This is a GM trying to save his job. If he hires Montgomery and it takes him a couple of years to figure it out Fletch is gone. Torts comes in makes the team respectable it lets Fletch to stay for a few more years.

Let's have a hypothetical here. Flyers do hire Monti, what would be the sentiments on this board:
Flyers connection?
alcoholic?
have never won anything?
ruined our chance at the first overall?

Game passed him by? What because you said so? If you want to watch Schmucks like Zegras play go watch Anaheim. If I wanted to watch spoiled brats with no respect for the game showboat I would turn on soccer.
Schmuck? Kid is really good, and you want to shit on him? You deserve how bad this team is, alot of older fans can't admit the game has changed and we need to change with it, that's the problem, a bunch of old people stuck in the past and you're clearly one of them

I mean the agenda is visible from a mile away, just labeling and calling people names. Must be productive discussion with that guy

Since when the objective of the hockey tournament is obtaining higher draft picks?
Also, since when having higher draft picks (unless they are Crosby, Malkin, and Fleury in a row) guarantees success?
What they might guarantee is picking in 10- 20 range in a few years, which you can actually can start next year.

Losing breeds only losing. Torts may not be a winner we dream of, but, perhaps, he is a disciplinarian that we need.
The "objective of the hockey tournament" is to win. This team is so far away from winning that it's hard to express with words. Bringing in a an old curmudgeon win-now coach to go with a rebuilding-level roster just shows how clueless they are and that they are still 'going for it' in time honored Flyers fashion. They should hire a young coach who is knowingly signing on for a lengthy rebuild and wants to grow with a young team. However, they are incompetent and clueless as always. Torts plus their latest roster patch job (to be announced later) is good enough to get them from 5th from the bottom to about 10th place. That's not winning. It is consistent for them though. The most consistently mediocre team in sports. The Flyers are like Groundhog's Day in sport team form.

Angry vet who worked his ass off for Torts then another coach to earn his spot and then due to injury got his spot handed to someone else. Two players who by the way didn't blossom under Torts one of which begged to get out.
Please. If it were the Flyers, fans would have been kicking & screaming if the coach gave more ice time at center to an aging, declining vet in Dubinsky over Dubois & Wennberg.

Torts did exactly what most posters here want — play the kids.

But now you’re trying to twist playing the kids over an aging vet as a negative, because you want to take an anti-Torts position on everything.

And even Dubinsky admits he didn’t keep himself in top physical condition, which Torts demands, so I fail to see where he “worked his ass off” to keep his lineup spot vs. two hot prospects.

I hate everything this organization has turned into with a fiery passion and want every decision maker gone because I'm a fan. Being complicit with management and satisfied with a goal of mediocrity doesn't satisfy my objectives.
I accept your point of view. But, perhaps, because I speak broken English fluently, it does not fit my fan definition.
We will respectfully disagree.
To be fair- I tuned Flyers out for the lifeless hockey that they had played for a few years, and I will have tuned them out if they continue to do so, but i do not wish failure on them. I look forward to every season and to watching the game I love.

Ok. Again, I accept your opinion, but disagree with it.

I may bi in minority here, but that's not the reason I watch sports.
So it sounds like you would like to watch your favorite team win? Perhaps win championships? Because those are indeed my objectives. Does this roster convey those objectives? Does this management group convey those objectives?

No and no, never and never. So scrap them both. Obviously the only way that happens is with a lot of losses, which will a) enable high draft selections and b) new leadership. Both absolutely key to getting back to winning.

They will be worse in 2022-23 than 2021-22. No Giroux lol

4 years is an odd number to me. It will take him at least a full year to flush out what he doesn't want. Then time to incorporate his style. Seems like the first 2 years for lack of a better word are already wasted.

You can expect the usual uptick in the first year and maybe some overachieving. Though at the end of the day that gets them were? A finish in the 10-15 ranges at best? They talent is just lacking big time. I am sure many agree and many disagree.

You have a chance to get a potential franchise player in the 2023 draft. Yet this organization will do everything in their power to avoid giving themselves the best chance to acquire one of those players.

Are any other teams looking to blatantly tank next season (excluding Arizona)? I am drawing a blank.
