Just a reminder that while Lambert was hired from within Barry Trotz was fired a week ago and they already hired his replacement. French Alan was fired at the beginning of December and crickets.

Interesting that they're moving so slow on the HC hire - makes me wonder if they're waiting for the playoffs to end, because they want to interview some assistants - HCs of playoff teams that get out of the 1st rd are rarely fired or walk.

I don't get the hate for Hayes, other than personal aesthetics, but I don't date athletes, so I couldn't give a shit how pretty they are - he's played as well (when healthy) as Voracek and JVR the last three years - and he's played through severe pain to try and help his short-handed team, which is something Philly fans usually admire (say compared to an overpaid player who bails on his team).

Sure he's overpaid, but so are JVR and Voracek, and most players with pre-COVID contracts.
But when healthy (i.e. Jan/Feb last season, and when he returned in March this season) he's been a solid 2C.

109g 27-35 62 - prorated 82g 20-26 46 at ES. 6-6 pp, 4-1 SH, prorate 28-31 59 total.

He's average defensively, but so is JVR at best, and Voracek has been below average defensively at 5x5 the last two years.
He's more of a PP2 guy where JVR and Voracek are solid PP1 guys (though Voracek is no longer a threat to score goals)
But he's also a solid PK guy when healthy.
And Hayes is a center who can play wing, whereas JVR is limited to LW and Voracek to RW.

Which is not to say a healthy Hayes is the guy to build around, but he's not a liability either. No more than the other two.

last 3 years:
Voracek 201g 21-90 111 ES, 6-44 50 PP - prorated 9-37 46 at ES, 2-18 20 on the PP. 11-55 66 total
JVR 204g 37-54 101 ES, 23-7 30 PP - prorated 15-22 37 at ES, 9-3 12 PP. 24-25 47 total.

Hayes is hated because he's a) over paid, b) been shoved in the Flyers fans faces as the new face of the club, c) brings his friends along with him. This organization has done everything from top to bottom to showcase how (not)awesome that he is.

The friends thing is crap, Hayes played for AV in NY, so those "friends" are simply other players who played for AV in NY.
You have to be smoking something to think Hayes has that kind of pull.

JVR and Voracek were just as overpaid, that was COVID and a flat cap, all those contracts were given with the expectation the Cap would continue to rise 4-5% a year, so the back of the contracts would look reasonable.

Yes, aesthetically he's a poor choice as the face of the Flyers, but you have to be pretty silly to think anyone in the organization thinks he's the key player - it's just that with Couts injured, G on the way out, Provorov in a funk, he got it by default.

Replacing the fired head coach with the assistant coach is what happened in December with Yeo.

Lou is just going the cheap route instead of waiting to see if more big name coaches like DeBoer become available.

Yeah this is just as predicted. They're going to be slow and deliberative and wind up having to settle for some loser after the good options get hired and play it up like it was the plan all along.

Keith Yandle winding up on the flyers has something to do with Hayes. I doubt he would have signed here if Hayes wasn't here.

Just another coincidence with the Flyers organization. Nothing to see here.

P.S. Cevin has the second highest cap hit on the team after Couturier. Someone in this organization thinks he's a key player.

I mean that kind of stuff happens across the board in all sports. Guys want to play with their friends. Guys on the team I am sure pitch players to the GMs/coaches and vice versa as I am sure players tell their agents they have teams they want to play for. The Yandle signing sucked. No question. I didn't think it was going to be as disastrous as it was, but I was way off.

But I don't think that Hayes is getting all this special treatment or having pull by demanding players come here or being promoted because of some ulterior motive. Yandle probably wanted to play with Hayes, Hayes (and AV) know Yandle and made it happen. Not everything is a big conspiracy to ruin the organization. Bad decisions, yes. Some kind of sinister infiltration into the team by an undeserving star player taking over...not so much. He's the face of the franchise because he is a recognizable name. This team sucks. Promoting an over the hill JVR or a mediocre defenseman isn't a good marketing move. Giroux they knew was getting traded, Couturier was hurt, Farabee isn't a big enough name to promote, so they have to promote someone and Hart being pretty much the only name besides Hayes that people would recognize they probably decided not to highlight a goalie who has not been consistently good throughout his career.

The roster is getting a lot younger, they just discarded G (34), Brassard (34), Braun (34) at the TDL. Jones (32), Yandle (35), Connauton (31), Thopson (37) are FAs and won't be back. JVR (32) is likely to be traded, and I think Atkinson (32) may be on the block.

That leaves Couts (30) next season, Hayes (30), Ellis (32), Risto (28), Laughton (28) as the oldest players on the roster, as Seeler (29) and Brown (30) are likely to be in LHV if they're on the 50 man contract list.

Age is not an issue, the lack of young stars is, as Fletcher pointed out. The only way to add to that group is to draft high, or trade value for value (Provorov for a young center, for example). Fletcher knows that, so his statement was an implicit admission that they need to reload for a few seasons to garner those young talents.

Every year you proclaim they're getting younger and then they never do. They go the opposite way, actually.

Even if they don't bring back all those veterans, they'll sign new shit old veterans. They believe "shit old veteran" is a vital role.

If Hextall is given the leash to fire Sullivan, I think he'd do it because he's an idiot. I'd want Sully in a half-second. Looking around the NHL, that's the only currently-employed coach I really want.

Winnipeg is one of the teams I figured he would be interested in. Decent amount to work with and he's from Manitoba.
That roster seems like a good fit for him too. Wouldn't be surprised if he's their coach by the end of the week.
