I think he realizes it exactly. I never wanted him as GM and I certainly don't think he's done a good job, but he's been in full Clarke placation mode since last summer.
If he had any respect for himself in that case, he’d resign. Unless he thinks he’s being made president, which does nothing because he’s a hockey man.

Gotta love an internet poster telling Cam Atkinson that he knows nothing about good hockey coaching. LMAO.

He’s been a President since Holmgren resigned. Both he and Camillo have the title.

Charlie’s Athletic article today about the hiring is terrific.

And I think his description of the hiring process is probably accurate.

What Beef said. They’re striving to stay in the mushy middle. Striving for mediocrity. High picks are not a guarantee of future success. However, it is the simplest and most direct way to acquire high-end talent. That’s what they need. They need quite a bit of it to become a contender. They’d need to make good free agent signings and trades too. However, they have an idiot in charge. Soooo…building primarily through the draft it is (or should be at least). Making the playoffs to be 1st RD playoff fodder for good teams is what they’re looking to do. Half the teams in the league make the playoffs. That doesn’t consistute a successful season. I want them to build to become a contender. It’s going to take time.
But how does this team develop the young players they currently have if the team is tanking the next 2-3 years? How are players like Farabee,York, Frost, Hart, Prov, TK, Sanheim, etc ever supposed to reach their potential if theyre stuck playing for a bad team with no structure?

Or are we pretending all of our platers have peaked despite being 25 and under?

Id rather be Nashville and have a strong foundation and system that can develop players and be in the mix every year than be Buffalo who endlessly tanks.

We're neither.

Please. If it were the Flyers, fans would have been kicking & screaming if the coach gave more ice time at center to an aging, declining vet in Dubinsky over Dubois & Wennberg.

Torts did exactly what most posters here want — play the kids.

But now you’re trying to twist playing the kids over an aging vet as a negative, because you want to take an anti-Torts position on everything.

And even Dubinsky admits he didn’t keep himself in top physical condition, which Torts demands, so I fail to see where he “worked his ass off” to keep his lineup spot vs. two hot prospects.
I notice you don't address the fact the PLD and Wennberg flopped seriously as time went on as Torts was there. So you bench the guy who worked from a 4th liner up the roster for two kids you ended up losing. Great coaching. No wonder Dubinsky is pissed at Torts. He did what Torts asked and got stabbed when he had to have wrist surgery.

Torts doesn't give a single shit about anyone else but himself. When the team struggles, he throws them under the bus and publicly embarrasses them to take the heat off of himself. He's AV on steroids.

Am I correct in that Vigneault was fired because Scott stepped in and did it? At the PC announcing the firing, Fletcher didn't seem to be on board with the move. Now it has been reported that Torts was not the guy that Fletcher wanted for the job. If he's being over ridden on the hiring and firing of HCs, he has no power in the organization and should ask for a buy out.
At this point and time, it is critical that the coach and GM be on the same page on everything especially the analysis of the roster. There are going to be some changes made with it. Don't want to make the wrong moves with who goes and who stays.
Not so long ago the Flyers young guys were highly thought of. They haven't met expectations. Maybe they aren't that good but maybe it was development and usage that held some of them back. Perhaps Torts can get more out of them than AV did. Heck AV never even saw some of them play on tape or in front of him. As we saw with Cates and Attard when they came up and settled in, there is some talent there with them and others.

So you think an out-of-shape 31-year-old Dubinsky who scored 6 goals & 10 assists in 62 games deserved more ice time than:

Rookie 19 yr old 3rd overall pick Pierre Dubois, who scored 20 goals & 28 assists in 82 games,

and

Sophomore 22 yr old 14th overall pick Wennberg who had 35 points in 66 games.

Think about the position you are taking, man.

Would be great if someone who has the ability to Tweet would call Cam out for being a moron that has no idea what a good coach is because he's never had one.
LOL - sorry but wtf? I get the constant griping, but is this what this entitled board is now? A professional hockey player, spending his life in the sport, would not know what a good coach is over a fan who is nowhere near either of them - on a personal, or professional level?

New lows, I'm afraid.

The majority of the board were going to complain about the coach regardless of whom they hired.

Hell, you've got fans who constantly grouse about the Flyers playing vets over kids now taking Brandon Dubinsky's side, a veteran who whined that Torts gave two high drafts picks ice time over him without "earning" it.

Even if they hired a young unproven coach for his first NHL gig, which is what many seemed to want, they would have spent their time complaining about how the Flyers were setting him up to fail and that he had no chance to succeed from the outset. Sort of like how they say Makar and Heiskanen would have been ruined by the Flyers so it doesn't matter that they passed on them.
Spare us your persecution fetish. God forbid anyone say anything negative about the benevolent dictatorship that is the Philadelphia Flyers.

I will ask this, if push comes to shove, who do you think he would rather play, Tippett or Allison? Because Allison would be the correct choice regardless of coach. Tippett should stay in the AHL.

I'm sure Tortorella will get results but they will be short-lived. I'm not sure he will leave much of a legacy either besides more championship futility because of the absolute cronarchy in the FO...

At least he will most likely still be around for the 50th anniversary cup victory to remind us of that milestone of futility...

TK avg ice time next season over or under 12?
he'll be traded

I think there's a high chance that Torts will quit on the morons in charge before the team quits on him.

If he suddenly goes strangely stupid, that could be him trying to get fired.
if Torts calls out Clarke and the boys, this signing could be a bless in disguise.

need something positive to hope for

I am amazed how a vocal minority is using this "short term mediocrity + no long term solution" hiring solely and exclusively as a mean to get at other posters, while talking about maturity.
