My eldest brother Greg, who is no longer with us, was the one who opened the door to Neil.

You probably know, that Neil offered powderfinger to Lynyrd Skynyrd as a peace offering, after the Alabama / Sweet home Alabama tiff (sic).

They rejected it. But I think everything got smoothed out in the end, at least as far as I know. You can also see Neil wearing a Lynyrd Skynyrd t-shirt, or perhaps it's the other way around? Like Ronnie has a neo shirt on? I'm not clear on this.

By the way Gary Rossington just died, which I'm sure everyone knows. about.

As for "Cortez the Killer," one of my absolute favorite Shakey songs, from one of my top five if not top three favorite meal albums, Zuma. Both were favorites of my brother Greg's as well,

I always thought the offer of Powderfinger was tongue in cheek, especially given the "Big John's been drinking since the river took Emmylou" line, which seemed to me a mocking of the hillbilly south. The rest of the song, not so much, but that line always struck me as such. Not as severe as Zevon's Play It All Night Long, but still a little cutting.

I know I've asked you this before, but who's the guy in your avatar? And don't say yourself. 💩

It's Jeff "Monoman" Connolly, lead singer and keyboardist of The Lyres. And though it's not me, he was my doppelganger back in the day. I used to get mistaken for him all the time, to the point where people would think I just didn't want to be bothered so I claimed I wasn't him.

I never really checked out the Lyers. What were one or two of their best, or most well known tunes? I'll look them up. Thank you.

Watched it last night. I forgot that he did the Star Wars Jawas thing for this tour. Strange. But the music was great. Just a guy and an acoustic, then three guys and a drummer, jamming away.
Yah the acoustic set was what got me....but formed a totally different appreciation for the dirty grunge music that came later. Glad you enjoyed! Raleigh!!!!! so lucky!

Mick Jones actually helped write this song. He's not credited, but he contributed. Rumor was this was a prelude to a Clash reunion, but alas, it wasn't to be. I forget who said it, but no truer words were ever spoken about The Clash - "We need them more now than we needed them then."
