Confirmed with Link: The new coach of the Philadelphia Flyers is John Tortorella

It surprises me how many people cry out in horror at the notion of Tortorella, yet want Trotz.

They’re both defense-first coaches, like the majority of highly successful coaches.

I’d think if you can’t stand Torts, you wouldn’t want Trotz, either.

I still dont get why people think the Flyers coaching gig is so undesirable.

Salary + great location + organization that has a great reputation for treating its employees well (in fact they treat them too well which is what drives most of us nuts).

I mean, they treat people who are shitty at their jobs like theyre irreplacable kings. If you actually succeed here, youre a god...if you dont, youll still be well taken care of.

Too many people are looking at it through the eyes of a disgruntled fan. We all think winning is all that matters to these people but its a job to them, not a hobby. Winning is probably 4th or 5th priority on the list.

The Flyers aren’t a destination anymore and they haven’t been for a long time. They treat “Flyers” well and those that are in the circle of cronyism. If you’re not one of those you’re easily dispatched.

Would you decide to work for a company that was run by a bunch of morons knowing that their ineptitude would reflect directly upon you and effect your future endeavors based off of those perceptions?

The top of the line coaches? They select where they’re going and it’s likely not going to be here. The run of the mill guys? Sure they’ll go to the highest bidder just to get a job.

Where is the outcry for Trotz though?

Hell, I am a Trotz fan and I don't want him. We don't have the talent, so he will have the team play excruciating hockey to try and survive. The time to hire him was in 2014 or 2018. Before Fletcher drained the team down to a nub. I don't think that's an approach the team needs.

Even AV catches some shrapnel these days from people coming out of that organization. I don’t think he’s on their Christmas card list anymore. :laugh:

There are a lot of posters who have wanted Trotz since the day he was let go. I’m not coming close to saying it’s everybody. The Hurricanes fans who post here don’t like Trotz, for example. But there’s been plenty of support, & many who want Trotz recoil at Tortorella .

so you would pass on everything for next 20 to 30 years of losing for what the next mcdavid to just fall on our doorstep?

From my point of view a good portion of the people that may say they want Trotz are saying so because they see the writing on the wall that it’s going to be Trotz or Tortorella and given the choice between those two their preference is Trotz.

It’s not that they prefer Trotz over all available options. Some may but it’s far from a majority of this board.

I personally don’t want either. I’m tired of this line of thinking in this organization.

It is also true that Trotz is blatantly better than Tortorella. They aren't equal at all, and pretending they are is false.
