat us up in the 1970's.
