The best thing about Trots is he's not afraid to play young players, he'll hold them accountable, but just like his veterans:
2016-17 (TOI):
F: Wennberg (22) 2nd, Saad (24) 5th, Jenner (23) 6th, Karlsson (24) 8th, Anderson (22) 11th, Sedlak (23) 12th
[Bjorkstrand (21), 6th for 21 games]
D: Jones (22) 1st, Werenski (19) 4th, Murray (23) 5th, Nutivaara (22) 6th
2017-18:
F: Wennberg (23) 4th, Anderson (23) 5th, Dubois (19) 6th, Jenner (24) 7th, Bjorkstrand (22) 9th, Milano (21) 11th, Sedlak (24) 12th
D: Jones (23) 1st, Werenski (20) 2nd, Nuitivaara (23) 6th

CBJ did not bring in a lot of over 30 scrubs, when an over-30 player was added he usually played a major role, and Torts had no problem playing young player big minutes in the playoffs.
Much to my suprise, Torts actually looks like he'd be a good fit for a rebuilding team, he's not obsessed with "veteranitis."

I remember the Athletic (?) did a player poll, and Tortorella was the only coach to show up on both "Coaches I'd Hate to Play For" and "Coaches I'd Like to Play For," although heavily shifted to the former -- he's polarizing, so of course you're going to get your Atkinson types stumping for him, but he can irritate the wrong players too.

Can we stop with this revisionist history that Columbus did not have a Hart-caliber Panarin? His name conveniently gets dropped. 2016-17 looks more like the Flyers template, where Cam Atkinson is your highest scorer at 62 points, with a roster of middle 6 forwards. Oh, hey, Bob won a Vezina that year.....what a coincidence.

I don't think Torts is a total moron as a hockey mind, despite his shtick; he's probably better than Vigneault because he's at least had a glimmer of self-accountability in recent years. But I cannot imagine why accountability and experience are the end all, be all for this franchise. It's borderline insanity after they just did that with Vigneault. Idea: how about someone with tactical savvy this time? At best with Torts, you're getting a retrograde coach who has adapted somewhat at 5v5, is historically horrible at PP managing, and has zero chance of providing any innovating. There's no upside. It's a lazy, shallow, mediocre choice for a team specializing in such.

Good teams have to find a balance. I like physical play and sandpaper too, every team needs a few of those guys but you have to have your Gagnes and Brieres too. TK is the closest thing we have to that now, maybe Cam but the production hasn't been on par.
Peak gagne was obviously his 40 goal season but I think the last few years of his career and his cup win were a result of his time under Hitchcock.
Briere and leino were a great fit though Thier time together was limited. But he spent most of his time here as an outlier being the only guy who could make Ricky tack passes and in a system where playing behind the net left his d out to dry.
Torts or trotz may run these guys through the grinder but at least we'll have an idea of what kind of team we have if Fletcher has the courage to run with the horses we have

Why on Earth would Trotz choose the Flyers over the Jets? He's from Manitoba and that's a much better situation over there.

Depends on whether Cheveldayoff wants to give him that path to the FO after he's done coaching. I can't imagine the Flyers really being in the running if we weren't making assurances to that effect.

Chevy time as GM is coming to an end. He will be promoted up so it is the best landing spot for Trotz imo.

That moose is my guy. I am going to ride one some day.
One time my friend prank called a number in my youth (we were like 14 give me a break here) and the lady answered and my friend said in like a slow, low voice

"There's a moose in my yarrrrrrd..."

And the lady chuckled and asked "well howdya plan on gettin eem out?!"

And my friend said "Moose trap. And they both laughed and then said goodbye after she said good luck.

That's it. That's the story.

Presuming Chevy hasn't quietly promised one of his AGMs that role when he does get Homered up to President. I wouldn't be surprised if Trotz is intending to go straight to GM, rather than to a subordinate position, and I could see Fletcher passing over Brière for Trotz if that's what it takes to bring in the biggest name.

Here's another angle on Torts, given his age, you'd think that one thing they'd want him to do is hire top young assistants who could be groomed to replace him, and he might be amenable:

As a coach, Tortorella is known for working well with his staff. Mike Sullivan, who was Tortorella's assistant in Tampa, New York and Vancouver, later went on to win back-to-back Stanley Cups with the Penguins and is considered one of the NHL's top head coaches to this day, considers Tortorella to be the finest mentor he's worked with in his own career.

That would be a healthy change from AV!

Could be closer to where he wants to be, staying on the east coast. I’m sure he would get payed. Not sure the Canadian lock down rules these days.

By when? Fletcher being fired would be amazing.
